Looking to maybe jump to the Angell club but unsure which frame or frames to start with... 5.0 all-court player former collegiate player currently playing with Ezone DR 98 weighted with leather grip and lead to a strung weight of 345 g and about 9pt HL. Had occasional shoulder and arm issues in the past so looking for an arm friendly frame, which I hear most are. Didn't know how the 66 RA frames felt compared to say a stiff 66 RA pro-staff frame.

Firstly, the 66RA (or any RA) mentioned with Angell is pre grip being put on and pre-strings... so that would go down to 62-63RA strung. This would mean that it's softer than say a 66RA Pro Staff frame.

The main thing that I would be looking at is the flex profile and the string pattern (although I might be stating the obvious). I think from memory the DR 98 flexes in the throat and has a stiffer hoop, so based on that I think the most suitable frame might be the Custom TC95.

Now, Angell frames have the 18x20 and 16x19 options, for most racquets. The 16x19 is quite open, much more than the DR98, and the 18x20 is quite tight (but very manageable in my opinion). I have found the 18x20 to be much more consistent and predictable in its performance (the 16x19 needs the right string gauge thickness to manage the high launch angle, but it can be done). I would say that the DR98 sits in between the two Angell string patterns, but that the 18x20 is closer to it than the 16x19. The racquets come in 70RA and 63RA. The 70RA frame will end up in the mid-60s when strung and with grip on, and the 63RA will end up around 60RA (maybe a smidge lower) strung and good to go.

The other racquet you could look at is the K7 Lime if you have decided to go with an 18x20 string pattern. I tried the K7 Red (which is the 16x19 version) and didn't like it as much as the TC95. I have not tried the K7 Lime as a result, but many have liked it.

Hope this helps.

Anyone have any string recommendations for my TC97 16x19? Been playing it with Ytex Quadro Twist which plays really nice but would like more options.

I have tried a smooth poly in the mains and a softer string (like Babolat Origin, or Multifeel, or Ashaway ZX Mono Gut) in the crosses. I would go with a 1.30mm thickness to control the launch angle. The softer Multi-like type strings have also softened the feel of the string bed and lasted longer than a pure Multi. Gut is very expensive (and I live in a Humid environment for a large part of the year) so I haven't tried that option yet.

Hope this is helpful.

Start with tc95 16/19 63RA,i also had arm.issues and played with Dr 98 (still play with Dr),tried tc97,tc95,k7 red and for me TC 95 was a winner

Over the years I’ve used full beds of soft poly including scorpion & black night. I’ve also used Origin in crosses with various poly’s in the mains. Current set up is origin in crosses black night in mains & for me it plays like a dream. The beauty of origin which is a natural polyamide is there’s excellent power, comfort, feel, tension maintenance & durability (when used as a cross) downsides is it’s pricey if you break strings regularly.

Nick, can you please compare TC95 to K7 Red?
Κ7 is faster, lighter, standard specs compare to tc line which you can order weight, balance,grip.k7 is not stable enough in stock form, personaly didn't like the balance so i replaced standard grip with leather plus some lead but after that the magic of fast and light racket gone. TC 95 has more sw so expect more power, better serve and general different feel due to construction, box beam if i remember correctly vs D beam ,had high hopes for k7 red but didn't like it at least not enough to switch from Dr 98

I use gut mains and smooth poly crosses. When the weather turns I put in Velocity in the mains. Both setups play great for me.

Received the new 2 x octane TC95 18x20 (coming from 2xTC95 16x19 copper), strung it up w Angell hybrid, going to give it a spin, but boy I love the PJ, even though the copper one is super classy looking, this one just looks banging ;) Cant wait to hit w it later on today.

Yeap, octane PJ is the bomb! I want to see more octane-like PJs, but with different color combinations, like copper + dark red, silver + light blue, etc.

Does Angell have a demo program? If not, does anyone know what stick is most similar to the Prostaff 97 non-cv or Prestige Youtek MP?

No demo program... and I'd say a TC97. Now, the PS is 16x19 and the Prestige MP is 18x20. The TC97 16x19 is more open than the PS97 16x19, but the TC97 18x20 is similar to the Prestige MP 18x20... so when it comes to choosing a string pattern... you decide.

I would also recommend the K7 Lime that is very similar to the Prestige MP as well. K7 has a more muted feel than the TC frames because of the aramid fibres (klevar or twaron) that the famous Head Pro Tour 630 also contains.

I just had my first hit with an Angell racket today. Not the exact specs I wanted but close enough and I just wanted to get a feel for it. I thought it hit great and am really interested in getting my own. A couple questions please:

1) The racket I hit with is supposed to be a TC95. When I compare it to my Vcore Pro 97 330 and Babolat Pure Strike Tour (98 headsize), it looks almost the same. Is this expected or did I hit with a TC97? I know there is a spec sticker on the racket but don't see headsize listed.
2) I'm thinking about getting the TC95 16x19, 63 RA, 330g/310mm. Since these are unstrung specs, what would the strung specs with overgrip look like? I imagine RA would go down a few, weight maybe 345 or so, what about balance?

TC95 and TC97 have the same size, at least visually. There may be a tiny difference between them -- one will be pressed to notice.
After you add an overgrip, the specs will be 354 g / 322 mm / 7 pt.

Anyone know how K7 Red compares to ProStaff 97?
K7 Red is a lot softer. Richer feedback. (ProStaff 97 is foam filled + has Counterveil => very muted). K7 Red is much less stable. Power on groundstrokes about the same. On serve, PS97 produces more powerful flat serves. Overall, K7 Red is pleasant, but PS97 is more effective as a weapon.

Wow, 354? More than I expected. Somebody suggested to me I might want to try 320g/310mm or 330g/305mm so I'll have to think on that a bit more. Thanks for the info! And good to know about the headsize.

It's pretty easy to decrease angell's weight. Angell frames contain weights inside the handle. You need just to remove the grip, and then remove/move weights to receive desired weight and balance.

This is not true. You have to remove the buttcap and pallets down to the bare hairpin. In doing so you run the chances of ruining the pallets. You also need a special stapler (pneumatic or electric) to put the staples back into the buttcap. Manual stapler will not work.
People make it sound like you remove the grip, remove the weight, and you are done. As somebody who has gone through this, I assure you, it is not as simple.

It is not like replacing a grip easy but it’s not that hard either. I have done it before and I removed pallet completely intact with no problem using a simple pen knife then wiggle pallet off. I used carpet tape to replace old tape and used a manual stapler. First time is just knowing what supplies you really need but then after that pretty easy process

Question for those that have played with both K7 Red and K7 Lime: Does the K7 Lime mirror the K7 Red in terms of stability in stock form? Or does the extra weight (Red 305 vs Lime 315) help with overall stability? Thanks in advance.

It is not “that” difficult. You can easily reuse the staples again if you take them out carefully and remembers which staple goes into which location. Done it many times and no problems.

I think the K7 Lime is more stable than the Red. Just a feeling.

Hey everyone, do you know if Angell can ship to Mexico?
And the cost of shipping is the same for every country?

I would think they could and no, shipping is not the same for every country. I believe it's based on the size of the box (i.e. what you order) and where you're located. When I have Angell shipped to the US, they always list the shipping cost based on the specific zone they are shipping too. Hope that helps.

I was the one suggesting this, and I really think the 320g / 310mm is your safest bet. 330g in an Angell is really beefy, even with a 305mm balance point. These frames, especially the 63RA ones, swing heavier than expected due to the foam filled construction.

It's all personal, of course, but the 320g / 310mm should provide ample plow through and stability, if this is what you're after. I'd also recommend getting it with a synthetic grip. This way, if you really feel you need to increase your static weight, you can always swap it for a heavier leather or hybrid grip, and counter balance with a couple of grams of lead at 12. This is easy to do. Whereas if you get the 330g and it turns out to be too heavy, you're stuck.

Yeah, I think at this point the 330g/310mm is for sure out. And I am strongly considering the 320g/310mm with the possibility of swapping a leather grip on it moreso than the 330g/305mm. I appreciate the input!

Hi all,

I have the chance to buy a used 70ra v3 TC95 16x19.

I've been eyeing an Angell racquet since January and this is the opportunity to get one about £100 cheaper and try it out, since obviously I can't demo.

However, I note that you can't buy the 70ra version of the TC95 16x19 anymore on Angell's website. Do you know if it's temporarily out of stock, or if it's permanently out of production? I'm wary of falling in love with the racquet and being unable to buy any other versions.

Thanks to anyone with advice.

It's HIGHLY unlikely it's permanently out of production (and I use Caps Lock key once a year...just for You.). Shooting a message on FB, however, costs no time at all if need be sure. If the used 95 is the one I've noticed in classifieds, I'd pull the trigger.

Thanks, I dropped them a message on FB.

I'll probably go for it in the end and buy more 95s if I like it. I used to play with the 200 M-Fil as a teen so I'd love to see if I could replicate the solid feel of that racquet but with more free power, spin potential and forgiveness.

Incidentally, does anyone know if Angell's non-racquet products are of similar quality? I get 10% off my first order so I'm thinking to pick up some shirts and wristbands while I'm at it as they're fairly cheap with the discount and I'd ideally like to pay for shipping only once.

I don't know about their clothes, but the bags are just ok - they are not bad, but not the similar quality as the racquets, unfortunately.

Yeah I kind of figured. The company's selling point is that Angell is an experienced racquet manufacturer, not a fashion designer.

T-shirta are really good fabric, organic fair-trade cotton. I need to see if they're durable but so far no complaints.
Wristbands seems to last a bit longer than the rest of the pack. I have 2 black ones that I used extensively since December and no sign of them losing elasticity. Overall quite happy with their clothing.

Finally got to hit w the new octane tc95 18x20 330g 12hl strung with angel hybrid at 53lbs. The control is insane, Im a flat hitter, and just pinpoint accuracy is amazing. I dont know why 16x19 is so popular to be honest, you get plenty of spin with 18x20 as well when needed, but put away shots are just phenomenal - definitely wish Id switch to 18x20 long ago. The only thing I need to dial in is the serve, specifically the kick serve thats about it. (Im a 4.5 player).

Couldn't agree more. I think it also depends on the style of play. If you're on clay and are into loopy balls with lots of spin and you're looking to grind your opponent into the ground... maybe the 16x19 with thicker strings would make sense... or if you're hugely into the kick serve and are playing on the US hard courts and the ball is going to kick like a mule and make things difficult for your opponent... but if precision and accuracy is what you're after, and you want to hit through the court (or your game is not based on huge spinny balls hit through the centre of the court)... 18x20 all day long.

At the end of the day, the options are there and we can all make our choices... but I agree with you, for me the 18x20 is a far better choice.

Played 18x20 prestige’s mostly, as I got older I started hitting more 16x19 playing more doubles. I think reason I gel so well with TC97 16x19 is for some reason it plays more closed than the pattern looks, and has lower launch and spin to Tc 95 16x19.
