Well truth still has to be said, pleasant or unpleasant :) it doesn't mean MIA racquets were not high quality, it just means they as well had manufacturing specs variance.
I

The truth is unpleasant, although they both play great. So for me one of them is unusable since I don't like heavy static weight and low SW :(

I've got one shadow font pt630 (it had CAP grommets) and one older startrek pt630 (it had non CAP grommets). Both MIA.

I put new non CAP grommets with same weight on both and replaced grips with 2 overgrips. But I found they play differently. I measured weight, balance and swingweight. What I found surprised me. Shadow fonts version has some silicon in handle and is more HeadLight. Both sticks have same weight. And despite this shadow font stick has significantly more SW329 and startrek version only SW312.

I didn't try to remove silicone from shadow font version but I think this shouldn't change SW a lot since this stick presumably has more weight at the tip of the head.

Full final specs in 2 columns:

shadow / startrek
----------------------------
weight: 340g / 339g
balance: 31.5cm / 32.2cm
SW : 329 / 312

What is it? Manufacturer tolerance fault or these two kinds of hairpins have inherent different specs?
Think about it. The Star Trek font came with traditional grommets (without CAP grommets) and shadow font came with CAP system grommets. Of course the specs will be different when you remove the CAP Gronnets from the shadow font

Exactly. That's why the Radical Tour 630 becomes a sledgehammer when CAPPed.

Suddenly happy I made sure to buy only the ones with the same font that I already had...

I didn't measure SWs before modifications, but the difference was more pronounced (I did an extended playtest). The shadow font version still has heavier SW even after I removed CAP grommets. We could expect opposite.

Is it possible I've got a PT57A under shadow font PJ with, for example, modified hoop? Are there any PT57A painted as PT630? This stick with shadow font has silicon in handle and had #4 pallets glued without using regular manufacturer tape.

Next stringing session I'm going to remove grommets again and check holes in hoop. May be the stick has silicon in hoop too.

Apart from stringing looser-

Any strings in particular- poly or nylon based/multi- which really open up the power potential of the 630?

Maybe the kevlar got to my head a bit lol - I would love to match the power to a pure strike I've been playing with with mid/high tension poly. The ball very easily jumps to the back court with heavy spin. The feel is atrocious though and at best symbolic, the quality of shots feel good for the ego but not the arm...

I haven't used a multi in like 10+ years, could be worth it in upper 50s low 60s?

Which gauge? I saw in another thread you are using 16?

I have pondered 15g for durability...

I have used natural gut only a handful of times and actually only on some PS85s like 10 years ago. Amazing stuff but broke super fast.

If this Rad Tour 630 makes it over on the plane with me without breaking a string, you can try it. It's got Babolat gut in the mains.

The designed in Austria Pt280s are all made in China?
No, The ones with HEAD Barcode Label Inside written on the same side as Designed in Austria were manufactured in Austria and finished in the Czech republic

I'm joining the club! I cleaned the dust off my three Head PT 630/280's (made in Austria with full-caps) earlier this year. Tried a hybrid string job for the first time in these racquets. They play great! Great color on frame, too! I always get compliments.

I found a yellow/black Head Radical Tour 260 Trisys with regular grommets. It's MIA. It's Midplus with 18x20 string pattern which is clearly visible on photo. But the throat says 16x19. Is the stick real?

I know of a similar error on some Prestige 600 "silver-green"...I have one with 16x19 string pattern indication.

I think someone had too many beers when they made one of my Rad Tours. I managed to get two of them to the same static weight of 339g with base synthetic grip. A third one weighs 339g with bare pallets. No silicone under the buttcap. Last possibility is lead under the bumper. Or, Happy Hour in Kennelbach.

There are large variations... mine come to about 373g strung, with leather grip, overgrip and dampener...

Is that with or without CAPs?

Without CAPS... Actually, apologies... it has two overgrips as it's a 4 3/8 and I play with 4 1/2... same as my Zebra

I might lower that by a couple of grams by replacing the dampener with a rubber band... but prefer to keep the leather grip (OEHMS Tan Premium leather - very nice) as it helps change the balance a bit...

That's still an insane spec considering there are no CAP grommets. With a leather grip, overgrip caps and rubber band the heaviest stock PT I've had was 355g.

I think @PT630Wannabe was talking about his Rad Tours... and I responded to that message... so mine was about my Rad Tours as well... although my PT630 might be close as well, but has CAPS...

I know but still!! I never owned a stock racket period which was that heavy (maybe a PC6.1 but I remember that in 360s)

Just played with my recently acquired PT 280 yesterday and wow now I know what all the hype is about. I've been a 6.1 user for over 20 years and finally got tennis elbow so was looking for a softer racquet. I'm a bit of a racketaholic myself and tried practically every classic player's racquet and all the "latest greatest" stuff but the 280 is seriously the best racquet I've ever used. It has it all, feel, control, comfort, forgiveness, and surprisingly had decent power and spin. I even tried the PT57 clone which has been hyped on these forums and it doesn't even come close sorry to say. Head really should bring the 280 back.

Yes. HEAD would make money, hand over fist. It's so messed up.

Guys, where can I buy new PT280 grommets?
Jaime

If you want traditional grommets, MG Radical MP will work. So will first generation Youtek Radical MP but the white touches aren't for everyone. For CAP grommets any of the Prestige MP grommets will work.

Do PT630s still have a good resale value on these boards?

I...might be done with mine over here...

Well, unfortunately I'll have to tell you they have a very low resale value here these days. To console you, I wouldn't mind taking them off your hands (I'll pay for shipment).

I just bought 2 PT-280s. My best guess is that these were manufactured in China models. They have old synthetic gut in them, but I'll probably end up trying a poly main/synthetic gut cross hybrid on them.

I used to play Head MP LM Radical, so I want to compare the feel to that racquet.

CAPS grommet (it says TK57 on the grommet)
353g - (strung weight with Fairway leather grip)

Anyone know how old this version is?

Just got an old Pro Tour 630 from my friend. It's a bit scuffed up, but seems to play fine.
It had an old beat up grip on it, so I removed it and put a black Fairway leather grip on it.
Some unknown, cheap poly string in it. Hit a few groundstrokes with it and was pleasently surprised by the comfort and loud thud the racquet makes when you hit a groundstroke.

From reading this thread, am I correct to assume the Head Graphene XT Prestige MP Grommet will fit it?

Hit some groundstrokes for about 10 minutes yesterday with my PT630.

Had just played a couple sets of doubles with my Yonex 95D.

The launch angle of the PT630 seems to be a lot lower than the 95D. Also less power and spin. I think one of the reasons is that the previous owner had it strung with poly at a really high tension. I have not had a chance to restring it yet.

My 95D was just string with Volkl Cyclone 16 at 55lbs main / 53 lbs cross.

The PT630’s tension feels really tight. Maybe 60s. I will try restringing with synthgut since my reel of volkl just ran out. Just ordered a couple reels of volkl cyclone 17 and Solinco TB from TW.

Might try a putting in some inexpensive gut, also.
