That's a relief. I string my own, and fairly poorly at that, and I have very few pro skills when it comes to dealing with tough grommets. I also use 16-gauge almost exclusively.

The grommets are tight, but the only time I've had issues is with Kevlar or gut, since both of these have a tendency to fray.

I just figured he has put tons of research into designing these frames, and that everything has a reason. He could have taken the opportunity to call it something silly, like most racquet manufacturers. But he didn't. (Super sweet spot, massive spin, tight grommets or something) So, that is commendable, and just another reason I love my Angell frames.

I prefer larger grommet holes. It's one of those things that I wish Angell could give customers an option on.

I didn't think about the plus side. Maybe. I'd love to hear the rationale behind it if there is one. I just don't wanna have to dig into the grommets a lot while I'm stringing. But I'm still getting one, no doubt.

Interesting idea, I like tight ones myself... I never used to think grommets mattered till last year when I played one of my best matches with new strings and grommets. Now Im slightly superstitious about it. These modern poly strings are very slippery after all soIm not sure it does much. Still my old Max 200G had big holes and the O-Ports do feel different than the traditional grommets.

My take on the size of grommet holes is that the larger they are the higher the comfort.

Take, for example, the Volkl Super G grommets. They are larger than their Organix counterpart and improves their arm-friendliness. Volkl's most comfortable frame V1 has the largest grommet holes. They compensate for the frame's high stiffness.

Prince O ports and EXO3 ports all contribute to that end.

Comfort is tough to define... but "muted" is what I experienced with O ports and the Max 200g ...Though the 200g has a lot of other reasons for being muted. Muted can lead to enhanced comfort for many but I like the feedback too. Nothing about the TC95 seemed overly muted or dampened, just that foam filled "Thuck" feeling and sound. The recording engineer in me likens it to a noise gate. The initial attack and sound is there but not as many reverberating vibrations after... the vibrations are more quickly dampened.

When I had TE, I tested many racquets looking for best comfort, so I didn't really need to define comfort. my arm could feel it readily.

Angell/Vantages, while arm-friendly, were not the cream of the crop in that department, so I had to abandon them for other racquets.

But you're right. For those with healthy arms, the feedback from vibration is quite desirable. For myself, the racquet could be super muted, and I would still get plenty of feedback because of the heightened senses around the elbow.

so true.. we all define it on our own terms... when the PDR i was using when I first came back to the sport six or seven years ago gave me tennis elbow I switched to a prince and I was fine. I didn't and I've never had tennis elbow since or before that Babolat. The most comfortable frame I've ever hit with is the max 200g possibly more than even the wooden rackets I started with.

Does TC97 have very tight, constricted grommet holes like the other Angell models?

They are a bit smaller than other rackets I used. I strung the TC97 today with ULTRA CABLE that is supposed to be only 1.23 and I had slight trouble with some grommet holes (for some reason the UC seemed more like 16 or 16l). The other 2 strings I had before (co-focus 1.18 and big hitter silver 1.25) were fine

I don't think you will need to "dig" re. the 97 unless you use a thick gage like 15 or you use very soft 16g multi or gut.

The grommet holes are def a bit tighter on the TC97 than most other frames. I had two string sets on my blue one and one of the top grommets had split. Albeit I was stringing head gravity. That was a PITA to get through.
But, I will say that the bumpers fit exceptionally well. It was a breeze replacing them.

So it probably makes sense to buy some replacement grommets when I order the frame, huh? Especially considering shipping costs.

That's what I did. Anytime I order, I get everything I need. Because shipping 1 grommet set, and 6 sets, racquet sacs, and pallets, was roughly the same :) I have restrung these several times though, and haven't had any trouble except for Prince Premier Touch 16, as it is a soft string, and on the TC-100, there is a double blocked hole on your bottom cross. With the help of another more experienced stringer, I learned a ribbon trick, but I have not had to use it since I use 17 gauge.
As to the O-ports, I love them. They make any string comfortable, and I definitely attribute that to the ports. If I were to guess, the tighter Angell grommets, make for a great feel IMO. On the 100, the double blocked hole is the only problem area, and I have strung so many, it isn't a problem. I follow the stringing instructions that I found online (jpg file)

What's the ribbon trick?

I will check to see if it's already in the stringing section, because I will destroy the explanation. But quick description, when you are pulling tension you put a small piece of ribbon strategically. Then, you have something to grab to pull the string out of the way, making it no longer double blocked. (He can explain it much better) I don't have to use this method though, but it's nice to have options.

It's a trick when you know you have blocked holes. Take a scrap piece of string (or something equivalent) and use it to allow yourself some space between the string and frame when pulling tension. Usually on the mains. When you get down to the bottom of the frame with the crosses, you'll have some room in which to work to push through the string.

i ordered two extra bumpers with every frame. all in black.
IMHO, the black or clear bumpers look the best on the TC97 paint job. Blue is def meh. Red is ok.
I'm gonna go with red, but I wished he offered gray as a color for the racquet. That'd be my first choice.

I searched and couldn't find what you were referencing with ribbon as the search term, so if you have a video or an explanation you can link to I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

John P-burg have you done a comparison between the TC 100 & the Textreme Warrior?

Hi TC 97 users. What about comfort? It's easy on the elbow, wrist? Or it's better to use 95 with Ra 63.Thanks

Not yet, It is on my to do list. I am trying to get some court time in this week, and will hopefully be able to make a better comparison. There are 3 frames I am trying to make a commitment to, Angell TC-100, Textreme Warrior, Textreme Tour 100T. The TT100T is the least powerful of them, an they all have great feel IMO. I can switch between them without missing a beat right now (and RA's between the Angells). It has not been easy narrowing down my favorite :(

The ribbon trick was explained over the phone to me from a forum member!! (I just didn't want you going insane looking for it!!) When I get time, I will type it up..it isn't magical or anything.

I've been mulling over getting a TC 100 for a year now. I demo'd the Tex Tour 100T last summer and couldn't get it where it was better in any category than my Speed MP or Donnays. I'm hoping the TC 100 would have a little more power than the Graphene Speed MP. Now, the early reviews of the Textreme Warrior are intriguing and I'll probably demo at some point. USTA season starts in 3 weeks and if I'm gonna switch racquets I need to make a decision before very soon. I'll stay up on the warrior thread and this one.

Thanks. Hopefully I won't need it for the TC97 but that has happened to me before stringing for some of my lesson clients and I could use a trick or two.

Been using the 97 for about 3 months now and no elbow or wrist pain at all, and I have had intermittent/mild TE the last year or so with various other racquets prior to getting the 97. I've also been exercising a bit with one of those Thera-Band Flexbar devices and that seems to help on the strengthening and preventative side. But, I find the 97 as having a unique blend between comfort and crispness in my shots. Very pleased so far.

Be sure to comment on the handle shape.
That's the one part I'm a bit worried about. There were a few conflicting opinions about whether A or B would be closer to me YTPP handle shapes, but I went with Paul's recommendation.

He said they should send it out in a few days, but judging from the forecast, the weather here isn't gonna allow for too much testing right away. May need to guilt one of my cheapass friends to split an hour indoors with me.

I ended up asking Paul to send me some A shapes as the B shape is too close to Head TK82 pallets (I haven't broken out the calipers but I will once I get the replacements). But I also go with a L4 size so maybe that's what is throwing me off.

He said if I felt Wilson frames felt too square in my hand to go with A, and I do. 4 3/8 on a Head with an overgrip is perfect for me, but it feels too big on a Wilson. So fingers crossed he steered me right.

Got to play for a few hours today... the TC95 RA63 is an exciting frame and people in the club knew even knew what it was. An extensive and ongoing review in the works. You can definitely feel the flex in the 63Ra it is definitely more like 57-58RA strung. Very solid frame and it really does do everything well and the flex lets you "carve the ball"... but not a noodle either. not for everyone...If you like PS 85's and more modern prestiges go with 70RA. If you liked the PC600 PT630 this is more in your wheelhouse. There is a real sense of "dwell time."

Here is the review: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/angell-tc95-16x19-flexy-shakedown.553138/

I've owned the Vantage 90, 95 (both 16 and 18 mains) and 100 and I've just picked up a couple of the TC97s from a fellow TW member. Mine are spec'ed out at 350g, 9pt HL, 325sw and I must say that I think Angell hit the mark with this frame. Compared to my modified APD2013s (335g, 7pt HL, 320sw), this frame hits a much heavier ball that goes through the court while still being fairly easy to get around. I missed that confidence with a player's frame where I can swing out with a relaxed stroke and the ball just zips through the court. Loved the touch as well as drop volleys just were too easy to execute. Compared to the RF97, the TC97 is not quite as solid or stiff, but it's definitely a lot more playable since the weight isn't in the throat, which made the RF97 too sluggish for me. Dare I say it, this could be one of the closest frames to a PT57A 16x19 out there.

My TC97 is en route from England and we're set to get a foot of snow? Curses. A week from Sunday it's forecasted to hit 53 in Philly. Guess I'll be shoveling a tennis court sometime next week.

question? - has anyone else hit with with both the TC95 and TC97 at same specs to compare yet? im trying to work out why the TC95 feels more headlight when i know that they are matching specs totally! 95 is 70ra and 97 is 66ra, both are 27in length and 330g unstrung and same grips and OGrips strings etc..? when i recently took off pallets to change from grip C to a B i weighed them both without the weights in handle and pallets(only string) and the 95 'bare'weight was 233g and the 97 was 242g, would this make a huge difference in how the swingweight feels?
