What can be said.. I'm pretty much done with tennis until next RG.. If I see similar thing even starting to look same as before I'll turn off my tv and wait for next year.

I'm not overreacting here but Novak winning RG is pretty much all I care about.

This was NDjokovic's last chance to win Roland Garros. No career slam for NDjokovic. This is the equivalent of Wimbledon 2009, for ARoddick. NDjokovic will have to settle for a JCourier/MWilander/SEdberg-type career.

It was heartbreaking but Nole pushed Ralph to 5 sets when conditions favored Nadal and had a real chance to win until he botched that point.

Djokovic will win Cincy and another slam (probably USO) this year and try for all masters and slams again next year.

Its ok, he showed better fight compared to last time. Hope his time will come. He has got the game, so I would not count him out!

He won a set last year, 2 sets this year. It's going in the right direction. You just need to be patient.

There's so much more tennis left to be played this year. Novak will gain his mojo back once he step on cement ..

Yes but he can win every tournament in sight until next RG, I really couldn't care less, Novak proved himself on HC, won that Wimbledon title, only Cincinnati title is valuable to have to complete all MS titles but I know that even Novak himself at this point knows that finishing career grand slam is all that matters before he gets too old.

I'm sad but it's true. Gencic knew as well.

you are the only Nadal Fan who posts with some sense!
Maybe because I admire both players. I will never hate on Novak. Honestly, I think this win was more crucial to Rafa than Novak. I'm not sure Rafa would have recovered from losing another tight match to Novak in his last bastion. For Novak, it's a disappointment of course but it's not as bad as losing the AO or USO to Rafa for instance. He was the challenger here. He did better than Fed. He's gonna cry today I'm sure but in the end it's not that bad. He will have more opportunities at RG and if he's that close at RG, he can hope to do better on other surfaces. This setback will give him even more motivation to keep working and improving. At least that's what I think.

I gave myself a few moments to let the soul crushing despair wash over me, but I've shaken it off now. I don't believe this was his last chance at the title. I was afraid he was going to lose in 4 the way things were going so I'm happy he fought back and took it to the end. I don't hate Rafa so it's not as hard for me as it might be for some.

Nadal would have recovered just fine. The same way Djokovic will recover just fine. This actually gives Djokovic much more confidence now, knowing full well he can hang with Nadal at RG.
The same way Nadal's confidence improved after his great performance against Djokovic at AO.

Sampras never got the career slam and he is still remembered as one of the greats. Career slam is cool, sure but there are other things to be proud of in a tennis career.

Yeah, I think Djokovic, if he focuses his game, will beat Nadal next year in RG.

It's kinda like the Nadal-Federer dynamic in Wimbledon. Rafa got a set the first time, then got really close to a win in 2007, then he finally did it in 2008.

I see something like that for Djokovic here. Maybe next year he won't have any close people to him that die as well, who knows how that put a damper in Novak's mindset in 2012 and 2013.

Little bit of a parallel to Fedal here.

Wimby: Fed the king, Nadal challenger
FO: Nadal king, Djoker challenger

W2006 Nadal takes one set, W2007 Nadal takes 2 sets, W2008 Nadal takes 3
FO2012 Djoker takes one set, FO2013 Djoker takes 2 sets, FO2014 Djoker takes 3?

It just took Djoker a little longer to get to where he is now.

Most greats have not won the career slam so if Novak does not do it, he will be in great company. He may not do it and you should be happy with that, not the end of the world. How many guys have won 6 slams?

And 2 WTF? And 2 consecutive year ends at #1? And master titles in the double digits? And an Olympic medal? And a DC title? It's a pretty good career by any standard.

As a novak fan, RG matters to me more than anything else now.By now Djoker realizes how difficult it can get to beat Nadal. But I'm confident he can next time.

It's really not that big of a deal except the Nadal fans have become incredibly insufferable and are desperate to discredit Roger and Novak. I wish we could all just respect them all and not descend into this rampant fanboyism that is honestly, destroying the forum.

Djokovic just winning once would be enough. If he beat Nadal doing it.....then he is a better CC than Federer.

Beating Nadal at RG should be as good as a RG title.

Sucks.....I am fan of Djokovic but not as much as Federer.

Still this match hurts way more than the Tsonga match. Federer was too old and Tsonga was burning.

Nadal was there for the taking....Djokovic just went away in the 3rd and the 5th set was ridiculous being up a break.....if only he broke at 4-1 :( :(

Somebody will beat Nadal eventually at the FO but he looked pretty good out there to me today.

It could have gone either way. Rafa tbh got lucky. Both were brave and clutch, BUT rAFA got the luck. Next time I'm sure your guy may snatch one from Rafa's clutches.

Great match. Sad that Nole lost...
He played to about 95% of his abillities, while Nadal managed to pull off 105% performance, yet it still came to a very close finish of the 5th set.
100% Nole wins.

I'm a Nadal fan first but Djokovic is my 2nd favorite of all time. I was just as gutted for Novak as I was happy that Nadal won. Novak, to me, is the ultimate competitor, sportsman, and athlete. He's the ONLY one I want to win RG besides Nadal.

I know it's just tennis and just a match but y'all keep y'all head up. Djokovic will rise again.

Novak has earned lots of respect from Fed fans, including me, for the way he fights, mental tenacity, etc.,

Not only it is a vested interest to protect Fed's records, but more importantly Novak has a nice game and he is an all court player like Federer and has been knocking on the doors for so long. He will get at least one FO. As he ages, i think he will win more clay than hard.

It is heartbreaking that he is losing another 5 setter after the USO loss last year, but console yourself looking at the future. He will get close to 10 majors.

The conditions were perfect for Nadal and Djokovic still almost won it. Djokovic is clearly the better overall player when include different conditions and surfaces overall. Just hot and dry with clay is the biggest challenge for Djokovic.

It is all about your emotions and your virtual relations with images in your head. You feel bad about yourself and your broken fantasies, not about some Eastern European multi-millionaire losing 4 tennis points to some Western European multi-millionaire.

They will be fine. And then they will die, and things will go on as usual.

Take a lesson from them and go take care of your own life. Get better at what you do. Beat your real competition. At the end of the day, "N.", "F.", "D." are just words and faces of people very distant from you, one of them is always going to write his name in the history book no matter what; the book does not get upset, so you probably should not either.

It's mentally crushing for Novak (and I was very disappointed as well) but at least I like Rafa too and he very much deserved the win. Novak will get a few more chances and I really do hope he gets to complete the career slam set next year.

Gutted for him. I just knew Rafa would still be favourite, even when he went a break down in the fifth. Hes getting closer and closer, maybe next year.

So sad guys. thank you for making this. Hopefully he takes out the positives from this and doesn't let Nadal retake #1

Djoko showed he can compete with rafa 5 hours on clay,
he was so close while Nadal played GREAT.
There is no gap beetwen these two on clay anymore, and thats great news for Djoko.

Really no reasons to be sad, we had great match, both guys played phenomenal, this rivarly is getting bigger with every match and its pleasure to watch them.
