The Indianapolis Tennis Championships Prediction League (Eighth in Series)...!!

We are in @ for the 8th in the series, this being the 2009 Indianapolis Tennis Championships Prediction League

CHANGE of Points Scoring Rules(MUST READ)
FOR EVERY MATCH you predict the winner and the score they win by in sets. Predict the correct winner but the wrong score in sets, you'll now get THREE POINTS. However, if you also nail the score line in sets, (ie, Nadal beats Murray 2 set to love) you’ll get FIVE POINTS.

Each predictor is also able to pick a winner and runner up of the respective tournament (they have approximately up to a day before the FIRST ROUND MATCH in which to do this) Come the conclusion of the tournament – ten points will be given to each predictor that predicts BOTH the correct winner and runner up and five points for the one or the other.

If you grasp a sudden urge to change one or more predictions that you may already have posted, please make a new post, so I am aware of the time it was posted and can validate that the prediction was made before the respective match / matches. (Editing posts makes matters complicated)

Player Retirement Rules
1. If there is a walkover, the match is void.
2. If there is a retirement, and you picked the person that doesn't retire, you get 3 points. No matter the sets or score.
3. If there is a lucky loser situation (like what happened with Safin this tourny), and you picked the person the lucky loser replaced and the lucky loser wins, you get points accordingly (3 for correct winner, 5 for correct winner and set). If you picked the opponent and they win, you get points accordingly.

So, I have no problem doing Indy as long as we do Washington as well. But if we're doing 1 warm-up to Canada and Cincy, it would seem that Washington would be the better option.

I am for the Washington idea, Indy is too small. Also Washington has other big name players like Gublis, Youzhny, Schuettler, Berydch, Clement...

Small maybe but this tournament has the hottest chicks in the area show up all week long....:):)

What about the International German Open ... that starts on the 20th... the Washington Open is on the 2nd of August... far from now...

Have a quick say on it everyone .. shall make a decision due to people's call in 2 days time.

Yeah, but that's on clay. I don't see the point of picking matches on clay in preparation for the 2 MS and USO.

IMO, we should do one warm-up HC tourney, the 2 MS events, and the USO. I feel the warm up should be Washington, as the field this yr is deeper there then in Indy. But if you want to do both Indy and DC, I have no prob. I just don't think we should leave out Washington in exchange for Indy, as the field there isn't nearly as deep. Plus, if we did DC, we would have games for 3 consecutive weeks, gain interest, more people involved, etc. But if you want to do all 4 (Indy, DC, Can, and Cincy) I have no prob.

Overall Points from previous tournaments should be deleted and only titles records keptOtherwise new players will never have a chance to catch up.

I'm in. For real this time. I was busy around Wimbledon time. I'm committing to this one. After winning Queens, I think it was important for me to prove that I wasn't a best of 3 set king, and that I could cut it at the slams. I didn't prove anything. I'm the Andy Murray of the prediction league!

Lol.

I missed the first two tournaments and I am 3rd in the overall standings.

Also I would prefer only doing 1 tournament before. Having too many 250/500 tournaments make it seem less important to do well at Masters as they both have the same amount of points. Of course instead of using the current point system which doesn't really seperate people who do well to people who don't we could use the ATP points system perhaps?

Agree with DD. Best would be to keep the titles records and delete the points. Then whoever has more titles would be on top.

To the best of my knowledge you have yet to play in one tournament so your opinion is obviously very bias. Keep it as it is I got over missing the first two.

I think if you do that only those that win titles are rewarded. There has to be some benefit to participating as well. I don't think the overall point score is that important really. Each individual tourny is fun.
-----------

I will probably have internet access during the Indy and DC tournies, but I am going to be out of town for some of it and just rather busy in general. I might not even participate in either. We'll see...

I would agree with this although at the end of the season and hopefully next season more importance will be placed on the overall standings.

Fair point.

I've taken everyone's views in to detailed consideration and have decided to go along with Indianapolis and Washington...

...however, Indianapolis's points earnings will be less as it is a 250 ATP event as opposed to a 500 or 1000 masters event...

Whats the field going to be like? I dont see Simon or Del Po on the entry lists...

As I listed earlier, it looks like the only top 50 players will be Roddick, Ferrero, Querrey, Tursunov, Karlovic, Sela, and Kunitsyn, with Gulbis, Baghdatis, Ginepri, Isner, and Dent also in the field.

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showpost.php?p=3664017&postcount=11

I think most of the European players are playing Hamburg next wk, as that is a 500 level event and Indy is only 250. That would explain the weak field.

Most will come over for the 500 event in Washington, though.

Simon's playing in Stuttgart this week, so that explains his abscense. And JMDP will be playing in DC, from the looks of it.

So with JMDP not playing in Stuttgart or LA that means he will loose 850 more points... wow

Looks like Roddick is a huge favourite then. Only guys i can see with the firepower to take him down are Karlovic and Querrey. Gulbis is a non-factor as far as im concerned. Ferrero or Tursanov dont have the big shot to take him out and no oen else is really good enough to go far

No, that's just pistol instating himself as the personal defender of Sampras' legacy. So I guess anyone that says Pete isn't GOAT is an idiot.

Here's the post, in case you think I made it up.

I am gonna be shoving Sampras down people's throats til they choke. In my absence certain idiots became absent minded. That's gonna cease right away.

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showpost.php?p=3642370&postcount=3

This is after he got back from his 2 week "vacation" and Fed had won the FO and strenghtened his claim to GOATness over Pete.
