The Official Angell Users Club

Hey fellow Angell players, could you help me. I have 4 TC95s, 16x19, and they are absolutely great, but now I have started to think about having 18x20 versions too… Talk me out of this, my credit card already tries to hide from me...

So: Can anyone compare the 16x19 and 18x20 version, assuming all the other specs are the same?

I mean, does the string pattern make a real -noticeable- difference? Does it give me something the 16x19 can't? Usually I haven't liked the feel of very dense patterns. There has been a lot of talk about the high launch angle of 16x19, but it doesn't bother me, and yes it is possible to hit flat shots with 16x19 when needed. But I am curious...
From what I hear its very easy to change between them. I used the TC95 Ra63 16x19 too and if I played a lot of doubles might be tempted to pick up a 18x20 to compliment my 16x19's but overall very similar. For singles I think if I wanted more cintrol Id maybe just restring the stick with a slightly higher tension.

I like to groove on a stick and not screw myself up but when I used the Prestiges Id switch between a 18x20 MP and a 16x19 pro with MP being my main axe. Now that ive gone full 16x19 I dont know if Id use a 18x20 much.

OK. No problems with control, actually I don't believe that denser string pattern can make a big difference in that. Trying to hold my horses now… But I'll keep my eye on those 18x20s, because one day I might switch to gut (I'm over 50 yrs old, using full poly) and it lasts better in dense pattern.

Has anyone here changed pallets on a K7 Lime?
I’m not sure that I can achieve L2 size only by changing to thinner grip(plus overgrip)
I want to change a L3 for a L2, in a “Wilson” type.
Suggestions?

If the lime is the same as the red (pretty sure it is) then it doesn’t have pallets - it has a molded foam grip like Wilson, Yonex, etc. you can heat it up and remove it with some careful patience and whatever implements of destruction you desire (exacto knife and flathead work for me) but it will void the warranty and usually destroys the foam grip. The upside though is that there will be a nice quality graphite Angell hairpin underneath and you can customize whatever fit of pallets you want to make it work for you. Others may know better than me but I think I remember reading that Angell k7 hairpins are slightly bigger than other manufacturers so you may need to go down a size in pallets. It’s possible though, just depends how much time you want to spend. May be easier to sell and buy another. Upsides though are you can completely customize the grip to your hand and this process in theory lowers the RA a bit increasing the flex.

Thank you guys for the quick and detailed reply. I will go for shape B3 then and probably order additional C3 pallets for the unlikely case of me not liking the B shape.
I just read your post and hope you havent ordered yet. Yonex grip size 3 would be a wilson 4 and an Angell 4 grip size for sure!!! So get yourself a grip size 4!

So,will the Head TK82 or 82S fit in the Lime?
I have a K7 Red and I can confirm with absolute sure that grip size in bigger than the TC line.
I didn’t receive the Limes yet,but I’m pretty sure that yout may be right and found the grip larger than usual.

Were you looking to get new sticks? What would you have ordered?
Not sure, but it's always better to get them when at a discount. This is my first and immediate response but when I dig deeper the answer changes.

It's interesting that you asked that, as I was just watching a documentary on our consumerism and culture of excess. There are different parts to me and they would give you differing answers, however, the simple all-encompassing response is probably 'No, I don't need new sticks'.

I currently have the TC95 and TC97 in both string patterns (and some spares just in case). I tried the K7 Red and didn't gel with it (preferred the TCs), and for that reason won't be giving the K7 Lime a go. I'm not interested in the larger head sizes of the TCs, which doesn't leave much else.

Sorry for the longwinded answer... I'm just trying to figure things out and thinking out loud :)

Agreed it's easy to get sucked into buying new things with sale. I've made my peace with purchases and most of the time I only buy used racquets now. Unfortunately there aren't that many used Angells in the 2nd hand market, so this is an exception, I guess.

You make me want to try all the racquets. First the Yonex. Then the Tecnifbire. Now these Angell.

This is the place for all of us who have embraced the superb custom racquet experience that is Angell. Unlike every other "official members club" we don't all have the same racquet or specs, but that is exactly what makes Angell so great; custom tailored racquets to each of our needs. It seems we're seeing more Angell converts every week, and that makes me happy.

Include your racquet and unstrung specs.

I own a Tc95 70 ra, 310g/315mm. I love it.
But i need 3 raquects and Angell raquects never went on sale or any kind of discount. The tecnifibre 315 Ltd XTC seems very close in specs with my Tc95. I have heard that there are foram filled too. Do you think is a very valid option?
There was 25% off during the Wimbledon Finals on Angell Racquets. I’d say - buy 2 Angells instead of compromising with 3 racquets from another brand and never feeling fully satisfied.

Hi guys. Just bought a tc95 v3 16/19 ra63 -I’m so excited to use it. Just wanted to gather peoples thoughts on a nice string to go with it (nice blend of power/control/spin/tension main)? Kinda thinking of black knight or rs Lyon... any more to consider? Thanks!

Our resident Angell expert @topspn has the same stick and likes BK a lot. It is a fantastic string that complements the racquet well. I would definitely give that a go.

I personally am a fan of RS Lyon in all of my Angells. I used TC100 for the longest time and these days I have multiple TC97 in bag. Do not have extensive experience with TC95 unfortunately.

Oh and congrats on getting yourself a great racquet! (y)

Thanks! The thread’s previous discussions were key to me purchasing this racquet

You sound like you have a great selection of frames in your bag - enjoy!

I’m thinking black knight at 49lbs, although need to see whether that be in a16 or 17g.

I really like BK 1.28g in my TC95s. Also really like BZ 1.30 and I string them up both 48-50lbs depending on winter or summer. I also think RS is an extremely good fit as well

Hi guys,

Quick question for you. I live in Switzerland. Any way to order a new Angell custom ? Do they deliver in Switzerland or maybe France?

Thank you for your help

Thanks. Great to hear. Gives me that confidence to go ahead and buy some.
Also, while it loses tension after a few hours (as most poly) it's still very playable for a long time. I've been playing tournaments these past weeks, 3-4 matches per tournament so roughly 10 hours of play and the stringbed was still very responsive, a bit more power, and no string movement.
I cut before the next tournament more for psychologic issues than string issues :-D

Hello fellow Angell fans,
I’ve come across a used TC97 classic for a good price, but it’s an L3 grip, which is too large for me. Do you guys know if it’s possible to swap it for a Head L2 pallet?
Also, the grip on the K7 Red I used to own ran way large. Do the TC97 classic and V3 have the same issue?

The L3 will be fine, Angell TC grips run small

Goddamn I want a K7 lime so bad. I have a TC95, 320g, 16x19 70 RA and this sale makes it tempting...

I finally got 2xK7 Limes!
Since the beginning I was very curious about this frame.
It’s everything I expect and...even more,in stock!
The great feel of the K7 Red with lower launch angle for flatters(like me!) and a master control frame!
2 hours hitting very hard with zero ashes on arm!
My forehand was like a suisse clock!uauuu
It works just fine with thinner poly gauges at 45lbs(20kgs).
However,it’s not easy to play...requires much more footwork than my Prince Tour 100...it’s indeed a more “player frame” with a smaller sweetespot
Maybe my next “tournament” frame for 2020, after my lovely Prince TT100P...

Hi guys,

I am considering buying an Angell custom v.3 but I would need your help.

I am hesitating between the 97 18x20 version 6pts hl or 7pts hl ?

My current favorite sticks are the blade 18x20 and the prince 100p and soon the Gravity tour (I hope).

I am looking for a racket between the blade and the tour 100p. Meaning more manoeuvrable than the blade but a little bit less headlight than the 100p to gain some power... Also my holy grail could be the Gravity Tour or the Angell v3... What do you think ? And do you think 6pts hl is too much weight on the head of the racket considering that the angell is 310gr and that I am more used to 305gr or it should be fine ?

I mean the blade is 3pts hl but with 304 gr, so I guess 6pts hl and 325mm for the angell will still be more manoeuvrable than the blade right ? Any people think I should go with 7pts hl ?

Thank you for your help
Cheers

Anyone string a K7 lime ? I'm wondering if the grommet system is the same as the other models ....strung with hyper g 16L at 51lbs, had to do a one piece job. It's a challenging one to string, I'll probably get better with practice but holy hell. Can't wait to hit with it

Yeah grommets for the lime and other 18x20s are interchangeable (tc95/tc97)

What strings do you guys like in the lime? I tried Pro Line II, Poly Tour Pro and Head Lynx. Liking lynx the most so far. In 1.20mm.
Well, today was my first day hitting with the K7 Lime, so I can't really comment on comparing multiple string setups with it, but I have 16L Hyper G @ 51lbs in it. I want to try Technifiber 17 red code wax and vokyl cyclone 17 around the same tension. Today with the Hyper G was very promising.

I used a yonex damper, wilson overgrip, 2 g of lead at 3 and 9. I don't know the exact weight and balance now - but it feels justttt slightly headlight. Maybe like 3-4pts HL. It's clearly much lighter than my PT280, but not as light as my blade.

I think I have found my holy grail with this setup....the feel is dare I say better than my PT280. Buttery, like the ball is on the strings for a long time. Maybe something to do with the twaron/aramid they use. No discomfort, and not underpowered. It has a bit more free power than the PT57A. I have not played with a racquet yet that felt this good and I played this consistent with...I hope it's not just a honeymoon thing, so I'll keep playing with it and report back. But so far, I am extremely impressed, I believe I'll be sticking with this one...

The only thing that is a bummer about the K7 Lime is the durability of the paint. I accidently smacked the hoop on my ball hopper - a sizable piece of paint just flaked off like nothing. First day using it ….I can live with it I suppose if it continues to play this

Hi guys,

About the grip, has anybody tried the perforated or Hybrid pro proposed with the custom v3 ? What is the difference between the two ? Which one has a better feel you think ?

Thank you for your help

What I’ve used on my Lime:

- Hyper G in full bed or hybrid with RS Lyon (just to soften the stringbed feel): very good control, decent spin, and totally comfortable. Good feel also for touch shots. 18g, 47lbs.

- Black Knight / Ghostwire hybrid: softer set up than with Hyper G, not surprising given Ghostwire is a soft poly. I really like this set up but I string it a little higher at 48-49. It loses tension faster than the Hyper G setups.

- Technifiber Red Wax Pro: stiffer string so I go 45-46lbs. It’s not my favorite set up out of the three.

Note that my Lime with leather grip and tungsten tape is about 352g all-in. I’m guessing the added weight gives more pop and that’s why I feel like I shouldn’t string at low 40s (don’t know for sure how it would play, but at 46-48 feels perfect).
