Yeah, doesn’t do manual prestretch but he has a pretty nice full electronic gamma constant pull machine. He strings for Northwestern which is a big D1 tennis program. Machine has the CP you refer to but i truly don’t know if it is same as manual stretch or not. Anyway, a little prestretch is better then nothing ;) Will see how long the playability lasts but if i get anything close to the 40 hours some people claim that would be amazing

I think you'll find that you may get to 40 hrs. The kevlar stays the same and doesn't really change, it's the cross string that gives up. Some people even just cut out the crosses and put in new ones and keep going (from what I've heard).

Would you be willing to try stringing the Kevlar Mains at mid-40s and Crosses at low to mid-50s, if you keep using the string hybrid? I ask as I find it crisp enough (yet comfortable) with this setup, and for that reason won't try 55 Mains and 45 Crosses (unless you tell me that you found that to be better).

40 hours? Sign me up! I am snapping polys at 8 hour mark and if I don't, I have yet to find a poly I could play with over 9-10 hour mark.

It will probably get to this 40-ish hour mark... in fact, the longer it stays in the racquet the better it gets (at least from the Kevlar part). The issue becomes the crosses. The Kevlar at first feels crisper and stiffer, and then as it settles in the racquet gets more comfortable (sometimes takes one or two hits).

At first, I tried the Forten Hybrid (Kevlar Mains/ Syn Gut Crosses) in my TC97 18x20 (still have it in there and it's been months - still plays great), now I'm trying the Ashaway Crossfire Plus Hybrid with Kevlar/ ZX Mono combo (in my TC97 16x19 and the K7 Red) to see if the ZX is better than the Syn Gut. The ZX looks and feels smoother/ sleeker, therefore may allow the Kevlar to move better.

Well, that’s the idea with the ZX cross being lower as i understand it. It is elastic and resilient like gut and reportedly people say the Kevlar will break first before the ZX. The kevlar at the higher tension snaps back quicker and easily slides on the ZX. ZX lower tension also keeps stringbed stiffness nice and comfy and doesn’t die like some other cross strings. According to the so called experts on this hybrid it’s a perfect marriage especially at the high main to cross differential.

How is the power level? Hope the string bed doesn't feel dead..may be time to try the hybrid on my TC95 @ same 55/45 lbs...I have a set for almost an year but I feel pain in my arm just by looking at kevler..lol..

So what you're saying is that you would not want to try it the other way around and let me know which you prefer. I'm just clarifying as I feel you didn't answer that part of my message (not upset or anything just trying to get a clear and straight answer). Either way, all the best and I look forward to all your future posts. If I ever decide to try it your way I'll let you know which feels better. At this time 45 for Kevlar feels stiff enough.

No more pingy sound on V3 TC95. The problem was strings. Knots tails touching the frame, to be precise.

This topic lacks V3 info! Will have to order them myself now. Just doubting which ones to get..

Snap. I’m having the same struggle. I need more info on the reported reduced swimgweight of V3. I’m also really wanting to try the TC95 and tossing up between 16x19 or 18x20 pattern.

Yeah, i get it, I had a pack crossfire ZX sitting around for 1 1/2 yrs and couldn’t get over the idea Kevlar will destroy my arm. It is pretty comfy though so it’s a psychological thing with the name. Power level is pretty decent, like a medium powered poly. Control is excellent and so is kick on topspin. Tonight is the ultimate test, playing this setup in my PS P17 which is my stiffest frame.

I honestly don’t know how to answer this right now. Look at it this way, I just strung 3 of my racquets with Crossfire @55/45 and if I really get 40hrs, it might be a while before i think of restring so you’ll be waiting for a while ;)

Having played with 3x tc95 18x20,1x tc97 18x20 and k7 I have a conclusion that tc95 18x20 needs SW for best performance ( I guess 325 strung minimum) while tc97 could still perform good at lower SW. 16x19 patterns might have better results because of the bigger sweet spot and forgiveness. My k7 was stable enough for my game despite around 321 SW strung. TC95 18x20 at 320 SW was very similar to yonex duel g in stock form. Really nothing special regarding playability... higher SW changed the frame A LOT !!!

My top 3 frames are tc95 18x20, Wilson blade 18x20, yonex dr 98/ Angell k7.

TC97 didn't make it to top 3 but maybe it would have with lower SW. First he would have to beat ig prestige mp slightly above 360grams/310-315mm balance strung.

I have identical spec 95 and 100s in 16x19. I love both. The 95 takes a bit more work but rewards with precision. It hits a monster ball for a 95. The 100 is clumsier but easier to play with. Also hits big ball.
Do you know the sw of the 95 and 100?which one is more arm friendly and easier maneuverability?

Both are about 323 SW (strung). Both are same arm friendly. 95 is more maneuverable. 100 bigger sweet spot and little more spin.

But as you can imagine, they are very similar.

For a 95, yes. But not the same level as 100s.

I feel your pain. That's why I bought both :D

Where do you live? Maybe you can demo.
Greece, never see someone hit with angell here, maybe you can help, currently using dr 98 which i like the 1hbh,serve,low stifness but dont like very much the forehand with this racket, also it lacks of plow, dont want to increase sw so i play stock form, i also hit with prince tour 100 16/18 when i have arm issues but definitely is not very stable racket although i like the 100 forgiveness, never owned a 95 but hit occasionally

Hi! So last year I started playing tennis again after 26 years. I was playing tennis as a junior to the age of 11 and than I stopped. Now I'm 38. So last year I picked up a used Babolat AeroProDrive 2012 so I could see if tennis would start to get to me. And it did. But now the APD is giving me slight elbow issues and it lacks the stability on heavier hits.

So now I accidentally found out about Angell and I'm wondering if a TC100 would me something suitable for me. I'd like to stay on the 100sq inch head but I need something more comfortable and more stable as my APD is. The strung weight of the racquet is 331g and the swing weight is around 330 (if i did my measurements correctly) and it's kinda ok. I think a heavier racquet wouldn't bother me because I'm strong enough to handle it.

Btw...are grip sizes approximately same with Angell racquets as with Babolats? I'm using an L4 size on the APD and I'm thinking of going with a bit thinner grip.

If the info is confusing, I'm really sorry, but I really want a good quality racquet with the right specs for me.

Thanks,
Milan

Don’t overlook the tc97 16x19. I had some time with the DR98, also for some reason I couldn’t dial in my FH which is very rare for me when testing frames, I was hitting the net tape Far to often for my liking. I found the TC97 to have a little extra power and is more scalpel like round the net with its thinner beam. Similar comfort with slightly more spin going to the tc97.

I’d guess a V2 310g tc100 9 HL would weigh in just over 330g strung with a SW around 330-335.
Your arm may thank you, tc100 would be a very good choice.

I really liked the DR98 on serve it was very accurate but did feel I didn’t get enough pace, I have a very smooth lefty service action, I serve predominantly nasty angles and make opponents move around, I have enough pace and guile to keep opponents from attacking me on 1st or 2nd serves. With the DR98 I noticed returns came back more often than I was used to, almost like the ball wasn’t as heavy. With my tc97 which has a sw of 325, I’m able to carve all the angles yet keep the ball heavy.
Hope this helps, TC custom series are all great serving frames tbh.

V3 I hear have lower SW, I have no personal experience though.
V2 63ra tc100 is a great frame, just need to check with Paul their sw’s as there are differences from frame to frame.

I tried some lead at 12, also tried lead on the pure control tour which I really gelled with but never really able to get what I wanted, I wonder if the DR98 thicker beam slowed down my RHS in comparison to my tc97...both had similar weight and specs.

Many people complain about dr forhand, dont think is because of the thicker frame

If Kevlar feels the same regardless of tension then it’s the cross that influences the string bed stiffness. So again, according to the experts, Kevlar high tension helps longevity with quick snap back and lower tension ZX gives a more cushy ride and slippery cross

Hi, just based on what you said, a TC100 70RA would fit you just fine. A lot more comfortable then APD and L4 will be a bit smaller then your current

I received my first Angell racket last week!
V3 TC97 18x20
Length 27.5
Weight 11oz, 320mm
Grip Shape A

First off, the racket is gorgeous. I was tempted to hang it up as art and I might have even shed a tear from just looking at it. "This must be how my wife felt when I got her a YSL bag."

Alas, I manned up, strung up, and hit the courts.

The racket does take getting used to. Like others have said in this forum, it really demands good technique and the right string setup. I first tried a full bed of cyclone 19g at 48/46, but didn't like it. A previous post had recommended a stiffer poly at a higher tension. I then tried proline ii rough 18g with ogsm 18g hybrid at 50/53 and it felt much better. I will continue to experiment with different string setups.

Groundies: plenty of pop and good control with the 18x20 pattern. It didn't whip through the air as easily as my vcore 98+ or my iPrestige mp xl, but my shots felt more plush and solid. I did have to adjust my 2hbh slightly. Not sure if it was due to the launch angle or the flex of the racket.

Volleys: a nice person on this forum told me that the TC97 would not feel as "boardy" on volleys as the iPrestige and he was definitely right. Volleys felt very comfortable.

Serves: Just like many people on this forum have said, this racket is a serve monster. I could hit big flat serves all day with this stick.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality and playability of my first Angell. It's not going to magically improve your game, but its great for those that know what they want out of a racket.

Great..thanks..I will try it next time and post my experience as well..primaryly i am worried about the comfort.. if it works,we can have a long lasting and consistent string bed for few weeks..

I may try it in future... just not sure why the manufacturer would recommend the strings to be strung the other way around... that's all.

I may try other strings first, especially in my TC97 18x20, as the tight string pattern may contribute to the stiffer stringbed feel and may keep the experimenting with Kevlar to the TC97 16x19.

Dimamid did not like his TC95 and is selling it. In my experience Beltsman is right in saying that "the TC 95 and 100 will have much higher spin and launch angle than the DR" (98) so I'm sure that dimamid is not contesting that.

higher launch angle, much thinner beam, higher sw for sure in the 63ra TC’s although the angels would still feel crisper than the DR feels even in the 63Ra.
TC97 is closer to the DR, with bit more pop and narrower beam.

That’s exactly right I’d say, but would add I found tc97(tour) to have quite a bit more power than either. At least on hits right in the sweetspot ( which wasn’t quite as big as the tc100 but similar to the dr98).

Hello Angell users!
Since i bought my first Angell i have been reading this thread for a long time. Its noticebale that arround here people love both (Tc95 and Tc100) Angell 63ra, and Tc97, but only in the 18x20 string pattern. And lately the K7. My question here for you, is, why so many follwers of the raquects above? Are these Angell raquets actually better than the 70ra versions and tc97 16x19, or the users of 63ra versions and TC97 18x20 are more interventive?
I am asking this because, i am a current user of a TC97 16x19 for 3 years now, and i love it. But seems arround here no big compliments! So, every time i think buying another raquect, comes up always the doubt... should i buy another tc97 16x19 or should i try the "Hammer´s Thor"? or the Monster serve?
thanks

I think a lot of people here just enjoy the flexy feel which might explain the gravitation towards the 63RA. I personally think the 70RA frames are certainly on par with the 63RA and fantastic frames. If you are used to the firmer feel or just seem to playi better with a not so flexy racquet, they are the way to go. I had TC95 and TC100 in 70RA as well and both play beautifully. I tried the TC97 once a while back and didn’t like the additional head flex compared to TC95/TC100

Stick with the TC97 16x19, and/or buy another one.
If it's working don't fix it. You love it.
Unless you are unhappy with something in your game then no need to try something new.

I have both the 18x20 and 16x19 TC97, and I love them both. I have yet to try the TC95 so I can't compare but will be looking to get the 63RA version (probably in the Classic V2 version).
