The Next new major winner will be Kyrgios

Kyrgios could win a major by next year. Remember when Pete Sampras beat Wilander in 5 sets in the 1989 US Open? What happened the next year?

I haven't posted on these boards in a long, long time but I came back on here just for the purpose of posting in a thread like this.

This kid is amazing. I haven't been this impressed since about 10 years ago when young Nadal hit the scene.

Future is bright for Kyrgios, his game is exciting. Hot damn!

He'll win at least one major for sure, not sure he'll be the next new one to do it though,my money would still be on someone a little older...

Watching this match, he will need to control his emotions better to have sustained success.

Kinda like Federer, who if he had remained the hot head he was as a teenager would almost certainly not have been as successful.

Super ironic...... But, he does seem like he "could be" the real deal.

I love his game, but cannot stand his gamesmanship grunting. When he's in a tough situation, he often sarts these loud long grunts after the ball crosses the net. Must be distracting for the opponent.

From what I see now; he looks like a Monfils! He will beat a great player but will never win a tournament! Right now he is a clown! Lots of talent and shots but no brain!

Fantastic talent on display in this US Open by Nick Kyrgios, who has had very solid results in his last 2 Slams. He's had such little experience on the tour so far but has already made huge gains.

I don't think he's your next Slam Champion as someone like Dimitrov will win 1 beforehand, but he's a future multiple Slam champ.

2016 I think will be his breakout. 2015 will be a letdown before he regroups and gets to the Wimbledon final.

Quote me on this.

2015 will be a season where Nick will win his first title.. something like a 250 or maybe even a 500. He's had his taste at the highest level and it's time to build from the ground up, play events regularly and build up his fitness to go alongside his undeniable talents.

Let's see if his coach can teach him how to deal with the slices first. Robredo adjusted his game perfectly in the last three sets where he just toyed with Kyrgios with his BH slice.

It's a learning experience for Kyrgios, I never said Robredo wasn't a good player. Both are better than Lu though, that's for sure.

The great thing about Kyrgios is that even though he can be volatile in a match, you could see how accepting he was at the net with Robredo.. it was as though he acknowledged the lesson. Kyrgios hates to lose and will remember this match very vividly, and look to use it as motivation. He'll learn quickly and do what needs to be done, because he wants to be the best now, not in 5 years time...

This is mostly why his progress will be much faster than the Nishikori/Dimitrov/Raonic generation.

pretty much this

How he progresses will all be up to him. The limelight is too much for him right now. And not in the sense that he wilts under pressure but in the sense that he is too aware of it, even if it pumps him up. To be a champion requires a steel will and fairly steady resolve throughout a match. He's too concerned with looking good still.

Seems like Federer went through a stage like this in his late teens. So Nick's future success is all in his hands and head. He certainly has the talent and shotmaking ability to be a great one.

Kyrgios has already reached a QF of a major. 99% of the tennis world would die to have a resume like that. Give the pros some credit, jeez.
lol seriously how many tennis pros have there been in the open era? I'd guess tens of thousands. How many have reached a Major QF? I'd guess around 500.

Tomic made the QF at Wimbledon when he was like 18,and he's probably not going to amount to much...

Kyrgios is a future multi-slam winner...He has an exciting game and his personality is great for tennis.

He needs to control his emotions when down and not implode under pressure...

He also needs to acquire a brain. He is a one dimensional basher with no subtlety or plan b. right now his potential is top 20 only.

Its not happening.

I think comparing Sampras vs Wilander in 1989 is a pretty telling example of your lack of knowledge, or of the comparability of the two situations you mentioned. Wilander macked it in 1988 but in 1989 was in idle for most of the year and then went awol - he didn't win a single title and lost in the 2nd round of two majors he won the year before. The quality of the field is deeper and average age of first-time major winners is older.

Kyrgios has the most upside of any of the up and comers, given his mental fortitude and raw talent. You don't know much about tennis if you don't think this kid has the talent to be the next new major winner. Look at Dimitrov and Raonic. They are 4 years older than Kyrgios and had chances to make deep runs at this US Open, and then look what happened? Kyrgios has more belief than these two, and that alone is what separates the champions from the chumps.

We've been posting in a weak era without the likes of Blinkism, gj011, HAMMER77777, F1Bob, YodaKnowsBest, etc. Hopefully some of these very talented posters can return.
Three of the people you mentioned are beloved members of the Djokovic brethren.
