Not sure how I feel after that match. Sure, great fight from Maria as usual, but she's just not playing well and one of these days these slow starts are gonna bite her in the ***...

It really went off the rails for Muguruza in the third. She lost 2 or 3 games at the start of the set she should have won. Then all downhill from there.

Well, the key against Sharapova when you're up a set is not to give her any chances in the 2nd. But, easy said than done I guess.

It's difficult because even if you do your best to prevent the comeback, she just automatically plays better than in the first set because she's been through this pattern so many times before. It's all mental.

I agree, that's why I was worried when the got the 2nd.

Maria will need to play a lot better, otherwise Genie can win. Of course,Maria in top form wins easily, but she's far from that top form at the moment...

Genie is ready to face the challenge--I cannot recall a time when she has not been ready to take on any opponent (no matter the outcome), but as i posted in another thread, -the moment Serena lost her match, Sharapova could see the finish line and will continue to be relentless, as in her recent match.

I cannot see anyone stopping her from a second FO title.

Halep seems to be playing more conservatively. Not aggressively going down the line like she did sloane. Change of tactics? nerves? Or kuzzy giving her a less attack able ball

IS Halep just a BETTER version of Errani ?????????

I think she is less prone to be overpowered. And has more firepower and attacking mindset herself. And her serve is not quite as attackable. But they both are great movers who have "all the shots."

So....yes?

I know a lot of people don't like Errani anyway, but she should have won that match. She's one of the best clay court players on the women's tour and was the heavy favourite. Whatever, I hope Halep - should she get through her match - takes out Petkovic in the semis. I'd rather see the young up and comer succeed rather than the journeywoman on a hot streak.

You say that sure, but then she gets crushed. How can you say she should have won when that happens? Before the match perhaps, but after what we just saw happen. No friggin way.

I also don't agree that she was "heavy" favourite whatsoever. Slight favourite maybe, but absolutely not heavy favourite.

It's because of the rain. The bounce isn't as high which heavily favoured Petkovic. Take Errrani's high bounce FH out of the game and she's toast.

In these conditions I'd easily take Djokovic over Nadal. Remember the part of the 2012 final where it started raining. I think he won 8 games in a row at that point.

Errani is out, so we can rest assured there won't be a re-enactment of the craptastic 2012 final.
