The most competitive Grand Slam Ever

Which do you consider was the most competitive grand slam ever?

I was checking grand slam champions, and who they beat in their respective draws and in my opinion 1992 US OPEN, was really competitive. I can not find more slam champions and runner ups on one championship and tremendous matches during the tournament.

A lot of credit to Stefan Edberg for winning that US OPEN beating Pete Sampras at the final. I guess Edberg is really underrated, but in my opinion is the Best S&V player ever.

Which other grand slam do you think is close to this one. I guess no other is close not even in this era.

All three of you posted some great choices for competitive majors--some real "monster matches" in each. USO '84 would be another than comes to mind.

I also have a very special place in my memory for the centennial Wimbledon, that ocurred in 1977 and Borg won it in a classical five sets final against Connors. The semis had a newcomer called John mc Enroe...and that exhilarating classic between Borg and Gerulalitis that was considered by many experts to be the best ever match.

It was a big feast, hold in that unique Wimbledon spirit.
