The last time Djokovic made a slam loss competitive was Wim 23

AO 24 - crushed by Sinner
RG 24 - walkover
Wim 24 - crushed by Alcaraz
USO 24 - lost easily to Popyrin in 4 sets (was down 2 sets to love)
AO 25 - retired after 1 set
RG 25 - beaten handily by Sinner
Wim 25 - crushed by Sinner

(of course Djokovic won USO 23 also)

Goes to show how pathetic the 89-99 born generations were and of course djoko's decline.

Because he made a career out of crushing bums like Tsitsipas, Anderson, Berretinni, Kyrgios, Ruud etc. He preyed on extremely weak competition prior to Alcaraz and Sinner. Had Alcaraz and Sinner arrived 5 years earlier like they should have he would have far less slams.

well, 1/3rd of it or like 8 slams and 2 YECs were vultured for sure ....

if decent competiton tennis, djokovic would be at 16/17 slams and 5 YECs. (fed at 19 and nadal probably 17 also)

Old.

“Just after what happened in Australia as well, it seems like you've been unfortunate at big moments this season. Does that make it even harder to take?"

Novak: “I don’t think it’s bad fortune. It’s just age. The wear and tear of the body. As much as I’m taking care of it, the reality hits me right now the last year and a half like never before to be honest. It’s tough for me to accept that because I feel like when I’m fresh and fit I can still play very good tennis. I’ve proven that this year. Playing best of 5 particularly this year has been a real struggle for me physically. The longer the tournament goes the worse the condition gets. I reached the semis of every slam this year. I have to play Sinner or Alcaraz. These guys are fit, young, sharp. I feel like I’m going into the match with the tank half empty. It’s not possible to win the match like that. It is what it is. It’s one of those things you have to accept and embrace in some way. Deal with reality the way it is and try to make the most out of it."

So what, Federer won just 1 weak slam in his career? You cannot be serious.

only 1 vultured slam (AO 18)

vultured = not high enough level + weak competition

no one gives a shi* that djokovic competition in AO 19 or nadal RG 20 or fed at Wim 17 were weak as they were playing at high enough level (as far as vulturing goes)

djokovic has like 8 vultured slams and nadal 4-5.

If old Djokovic could still win Slams without Alcaraz and Sinner around, then men's tennis is in a generational drought. The field is too weak, too predictable, and not evolving fast enough. Djokovic's dominance is as much a sign of his incredible longevity as it is a failure of the sport to produce worthy champions.

Doesn't mean they would have won all these slams with stronger competition. (in some cases, they would have surely lost)

There is a difference between talking about which slams were vultured, and claiming that even with other competition, Federer still definitely wins all of his slams except AO 2018.

yeah, but if we keep increasing competition for fed, then we have to do the same for nadal and djokovic also.
Sure fed's would reduce. But so would nadal and djokovic - even more than just the vultured ones.

That's why I only removed the vultured slams

Djoker’s reactions have been getting slower and slower throughout the tournament, which reflects in his poor footwork.

It’s hard to watch him fail to reach the optimal contact point—even on a routine ball—especially when I still remember how he used to move ...

That's some bias. So Novak vultured 8 slams and Nadal vultured 5. However, Fed only vultured one?
What about all those slams Fed won when Nadal and Novak were cubs and NEVER made it to the finals?

If Sinner and Alcaraz hadn't came along and been responsible for most of his slam defeats over the last couple of years, Djokovic would probably be on 30+ majors right now because even as a 38-year old, he's still making the latter stages of slams, and I still don't see the likes of Fritz, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Ruud or Draper being good enough to beat him at one.

Those two are a welcome addition to the sport by the way. Djokovic dominating as an aging 38-year old would have been tragic for Tennis.

Keep telling the jokes. If Roger hadn't had such a weak field between 03 and 06 he would be several slams short.

Likewise if Novak had peaked 3 yrs earlier then Rafa would be missing a few slams.

I wouldn't say that 6-4 6-4 2-6 6-4 is an easy match, but you could also argue that this one wasn't competitive because it was in R3.

Yes but don't tell Djokovic fans though. They will never accept it. Some even had the nerve to downplay Federer further by mocking Federer's competition. Yes Djokovic fans mocking ANYONE elses competition other than Alcarez or Sinner themselves, is something else.

Bias from abmk?! Heaven forbid lol.

maybe you both could do with reading my next comment. and you are on my ignore @TennisFan3 for a good reason.

Lol Roger has incredibly weak opposition between 03 and 07, his only great opponent was Rafa and at that time even he wasn't a seriousc threat on grass , until Wimbledon 2007.

well more so because he was down 2 sets to love.

not an easy task to come back from that.

It's not easy. I just don't think "uncompetitive" is the right word. I think Popyrin had to compete hard to get over the line.

I mean if it were (say) 5-7 6-7 6-2 6-7, wouldn't you call it competitive and be unsurprised to hear that a few years later the loser, who was 19 at the time, would beat the winner, who was 26 at the time, six straight times without losing a set? ;)

no, federer was so great that he made his competition look weak. only 2006 was on the weaker side, the other years were not weak at all.

Still light years better than a time Casper Ruud made 3 slam finals in 13 months. That does not need to be explained to anyone with a brain.
Ah, another “agree with me or you are brain less” comment

I guess this is all you have left when your fav loses the slam race and you thought that would never happen

Analysis from the same guy that told us Novak would never catch up to Fed in slams

Thank god posting here is free!

Humanity could go extinct and there would still somehow be threads on here dedicated to the (alleged) weak era and vulturing slams.

The Big Three will live on forever through these discussions. In a weird way, it warms my heart.

Considering my favorite players of all time all have between 6-8 slams, they never had a slam race won to lose, LOL! I am not and never was a mindless glory hunter obsessed with stats and numbers like yourself.

Zygote Alcaraz, or like @Sport would phrase it, "virtually a teenager" Alcaraz even won lol. Dude barely played on grass in his career and won against Djokovic who won 3 Slams in that year.
