The Official 18x20 String Pattern Club

I also know it has good directional control, the dense pattern allows you to hit through the court more, going after you're shots, due to the lower launch angle..it has nice pocketing I do like to feel the ball on the strings

Nice collection! Will be interesting to see how it stacks up against @Classic-TXP-IG MID 's updated inventory!
thank you. half of which are now heavier than I care to use. I'm enjoying the 300g-ish models and building them up. The older prestige's I just don't use as much and my lack of playing and abundance of grey hairs don't make it easier for me. :-D

I gave the bumblebee to a friend. was too much SW when playing with similar level players or higher. my TC97 also feels that way

iRad - my brother-in-law has it now and is really enjoying it coming from the 200AG. I wish I gave this racquet more time and tried lead...

The tFight 315 I have is a bit glossy. I found what I believe is the successor of it with the same pain but not as glossy and also has different eyelets for the tie offs. They are NOS at a local shop. Been sitting there for years. Are the models with the different eyelets any different?

DC Melbourne. was one I tried along with a PB10 MP as one of the first 18x20s for me to try. But no longer with me. The time I did have them I was a worse player than today and couldn't handle it.

I don't see where the problem is....lol

Depends on which version of the TFight 315 you have. The 2013 version is Black and Red and glossy (not sure it comes with different grommets), but the later version that looked like the XTC 315 Ltd... may have come with the special grommets at tie-offs that are wider and the same as the regular TFight racquets in the range (non-Limited).

I'd have to see pictures.

Hope that was helpful.

Since this thread is alive again, I've found some comparisons of the tf40 vs HD but was wondering if anyone has experience comparing the Tf40 with the 97D ?

will have some info soon. I have a pair of each. 97d is stock with the exception of a different synthetic grip that mimics leather. TF40 305 v1 has leather, 5g silicone, and a touch of lead to match the pair. I don't recall the specs of either off hand ATM for either of the sticks.

sounds great--yeah, currently playing the tf40 stock (which I do like, but might experiment with leather), but do slightly miss the free power on serves I got with the 97d I briefly demoed--will be great to hear your thoughts

Another interesting thing about MAX 200G and 300i is that their 18x20 stringbeds, despite being on a 85sqi frame, are actually spaced about as wide as a modern 98 or 100sqi stick. The average cell size of the central 100 cells is 1.325cm2, in comparison Ultra Tour is 1.1cm2 average cell size on a 97, and Speed Pro is 1.15cm2 average cell size on a 100sqi. frame, so MAX is in fact fairly open.

Still rocking my Becker London Tours. Only mod = leather grips. I just find that I can swing more freely with them. It doesn’t hurt that my GOAT string setup with them is the dirt cheap pairing of Prince Lightning Pro and Kirschbaum Proline X.

Unfortunately not sure when I will play next. Will check back in when available to report

I wish I picked one of those up....or kept my Melbourne/PB10

Just got bit by the 18x20 bug again and bought a new Prince Textreme Tour 100P Limited White Edition while they're still available in North America! :D

I would describe Prestige as having all the feel and control you could want in a racquet. Amazing precision , I feel like I can do anything with the ball with this racquet. But you are not going to get any extra help from it, you are gong to have to be able to work the racquet. The new 2022 Speed Pro feels incredible too, the auxetic definitely increased the feel in these new Head racquets. With the Speed you're going to get more help from the racquet, easy power and more forgiveness from the 100 inch frame. The Speed hits a heavy ball and is the best racquet I have ever hit two hand backhand with. They are both amazing racquets and a lot depends on your style of game. I would say if your a finesse player who likes keeping the ball in play, go with the Prestige. If you like more of a power game, go with the Speed. I would say the 97D is in the middle of these two frames. You get more power & help from the 97D than the Prestige, but not as much as the Speed Pro.

want another 18x20? trade you for something :)

Former 18x20 hater here. Couldn't stand the board-like feel of a dense string bed. Craved the lively feel of 16 mains (previously used Pro Staffs and Pure Controls). But now that I'm older, I've come to appreciate the predicable response of an 18x20 - especially on off center hits as I'm still getting my game back following a long break. What also helped was learning that I can string poly at much lower tensions (48-52 lbs usually) to improve the feel and power of an 18x20. In my small collection:

Former 16x18 player here (4.0 - 4.5) that believed heavy spin was the name of the game. I recently tried a 18x20 racquet and immediately switched. I just sold my 16x18 and bought 3x multiples of my 18x20 (Prince Tour 100P) and I’m never looking back.

The amount of control and predictability I get with 18x20 is just on a whole other level. Very happy to join this club, and I’m shocked 18x20 is not used more widely, especially at the intermediate level where more control is generally needed.
