The Official Angell Users Club

The octane paint was thicker and gave the frames up to an extra 5SW points, so your experience tracks.

I will likely be buying a matching v5 TC100 to the v4 I have, so will be able to report back in a few months.
I was given a heads up by Angell that it would be higher, but I didn’t expect the frame to feel so much harder to play with and feel a bit different hitting the ball.

Update to my prior post:

I'm definitely just out of shape haha.
The TC90 plays wonderfully. Very crisp hits and spin friendly even. It has the classic woes of shanking (mid size) if I drop my focus even a little. But otherwise, an exceptional racket that I believe is worthy of retiring my PS90. I believe another TC90 to pair with this one is on the horizon.

The thicker beam is noticeable as more of my shots penetrate the court more than they used to. Less forgiving than the PS90 for sure as well, but overall a very good racket.

I own TC97 in the V3 and the V4 paint jobs. I also have an octane V3 but it doesn't feel the same at all as the regular V3 so I don't use that one.

Has anyone bought a V5 in the same spec as their V4 and V3 and is it similar or different? And in what ways? Considering getting one new V5 to have in the rotation with my V4 and don't really hit with my V3s anymore as their feel is getting worse with lot of play.

But I loved the V3 paint job a lot more than the V4. Anyone who has the V5 can also comment on how it looks next to the V3 or V4 if you have them in hand?
Hi, I have a few TC 95 18x20, versions 3 and 5. V5 feels just a little firmer, other than that I can't tell them apart.

But the V5's are new, only 4 hours played, while the V3's may have gotten softer due to several stringings and use. So there might not be any real difference.

Thank you! How's your impression of the cosmetic between the V3 and V5 and do you have a pic of both side by side?

I really liked the paint of the V3 better than the V4 and feel was about the same for me.

Been playing with a pair of v1 TC95s for some years now (16x19) and thinking that I should maybe get another one as backup. Got them used so I don’t know how old they are. Maybe 10 years? One of them is missing the trap door on the base of the butt cap. I wonder if they can replace that.
Do the current gen still feel pretty close to the V1 versions?
Also, has anybody gotten one of the Angell racquet bags?

If you contact Angell via the website I'm sure they could sort you a replacement trap door, I've bought replacement pallet and butt cap previously but it didn't include the Angell badge, it was just a blank cover but worth asking IMO.

It's anyone using the React RCMP (99" 16x19)? First impressions are it plays like a slightly lower powered but more manoeuvrable TC100 which is perfect for me (with a much nicer cosmetic IMO). The stock twist weight was a bit too low (12.5 on Briffidi) so I added some lead to 3&9. Current specs are 13TW, 324SW, 328grams static weight, 8 Points HL. So far I prefer it over the React 18x19, it's currently strung with a full bed of TF MultiFeel 1.30. I like the TC100 but the swing weight is right on my upper limit so the heavier polys bump it up a bit too high for my liking, the React gives more wiggle room for string choices with it's lower stock swing weight and feels better on my OHBH.

I like both of them. V3 is cool with its black/ copper -combination, and the V5, black frame with red/orange inner hoop reminds me of the Wilson Pro Staff Tour 90, circa 2003 or so... it was one of the best looking racquets back in the day.

I had two Angell Bags, older version was black/ blue, and then the black/ copper.

They were OK, but unfortunately not quite the same quality as the racquets. The straps separated a few times -I had a shoemaker to repair them- but eventually the zippers broke. YMMV, but here in Finland long zippers cost more than the price of the bag, so the shoemaker told me it would not make sense to replace them.

I still have Angell backpack, black/ copper, it also is decent but if I put two racquets in it, the zipper(s) opens by itself -a common problem with backpacks, so this one is not better than other brands.

Edit: I also have the racquet sacks, and they are good. When travelling, I put the racs in those before I put them in my luggage. No scratches and the grips stay fresh.

Did the grommets of the TC95 18/20 change between V2 and V3?
It says so on the Website but I dont think there were any changes made, right?

Anyone Has more Information on this?

Too high tension for TC95. I think you’ll be happier at 48lbs
I totally agree with you here. I wanted to try it exactly to spec as my Prince so I could see how they compare. I've since cut out the Hawk Touch and strung it up with Solinco Outlast 1.25 @ 47lbs. Very crisp, spinny, powerful, and also looks very clean with the orange/red in the hoop of the V5!!!

I would like to get opinions on the grommet setup for the 95/97. I really don't care much for the forced tie off holes and where they are located. Specifically the bottom cross tie off at 11T (knot touching last main) and the mains tie off at 6T when the last mains are 10T. Just a lot of extra string and weaving on the outside of frame that looks sloppy and creates some slack in those last strings. What you guys think?

All stringers have complained of that and difficulty of getting strings through. Yes, it’s a shared pain

No issue at all getting the strings thru for me even with 1.25. More so the mess of all the excess string overlapping itself on the outside

isn’t that only an aesthetic problem ?
Technically yes but also will be more difficult to get those three strings as consistent as the rest of the bed. Already lose some tension when pulling a knot but now got all that extra slack/string skipping 3 grommets to get to tie off grommets. Likely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things just sub optimal design despite the racket being 10/10 quality!

Just to clarify: You mean the 16x19 version? No problems with 18x20.

We all have awls, it’s a basic tool every stringer has. Still a pain compared to other racquets. It’s not the best tie off location and threading the covers holes isn’t the best on Angell grommets.
Its not a normal awl, but this one where there is a hole for the string to be guided through the blocked gromment hole:

I think you’re missing our point a bit. We shouldn’t have to do these extra things. The design for stringing is not as thoughtful as many others.

No I am not missing the point, and I agree. But since you cant change the design for your favorite Angell 16x19 racquet, the Guiding Awl is a really good tool to have, and makes stringing easy for blocked holes.

Thanks for the tip, I've just ordered one of these guiding awls, I have all other types but not this one. I agree the design isn't optimal, with a stiff string it's not too bad but trying to get a soft cross through is tricky. I picked up a used TC100 V5, I'm not sure if it was from someone on this forum but it was 28" long and came to me strung with Yonex Rexis, the swing weight on my Briffidi was 366! I've cut it back down to standard length and it's now a manageable 325 strung with Ashaway Crossfire ZX Hybrid (kevlar mains and zyex crosses). The kevlar is lighter than poly so I assume with a full bed of poly it would be around the typical 330ish. I definitely prefer the V5 cosmetic as I was never a fan of the V4. I'm being very picky but on this one the line between the black outer frame and red/orange inner hoop isn't particularly sharp, like the masking wasn't applied straight while painting but overall I like the cosmetic, will see how it plays this weekend.

This is how you use the awl, I newer used wax.

My stringer is on the Yonex stringing team and done 20 years of slams and even he said the grommets are not the best, and he has all the right tools I can assure you. I have had and owned 7 Angell frames and grommets are the only downside, everything else is amazing.

I agree the Angell grommets are not the best.
Last week I tried to replace the side grommets of my TC99.
Although I was able to install one side grommet in one go, the other side grommet kept getting stuck in one of the holes.
Additionally, shaped strings tend to cut into the grommets.
Therefore, I only string my Angells with round strings.

To be honest; I dont think you will find what you are looking for in the 16x19 pattern Angell rackets (you have made that experience for yourself). And I dont think the 18x19 of the TC99 and React 99 will give you ‘more spin’ than the Blade Pro. The launch angle will be significantly lower on the 18x19 angells. Maybe the K seven 98 (16x20 pattern) could be something for you; but I havent tried that yet.

I think in your case I would stick to the blade pro.
K7 red is a very spin friendly. It also depends on strings.

Yeah, round strings do help for sure, even thicker gauges work. Loving origin/gw 53/51 in both my 63ra and 70ra tc100's

About to place an order for my first Angell and wanted some input before I pull the trigger.

4.5 OHBH all-court game.

Racquet history: Head Ti Radical MP ---> Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 95 ------> Prince 93p --> Wilson Ultra Tour (both 16x19 and 18x20) --> Yonex Ezone Tour '22 --> Head Gravity Pro Auxetic. Latter 3 modded w leather grips and lead to get SW ~300 and TW ~13.5.

Looking for the maneuverability and solidity of the earlier sticks but w more free power and spin. The Ezone was too big of a departure into the tweener world. The Gravity is great at the baseline, but too clunky in transition and dubs, and also a little unwieldy in defense.

Looking at the TC99 315g / 310mm.

Did you end up pulling the trigger or still pondering?

I don't currently have either of these but when I did, id say Aero 98 hands down
The tc90 also is 70ra and 16x18 how did power compare? I think the tc90 is only like quarter inch circumstances difference .. but I wonder about power of the 2,,tnxx̌

I guess specs would matter here. Mine was 330g/305mm and 16x19

I felt the Aero98 still had more pop overall compared to the TC95

My PA98s are 335g, 331SW strung and I’ve had the TC95 in more than one configuration. PA98 power is pretty good and very compatible. On serve, the TC95 truly shines and is a monster

I'm trying to get my maximum RHS on my serves... I've had my best results with my friends 19mm youtek speed pro, but it's 15 years old... I've also looked at the 20 6mm blade 98L 67RA strung

For whatever reason Angell TC sticks all have big serves. Maybe it’s the combo of slimmer beams and foam filled

I might get more RHS with tc90, over the tc95 resulting in more powerful serve. All opinions welcomed

hello
I mainly use Percept97.
I like the comfort, fast swing, and control of the Percept 97, but I am looking for another racket because of the slight lack of power and low launch angle.
So I'm considering purchasing the tc97 16x19, but is this the right solution to my problem?

Ordered demos of the new 305s, RF01 Pro, and Whiteout v2. If I don’t gel w any of those then yeah I think I’ll order the TC99.
I wish Angell had demos so you can feel the racket and try it for a week before pulling the trigger. Because I'm considering getting one, but I had to have it custom made and then not be totall in love with it and have just spent like 240 bucks.

I'm about to order a new TC95, and I'm getting some grommets for my old V1's while I'm at it, but on their site it says that their grommets are compatible for V3, 4, and 5. They should still be fine for the V1 though, right?
All the same. Just get the right string pattern. Moulds stay the same throughout. Just msg angell on social media to confirm.
