You told me what? That the market goes both up and down? Stop the presses. It's a great buying opportunity. The next crop of multimillionaires will be those with enough available cash and the cojones to get into real estate, yes, real estate.

Is this even a real screen name? Honestly, I have a great deal of pity for you. Living your life in such a state of fear, panic, and paranoia. Did the sun rise today? Pretty sure it did. Just remember, you don't lose any money in the stock market until you sell. I'm a stockholder and I'm still alive and I even went shopping today, and got an iced tea from Starbucks. It was packed. That's all.

market

I wish and hope you're right... but don't think so. Homes are still over-valued. We still have a few years to settle down to a support level.

I agree at the present time, I'm talking when they are undervalued, which is just up ahead.

Huh? You investing some chump change and then still having enough to shop for some Abercrombie clothes can not be compared to the people who invest in the market to survive.

Oh, and nice fallacy of logic on the Starbucks bit.

That's pretty much all I needed to read to know that you have no business whatsoever buying individual stocks.

Good luck to you. You're gonna need it.

things will not go back up that quickly, so hold on to your cash for now, i'll start a new thread when it is the right time to start slowly getting back in the market

What do you know about my investments and when's the last time you've seen me wear anything from Abercrombie? I don't really understand what your problem is with me, but you seem to follow my every move, spreading rumors, and making blind assumptions. I've asked you personally to stop via e-mail. It doesn't take much to honor that request. It is unnecessary for you to come in here pretending like you know something about my life and insult me. Stop.

The headline two days ago read that 2 trillion in retirement account money has vanished in America so far. There are going to be a lot of people suffering because of this. The nation of Iceland is practically bankrupt. Japan's exchange is plummeting.

Check out the topics in Rants and Raves for a lot more links to articles and analysis.

Canada is already on the down slope. Our bank was number one in the world today but that means nothing. People spoke of that as a sign of hope. The more the states spiral, the more likely it is we will enter into a recession.

As a lot of economists said, the Fed and the Treasury entered unprecedented waters in March by bailing out Bear Stearns. And they went much further in Sep.

As I said in a thread before, the more the government do, the worse and longer it gets. Their actions only made the recession longer, if not deeper.

What's wrong with the short selling? without short selling, market still goes down almost 7% every day.

But then, this crisis came at the election year. Those people in the treasury don't wanna see them doing nothing before a great recession. But what they have done probably turned the great recession to a great depression 2.0.

Bernanke really lost his credibility as the Fed chief. The purpose that the Fed board stays on for so long without following the election years is to have a continuous economic policy, but not the Treasury. Now the Treasury i.e. Henry Paulson has so much power. He wants to do something before he steps down with Bush. But the more you do, the worse it gets.

Yup. Our dollar is at 86 cents now. In a two week span it dropped like 12 cents. Banks have collectively lowered interest rates, hope that does something.

anyone in for Wamuq and WB? just wondering. Maybe we can bail out Wamu ourselves and short all JPM:twisted:

That is what I've been saying too. 2009 should be a good time to buy some real estate or even just some land and sit on it. They aren't making any more land so it will hold it's value and the taxes won't be so high on it, especially if you have a large amount that you can parcel out.

Here where I live the real estate market hasn't really gone down as much as other areas and the inventory is fairly low, I think people here aren't hurt much by the foreclosures and are waiting on moving till it bounces back a bit. I keep telling my parents they need to buy a vacation home next year before the market bounces back in a couple years.

What the?

Sorry for confusing Abercrombie and Hollister, don't get you panties in a bunch. I often see posters pull the ol' "stop stalking me online!" BS to make it appear that I'm obsessed with your every post. I don't follow you around, or have spread rumors. I'm on here for a couple minutes everyday and I don't take this forum as seriously as others (you). So when I see BS posted, especially on a topic I know well like this one, I'm not going to pipe down. Sorry

The email you sent me went to my spam email and never got it, until now (I also replied to you DD if you see this). The email really has nothing to do with this, since I didn't even bring up the topic the email was about.

What whole fiasco? Meg, L is our chat host. You've spent time on there getting to know him and engaging in some great conversations, no? Do you honestly think L would stalk you?

I don't think he's stalking me, but he's been really nasty to me ever since someone hacked and altered a lot of my pictures to make them look quite compromising. Instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt, he's decided to add to it. It's obnoxious.

Okay, it sounded from your post like an accusation of stalking. I missed the whole situation apparently so I can't/won't comment on something I have no knowledge of. It just seems unpleasant for two people I thought got along to dispute publicly. Mind you, I dispute others but I haven't spent any time with them like we have on the chat.

I remember when someone posted pictures of me on this forum without my consent. It was shocking and unquestionably not welcome so I understand the feeling of violation.

Maybe you can work it out off the forum as opposed to potentially saying something regrettable. Mind you, I don't know how well you know each other and it's really none of my business.

I tried to with an email essentially begging him to stop bringing it up, but he continued. I'm spent. I just want him to know how easy it is to photo shop something to look like something else. I didn't choose for that to happen, and I feel it's unfair to be nasty to me for something I had no control over.

Asia stocks trampled, Japan crashes on panic

Asian stocks plunged on Friday, with Japan's Nikkei down 24 percent in the week, while the U.S. dollar rose to a 14-month high against a group of major currencies, on panic that global efforts so far have failed to stop financial chaos from spreading.

"It's impossible to predict the bottom, and technical analysis is meaningless as panic and fear overwhelm the markets," said Jang Huh, managing director at Prudential Asset Management in Seoul.

The Nikkei share average finished down 9.6 percent, bringing the week's losses to 24 percent, more than twice what it lost during the week of the 1987 stocks market crash.

I'm just happy I've managed to marginalise myself from all of this to an extent, work designing investment management software now and teaching people market/security courses for asset managers. Quit the credit brokerage where I was working 3m ago, was already looking grim then. They are looking at shutting now. That from a $2-3BN throughput a day business a year ago. Ouch.

Saw the lads for some of the black stuff last night, you can guess who bought the first round.

I went short financials two years ago in my pension fund and closed out 6 weeks ago so I'm relatively happy. Guess I made the right call though I can't say I made it for all the right reasons and saw the scale of what was coming. Just got spooked by how the CDS trades were going that I was broking at the time. Some of these guys still don't know today what their true exposure is.

I'm going to resist the temptation to write a book on this but a lot of what is going on now is systemic, it's stopped being a credit problem. Interesting to watch however, particularly the Icelandic situation. The governments (US, UK, Ireland and Germany in particular) made a BIG mistake getting involved the way they did, it provoked a series of independent arbitrages that led to some very big money flows that sparked the latest problems.

Ironically I'm teaching a 2hr this morning on CDS hedging limitations...jokes :)

But you bring it up all the time, and you never used to be so nasty to me until that whole fiasco.
I'm not being nasty, I'm just joking around since I think it is really funny. The pictures aren't funny, but your excuse afterward was hilarious. Hacking passwords, editing pictures? Come on now Meg, thats funny.
Mind you, I don't know how well you know each other and it's really none of my business.

Since when has that stopped you before CC? :)

In my book, that's nasty. That's like saying that someone deserved to be exploited because "they were asking for it." Those pictures were STOLEN and photoshopped, and none of that is funny.

I wish and hope you're right... but don't think so. Homes are still over-valued. We still have a few years to settle down to a support level.

All you're talking about is a reboot of the system...
Only for the same thing to happen all over again to future generations... And ruin our planet along the way..
While we live under the ruling thumb of capitalism.
It's like we're in the film "The Matrix" but its rare scarier...
Watch the video link I've posted, people.

hyper watching the video..... Market was freaking amazing on Friday. I'm reminded of one trader who once said I'm worried about a run on the super market. we are all just five meals away from total anarchy.... crazy. Monday should be a barn burner.

wow what a day to be away from the desk. I've called a crash since Jan. My name on this site is registered in March. Not gonna comment anymore.

Best of Luck to all.

I think he's responding to your naive post as if you know nothing about what is going on in this economy. Many people's lives are ruined or will be soon. A guy on my tennis team lost everything including his business and had to move to NY to live with his parents because he couldn't even put a roof over his head. While you are out shopping, there are people losing their homes every day.

This irks me. Not because it's full of outrageous and ill-informed assumptions but because one of those ill-informed assumptions was that I "know nothing about what's going on." The guy on your tennis team could have everything and more back tomorrow however, I refuse to believe that he lost everything and moved back in with his parents because the economy's bad. There comes a time where people need to stop blaming things on the government and start taking responsibility for money they invested themselves. Who invests all of their money and assets into ONE market? Must've been W's voice inside their heads urging them throw away all their money into Croc stock. Are we living in historic times? Absolutely. Is everybody going bankrupt and heading to the hills? Absolutely not. Chaos ensues when crazy people who assume they know everything (ahemmostofyoupeoplewhocontinuouslyinsultmeahem) panic when they haven't seen the whole picture.

Oh and before I forget, let me tell you about what happened while I was out shoppping, mister I'm-going-to-talk-down-to-you-'til-the-cows-come-home-because-since-I-think-you're-naive-and-uninformed-so-thus,-you-must-be, your friend on the tennis team probably sold his stock in a panic the day before it made its historic leap of 938 points or whatever it was. Oh and also, while I was out shoppping, I observed that the mall wasn't exactly empty.

So the next time you decide to arrogantly pin me as naive, ditzy, ill-informed, etc etc, perhaps you might consider the MBA program I've been studying in for quite awhile and that perhaps I know a thing or two about life, the stock market, and big (and small) businesses.

That's all.

you could look on the bright side; if it weren't for ppl like meggy who are upper/middle class and stimulate the economy by being spending, the us economy would be in shambles, (like 1910 germany) and ur friend would've lost his house a long time ago.

Meg... let me give you some honest to goodness advice from a man who considers himself to be successful (In my own mind of course).

Spend less time on the forums.
Do your homework.
Learn about the market through experience, not classes.
Get a degree.

Hopefully after these 4 have been completed, we can have a legit talk about "The Market". It isn't a knock on you BTW, I'm sure you're a very well rounded person.

That's all.

Lakoste, I appreciate your advice but I spend very little time on these forums, I often check in while I'm typing a paper or something. In actuality you probably spend more time here than I do. I didn't think you were knocking me, I just didn't appreciate Raiden's "while you were at the mall" comment.

cmon, dont be so harsh with Meg...
not cool to put someone down like that, if you think she's wrong on something, point it out and correct her, but puttin someone down like that.....
not cool daugh, not cool.........

ok now even I'm worried and I bet we would get here and go lower. I could not believe my ears today on cnbc. I think one congressman or senator said america is over or dead or something like that. Did I hear that correctly?! Somebody else said people with out papers should be given citizenship if they buy a house, hey some of my relatives will be glad to hear that one...... Did I hear this correctly? Pretty astonishing.
I wish the best for all my fellow tennis fanatics.

But...but, weren't you, in fact, at the mall?;-)

Since March of 08 when I joined with the name crash1929- the SPY has approx been cut in half. And we are essentially at new lows. What does everyone think?
