The most memorable match your favourite player won

This has nothing to do about the top 10 or best matches of all time. It is about that one match you absolutely can never forget, the one your favourite player won when he was not expected to. State why it means so much to you.

Mine is Roland Garros SF 2011: Djokovic on one of the best runs of all time, favourite to win the match and meet Nadal in the final, was halted by Federer who came out all guns blazing. It turned out to be a classic quality match, intense to say the least. So much was at stake here... and who can forget that celebration at the end? The way Roger played in the semi I really thought he would take it to Rafa this time around. That belief was strengthened in the first part of the final, he started out the same way he finished the semi, had Nadal on the ropes until that missed drop shot when up 5-2 in the first set. Then Rafa got into his head and that was that.

Tommy Haas is my favorite player by far. While he still remains the greatest player to never win a slam, the 2012 Halle title over Federer is my favorite and most memorable moment watching Tommy play. Namely because it was after his 4th comeback and he claimed that 2012 might be his last season:

Yeah that was a good one...Tommy at his best. Not sure he has claim for greatest player to never win a slam though! I would think Davydenko and Nalbandian have a greater say in that.

That's a compelling debate, but IMO Tommy wins by longevity, balance between major performance/titles accumulated, and consistency across all surfaces.

If anyone was to challenge him for best to not win a major, I'd say it's David Nalbandian. He came so close in to many SF matches. Davydenko was extremely consistent though, 21 titles is amazing.

2009 Wimbledon - Federer def Roddick. Because breaking the slam record is a once in a lifetime deal. Probably downed 5-shots of whiskey to get through that.

AO 2017 final followed by FO 2009 final, Wimbledon 2007 final, Wimbledon 2012 final

Why AO 2017 final:
- My favorite player Federer wasn't favorite going into the match. His rival had a 23-11 head2head advantage with 6-2 in slam finals.
- At AO 2009, Fed was left in tears a match which he should have won. His matchup always cause problems, high spin looping forehand to the 1 handed backhand, not allowing service winners etc.

-Worse: IN other semifinal, the defeated semifinalist's game is almost a replica of my favorite player. And that player ultimately lost because of the barrage of groundstrokes weakening his backhand.

-Even worse: In the actual match, my favorite player started well. Won 1st and 3rd set. Then again drop down in 4th set and worse start to 5th set. He is someone whose return game is weak and all his opponent has to do is to hold serve. Which he did for 2 times. And then my favorite player won.

- And the biggest reason. My favorite player won after 4.5 years and defeating his greatest opponent.
I was extremely glad when he won Wimbledon 2007 final(beating his top rival in a 5 setter), Wimbledon 2012 final(winning a slam after 2.5 years) but this time it's both and beyond.
The closest is FO final as my favorite player finally could win it (after trying for years) thus completing the set

Rafter and Federer are my favorites of all time.

Rafter vs Agassi 2-6,6-3,3-6,6-2,8-6. Wimbledon 2001
Federer vs Nadal 6-4,3-6,6-1,3-6,6-3. Australian Open 2017

I would also have to say 09 Wimby Final and 17 AO Final. Esp this last one. The reaction on his face when he won was priceless.

I too vote for FO 2011 SF as far as Fed is concerned.

Nadal and Murray had both come closer to beating Djokovic up until that point and then Federer comes out of nowhere and beats Djokovic at the FO.

In retrospective Federer was the only guy to beat Djokovic in a major that year.

Fed over djoker Wimby '12 semis, because I knew he was beating murray. And at the time I thought that was the perfect ending, a last wimby and 17th. Boy was I wrong.

That 5 setter vs Berdych in the opening round of RG in 2013 in epic fashion after almost giving away a 2-0 set lead and facing 4 BPS late in the final set. I was out there on Chatrier cheering along with the raucous French crowd

Who played Berdych in that match?

Was still very early in my tennis fandom then, but obviously seeing Del Potro take down Agent Smith in the 2009 US Open Final for his biggest win.

And also Miami 2012 3R, that was the only signature Roddick moment I got to see, a moment of grit that defined what he was all about.

Classics: Ivan melting Johhny Macs face at the 84 FO, Agassi's first two majors in particular, and basically any match from Wimbledon 2001, the Greatest Tournament Ever Played.

The one and only Gurufils.

Andre's defeat of Pete at the Aussie in five sets in 2000, including an absolute clinic on how to return the Sampras serve in the fifth.

RG 2016

Huge legacy boost for Novak, while I attended the semi and the final.

When it comes to retired players, probably 2005 AO...

Federer against Nalbandian at the 2004 AO. Nalbandian had beaten Federer in their previous 2 slam matches before that one. By winning that match, Federer proved that he was indeed a contender for the title and that his previous successes at Wimb 2003 and YEC 2003 were no flukes.

And after beating Hewitt the round before, he got back to back sweet revenges against his 2 toughest opponents at that time.

It's satisfying in that same way that Rogi's win over Rafa at the Aussie was...you know Andre had the potential to beat Pete anytime they played, but he got in his own head too much. At the Aussie in 2000 he just let go and played freely not allowing Pete's sweetness to bother him, crushing returns and pushing him around the baseline whenever possible.

Melbourne 2017 men ..
That title would have given Nadal the GOAT and frankly i never expected Roger's victory ..
US open 1995 women ..
The first match between Steffi and Monica after the stabbing accident ..
Steffi lost the second set 0-6 and i was about to die:(:(:(

AO Final 2017.

I've kept telling people, that Fede still has the talent and skills to bring home a Slam.

The only downside was, that my ladyfriend roots for Nadal. Could not take full advantage in cheering for Roger.

Everyone knows my favourite player of all time is Pete sampras but I do like and support other players.

Petes most memorable match?
So so so many.

But it's between Wimbledon 1999 final for high level performance.

Wimbledon 2000 final for breaking the slam record set 33 years before. Parents in the crowd. Shin injury. Finished in the dark.

Us open 2001 quarter final because him and Agassi were at peak level on hardcourt in the same match. Incredible rallies and points. The best us open match of all time. Standard wise and drama wise.

Us open 2002 final because it's petes last slam. Perfect ending really. Main rival in the your home slam. Clutch performance

I'm going for Wimbledon 2000 final against rafter

For my other favourite players most memorable matches

Lendl 1984 French open final

Henman 2001 Wimbledon quarter

Federer 2007 Wimbledon final I was there live

Becker 1989 Wimbledon final

Edberg 1991 us open hammered courier

They are probs all of my top 6 favourite players
