I have to admit I was definitely one of those folks saying Djokovic was going to win (basing a lot on how high his level was in the QF against Korda).

I think I said something like “Just give Novak the trophy now” before he’d even played the SF lol.

Mensik was great, and to beat Novak at his own game playing clutch tie-breaks was something to see.

Overall, Novak played very well but it seemed to me that by the end of the second set, he ran out of gas which will make it difficult for him to win any more big tournaments, never mind slams. Time Will Tell.

That's the main thing for me.

The glass-half-empty folks will fixate on the feeling that we will never see an era as great as the best of The Big 3. And we also have the Sinner ban, Novak declining somewhat and Alcaraz not winning everything in sight.

For the glass-half-full folks, along with Sinner and Alcaraz, there is a lot of young talent: Take your picks of Fonseca, Mensik, Draper, Shelton, Fils, Tien (for starters) along with some holdovers who can still do some damage.

I miss Roger and Rafa and the best of Novak, but I'm "half-full".
 
Mensik is only 19 yo. He might grow even more height wise. Reminds me of Del Potro. The thing that impress me the most is how effortlessly he glides on defense for such a big body. Draper OTOH seems like he's muscling everything in like Shelton. Mensik also does the little things that show he's has another bag other than baseline bashing. The fact he admires Djoker might indicate he's also into yoga which is very good thing. Will not be surprised if he surpass Rune to be the big three with Sinner and Alcaraz. He made Djoker looks like an after thought.
 
Mensik reminds me of Perricard. When I saw Perricard last year, I really thought he was going to win big soon and perhaps he still will. I think I might be slightly more hopeful with Mensik than Perricard but still not convinced enough to say that he will win a Slam anytime soon.
 
He barely got by Fritz and djoker was in a coma due to heat exhaustion and it still went to tiebreaks. . Sinner will probably win every tournament he enters when he returns judging by the recent form of the field
 
He probably would have lost to Machac if Machac weren’t injured. Good clutch performance and display of a strong mentality, but so many holes in the game to ever have his “era.”

His health worries me and there are hole in his game, but there is still a lot of hope. In some sense he is the reverse Musetti, he had success despite being quite limited during rallies.

Improvement there is a harder than the other way around. The quickest gains are imho in his second serve.

He was matching sinners pace and depth while moving quite well.
He’s off to a strong start this season.
Idk what happened last year after Miami , but he cooled off. Did have some back injury after uso that kept him out of some tournaments to close the year.
Still a young guy so will see how he builds off this going forward and into slams.
He had good performance at AO but injury cut him from playing Nole in 4th round.
