The more Djokovic wins the more he is hated

I know this is nothing new, pretty much since 2012 this has been the case. But wanted to know if the latest win brought all the haters to yet another level.

I don't hate Djokovic but I don't particulary like or love him either. I find him too arrogant for my taste, too full of himself. Athletes and actors often are self-absorbed but some of them more so than others. I was rooting for Djokovic on Sunday because I really don't like Federer and never have - I know I am in a very small minority who feels this way about him.

The OP is a bit silly. It's simply not true. It's the other way around. I'm not talking about TTW but more in general.

Honestly, people who hate Djokovic for any reason that has to do with tennis need help, and I am not saying this to be offensive. It is not normal to feel so strongly about someone you don't know personally who did nothing awfully bad, just like it wouldn't be normal for anyone to love, as in truly deeply love someone as just a fan. These are extremes, and they are very rare.

If you had a spectrum of emotion then I bet a lot of people on this forum (hardcore tennis fans) would fall somewhere closer to extremes than neutral but still not at crazy level. But with average fans (the overwhelming majority) they are much closer to neutral. So most people who "hate" Djokovic simply don't like him and their dislike sparks up when Novak is in direct opposition to someone they do like. It is not a cross only Djokovic has to bear, this works the same with any popular player. Just so happens that Novak is up against two largest fanbases in tennis so there's more "hate" coming his way.

I really don’t get it. Some of your nolefams are claiming he’s gaining universal love after the win, the media is jumping on the bandwagon, Fed is the sinking ship and on and on it goes; others, also nolefams are saying he’s hated more and more. Can you make up your mind?

Good for him if he’s gaining more fans as he wins more. But be very careful no one is young and will win forever. I for one am proud to say my love for Roger isn’t based on him winning everything. I got to know him after he passed his peak and only started following him when people claimed he was done and dusted lol

The celebration after defeating the 3rd man and fed was the display of the gladiator. Are you not entertained! This is sparta! The scowl and fury as he ate the grass. Connors like gutting that win out. Jimbo would be proud. The villain. What a display. Hope he gets even more dark and seething.

I think the resentment has reached it's peak. They can't hate no more. In the end comes the realisation that he is a GOAT, and then comes acceptance. Once that happens, he will be lauded by tennis fans, who can afford to attend slam finals.

It comes full circle in the end.
Becker loves him too. How about that becker like dive bomb stretch volley! Becker still lives on in those hallowed grounds. Love it.

I don't really understand the hate towards Novak. As a Federer fan, obviously I don't want him to win, but I don't feel the seething hate towards him like I do w/Nadal.

I've never liked Djokovic (on court), but this is actually the first tournament that I thought Djokovic did everything right -- behavior wise. I haven't liked Federer on-court since 2009. The incident with Roddick and the jacket... I thought that was the absolute lowest in class. The ultimate in showing up your opponent after defeat. Even worse than Djokovic ripping off his shirt (which is also horrible). And then when Federer didn't own his abhorrent behavior afterwards... the ultimate in cowardice... sorry. Federer gets no love from me after that.

For me, the highest class, respectable champions have been Del Potro, Murray, Cilic, Wawrinka, and Nadal.

Nole war cry can be LOLOLOLOLOLOL in reference to Fed failing to convert his 2 CP in the Wimby final - my god what a turn of events that was. Fed fans - eat a dick.

Lol @ Nadal, he makes excuses everytime he loses in minor tournaments, can never give lesser opponents any credit when they beat him and even has the gall to run into opponents at the change of ends at SW19 of all places circa 2012.

Seriously - have you got a brain.

Let the hate flow.
Also on a serious note I think that's not true.
Epic matches will always win admirers if not fans.
In Novak's case it is like a parabolic curve that starts at x=0, y=0 and goes to a maximum and then starts coming down.
The y axis is hate and x axis is the wins.
Till a certain point he acquired haters because he was beating Fedal and then they started to warm up to him and respect him more as he went into that top tier ATG category.

Nope not through. Most fans be it Fed Nadal etc don’t hate Djokovic or any of the big 3 they may not like something about their personality or game but not hate them they respect them.

The reason I said most is you will find certain fanatics that hate because they beat there favorite etc but most are not like that

My issue with the way the crowd behaved at Wimbledon this final wasn't that they don't like Novak but that they were partisan. At the risk of sounding elitist IMO that stuff doesn't belong in tennis away from DC, it has never been like other sports in that regard, especially at Wimbledon.

I rooted for Fed (and have been for almost two decades now) but how can you not respect the 4 (at time) Wimbledon champ? I don't like Nadal for example (and detest a good part of his fanbase) but you bet your ass I would have clapped his winners if I was in the stadium and I wouldn't cheer his double faults no matter how much I'd wish he lose.

There is no hate but there is a lot of dislike regarding Djokovic.Definitely not a popular champion.

He does get great endorsement deals though and he has big fan followings in some countries. It's the crowd at big tourneys that doesn't seem to like him, of course Fed at this point is a crowd favourite in almost any conditions.

At Acapulco IIRC correctly the crowd was rooting for Novak for example, it was nice to see for a change.

I think it used to bother him, now I think the animosity towards him makes him more determined to prove people wrong. Haters just keep adding fuel to the fire. I think he gets that he will never be the beloved tennis icon like Fed or Nadal and he has comes to grips with this and is now more focused than ever.

Lendl wasn't a fan favorite but he didn't care....winning was his priority, just like Noles.

The more Djokovic wins ,the more he is hated by Federer fanatics .

More projecting. I know many Fed fans (colleagues or neighbors) who aren't on TTW and do not hate Djokovic at all. For whatever reason, many in the Novak fan base endlessly claim this with no proof. Where are the supposed Fed fanatics here posting diatribes about Novak? I never see any. I can't imagine being so pathetic in your own life as to "hate" someone because they beat your favorite in a tennis final.

OP, no one cares about the elite uppity class people at Wimbledon. Novak's fanbase is much younger.

Have you seen the amount of endorsements he makes? Just the 2019 list his level of endorsements is exactly equal to Neymar levels and close to Messi levels in comparison who are huge Football stars, that's the perspective you need to see

Even in his sh1ttiest year 2017 he was making $28 million and $22 million in 2018 just off endorsements that was more than the likes of Messi, Neymar, Lewis Hamilton, Harden etc

Stop kidding yourself. Win or lose, haters gonna hate.

Actually, that is spot on true. Djo isn't going to win over anyone with his fake modesty and trying to be liked. Not sure why it matters. Djo and his fans should just mebrace the arrogance and the dislike and continue with group back pats. There is nothing outside for them.

I think the resentment (fear) reached its peak in 2015. They really didn't want him to win #10 and become a double digit champ. Now, the resentment is slowly dwindling down because I think people are finally accepting the inevitable.

That’s because each Djokovic fan is different, they’re not pieces of a single entity.

By the looks of it (considering the threads made after the match) Djokovic and Nadal extreme fans are looking to instigate and want to picture themselves as victims and cornered. Victim complex and cocky at the same time. Love it.
You realize it's a two-way street, right? When Nadal and Djokovic fans troll Fed and his fans, it's in response to previous trolling from Fed fans. If Fed fans were always respectful towards Djokodal, do you still think the threads you were so critical of would have surfaced following the final?

There is a "slight"difference, even if you are so tempted to use the parallel: the broad Federer fanbase never made a point of being victimised because of their favourite player. Some of them have been using the usual shtick typical in such scenarios that "they did it before", but that is a fanbase to fanbase reaction. There is no victim complex the way the most vocal amongst the Djokovic fans here display. You can see it: demanding respect from the media, the spectators, dividing to "easterners" and "westerners", claiming Orthodox brotherhoods, raging about "rubbing it in" by being tribal and rude etc etc. The circus.

Of course there is no victim complex among Fed fans; that would be too much. The media, the spectators, and the tennis establishment at large are already fellating Federer at every opportunity.
