The new generation don't have the charisma on court and off court compared to Nadal, Djokovic, Federer

They don't have that, feel, you get what I mean? They don't have that energy. That makes you go, yeah, this is the player I really want to back and really excited to see play.

I don't know if Djokovic has charisma, he just tries too hard to be liked and that rubs the majority of people the wrong way.

And the new guys are still finding their footing, they still have ways to go.

At least Medvedev is different, he doesn't care of he's the villain and he shines there, is enjoyable to see him get under the skin of people.

For me it’s completely a mental thing, a 35 year old player has no business outlasting a 20 year old on a tennis court yet they do. Musetti was in complete control then realised he was 2-0 up in sets and completely bottled it while Novak, Rafa and Federer are hardened to all these eventualities

The ATP are in a position the WTA was in a couple years ago where players had the power to beat Serena but would choke because they were leading or beating one of the ATG’s. Nowadays the young women thrive on the chance to beat Serena whether it’s Rybakina, Siniakova, Sakkari or Andreescu. It’s the same with the ATP now. Players can beat the top guys as we’ve seen but they choke.

I think that needs to be worked on, right? They get training I think. Personally, I find the big 3 are some of the least charismatic guys compared to some (cough) names I could mention.

I don't think the Big 3 are all that charismatic. They have good PR (well, 2/3 of them do) and win a lot. That's all.

To put it in an unflattering way,

Nadal is kind of a cookie cutter pro sportsman.
Federer is pretty awkward.
Djoker is more personable, but can't shut up.

However, they are kingly on the court, which is what matters most.

Federer is as charismatic as they come as you see at all the player days at tournaments and charity events.
Nadal has the shy, awkward thing going for him but still comes off as a nice guy who means well.
Djokovic comes off like a try hard, desperately trying to win fans and then sticking his foot in his mouth over and over again making bunder after blunder.

I don't think is lack of charisma. Is just that we have seen the highest level of tennis over the years with the big3 and they gave us incredible and very emotional matches. That's what they're lacking. At least Thiem gave us some epic matches, against Rafa in USO and AO and against Novak in the AO final. Medvedev had that one USO final, and Tsitsipas fought a great match vs Wawrinka in RG, and also against Novak in RG.

The problem is that those matches are against the players we already love. Have they played epic matches between them? I don't recall any off the top of my head. I think that is the problem. The USO final between Thiem and Zverev was a 5 setter, but can't count that as epic

I wouldn’t even say Djokovic has charisma. He always seems very awkward to me.
Regardless though Medvedev is 100% the most charming of the next gen. He’s very intelligent, very well spoken, quick and witty and gives very thoguhtful answers to anything that he is asked. He’s also effortlessly funny. All of his post match interviews are a treat and his press conferences are almost always the longest because he really puts time into crafting a good response to every single journalist.

I don’t know, Medvedev won myself and many over during that 2019 US Open from villain to loveable guy. Cheered for him more than I ever have for Djokovic who I don’t find charismatic at all.
Lol I loved it too.

Especially that swimming celebration lol

WTA and ATP are both like this. WTA is full of IG starlets more interested in showing their ass on social media, and ATP is full of guys who all want to be Dan Bizlerian.

What exactly did Medvedev do in Uso 19? Riled a few guys and then turned it around no doubt but still failed to win the Grand Slam.Thats the bottom line..There is no story in that. No story..Zilch.You guys have been watching too many sitcoms and movies..

A story is where a desperate underdog actually wins something.Kuerton was a story,Djokovic is a story..Safin was a story..Goran was a story..Now there is no story just the standards getting lower and lower...

People in general have less charisma than ever. Because they're no longer parts of societies and have no interpersonal skills. They're programmed bots incapable of independent thought who respond only to memes and keywords. They're awkward and lost.

That's why they keep holding everyone above a certain age in awe, and find themselves incapable of stepping up and superseding them in any walk of life. The circle of life and progress has ground to a halt because the last few generations are no longer able to function as viable humans.

Totally agree. He is very dynamic. That USO was awesome, he welcomed the boos and even antagonized the crowd all the way to the final. His comment during the trophy ceremony about what collage they would have played for him if he had won was hilarious.

True, although the ATP at least has 3 Serena’s essentially so it’s not so much a one-person competition.

I don’t think either sport will be better off without their top dogs though, it’s good they’re sticking around.

Is that so. Hmm...let's test that theory...

So Djokovic was once one of your favorite players and look at that as late as 2015, but you are saying you basically never cheered for him? I call bs on that and this just proves what I thought all along. Your sudden hate stems from the fact that he dominated in such a way that many think he is now better than your favorite, Federer. Before when he wasn't a threat to his record with 8 Slams, you had no issues. You would do the same to Medevedev or anyone else. At least others on here are more honest about it.
