The OFFICIAL 2010 Australian Open Men's Draw Discussion Thread

Id say this surface suits Djokovic the most, his favourite surface is slow/medium hardcourt where he has more time on his forehand. Djokovic's forehand can break down on fast hardcourts.

I agree.

He wasn't mentioned in the post I was responding to, though. My point was that Djokovic shouldn't be grouped with Federer and Nadal. He belongs in the tier with Murray and Del Potro.

Murray is not in the same tier as Djokovic or Del Potro. Heck, he isn't even in the same tier as Roddick. Give me a break; Murray seemingly fails nearly every time when given an opportunity to step up.

You're missing the point. I'm not saying that Djokovic won't win the AO. I'm saying that based on current form, you can't group him with Federer and Nadal. Tsonga and Soderling weren't considered favourites for obvious reasons. Not being considered a favourite doesn't mean a player can't win the tournament. We're talking about probabilities. I'm not rubbishing the suggestion that Djokovic can win the AO. Of course he can. However, he's no more a favourite than Del Potro, Davydenko, and Murray.

What a joke, Djokovic performed well at the end of the year and has won the AO before. He's a much bigger favorite than Murray, and right up there with Del Potro. I don't even like the guy, but he's certainly got a much better chance than people are giving him here on Tennis Warehouse, especially considering he probably has the easiest draw out of any of the top 10 players.

I don't think Verdasco's a hard draw.

The guy had one good tournament.

Davy's possible draw looks like from 4th round:-

Verdasco
Federer
Djokovic
Nadal

This is tougher than for any other top player I reckon!

So to win the tournament he would have to beat the 9th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st seeds!

Surely it can't get tougher than that?

You've clearly missed your vocation in life - because the guys who do this for a living make Murray at least as big a favourite to win AO than Novak. Now I'm not saying they're right - I'm just saying that on one side are thousands of professional analysts using all sorts of advanced techniques, representing the global betting industry - and on the other side is there is you.

But I'm sure you're right.

I don't agree that Roddick is a bigger favourite than Murray.I am not sure that Nole has more chances either.Esp with his perfomance in Kooyong-I'm not talking about results-those count for nothing, but for his attitude :I'm tired of playing tennis-and it's only start of the season!!
Murray on the other hand, seems determined, has made changes on his shedule to be able to peak up for the slams, seems focused on his training and his physique. His whole attitude is so much better than Nole's..I believe sooner or later we all have to endure a british press orga..ehm party.sadly.:(

In Scotland we have an ancient tradition called GIRFUY. My GIRFUY thread if /when Murray wins a slam will be thing of splendid beauty. Men will speak of it in hushed tones around camp fires a 1000 years from now.

Yeah I'm sure they are right. Just like how they had Murray as the favorite over both Federer and Nadal last year right? They were completely right then too.

I'm pretty sure Murray is going to fall flat on his face once again as usual.

Roger Federer was the bookies favourite for the AO last year. Murray has never been favourite to win a slam. It's a TW meme that affects the hard of thinking.

The bookies being wrong on previous occasions doesn't make them wrong this time. I have no way of knowing if they are right or you are right - it's just a matter of opinion and judgement. You have yours - they have theirs; the only difference is that they match talk with dollars.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure that Murray's never been a bookie's favorite, but he's been a co-favorite at least once.

He was co-fave for a while in the build up to last year's AO. Roger was clear fave by the time the event started.

That Murray victory thread better be all kinds of amazing.

:)

Enough with the pressure dude. I've only done Masters Series victory threads before. People say I've got the talent to do a slam thread - others say I'm just a victory thread pusher...we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.

I am getting this powerful feeling that jmdp is going out early and the murray/nadal winner will steamroll roddick and be much fresher than the person from the other side and dominate the final.

Vamos, :)

If nadal can't win, murray would be my
2nd choice for the trophy. :)

hmm...interesting interview. I didn't know these things about Murray's upbringing, and it does shed a slightly different light on the guy. His antics on court - facial contortions, whining, hands-thrust-out-in-frustration, etc. - do remind me a little of McEnroe out there. But even Mac won slams, so Murray has some proving to do.
