Dunlop balls in under 50 degrees won't bounce 5' high at the backwall even with Isner serving. Especially slick painted cement courts.
I love this thread. Lots of you guys are saying I'm serving 6' high at the backwall, 120 on my twist second serves, and move like Edbergy.
Show you how tennis savvy you are. A 4.0 doing that.

I'm going out on a limb here and predict the savvy veteran in 3 tie-breaks. Neither contestant's serve shall be broken, you guys going all Isner-style on monday!
In the end, experience wins over youth - after all, LeeD is one of TT's most decorated war horses, eh, warriors. The guy has street smarts and knows how to get dirty and get it done.

Them veterans know all the tricks. Lee will arrange a deal with maxima this weekend : a girlfriend in exchange for throwing the match. I believe that's max's kryptonite?

You guys all excited for "Pandemonium in the Park"?
This transcends the board, as I've said in the other thread. It took a self-confident, young, up-and-comer to get the wily bionic battler to put his 32,000+ posts on the line.

The string selections are done--mikeler can't help you now. Your racquet is strung--Drakulie can't help you now. The tips and technique suggestions from out of the unknown won't help either -- even the "sureshs" methods. The state of Nadal's injury makes no difference to the outcome. It's time to stop the talk and walk the walk.

They're on their own, on a real court with nowhere to hide, with whatever equipment they've prepared, and all of Talk Tennis is a stage.

The next time you go to play, remember, think to yourself, "What would I be doing if Maximagq or LeeD were my opponent?" Can you handle the pressure?

There's your motivation to practice, practice, practice....and buy more goodies from TW. :)

The Lee d of "I can still get a game or two off an wta pro because I won't play hard baseline bashing but would rather hit first strike tennis and lefty twist serves" is cowering in fear of a rec 4.5 player. What happened leeD?

I am surprised the odds for LeeD are only 6/1. But who am I to argue with the sports book?

Cowering.
I already said I expect to get to duece at least 4 games a set, meaning at least on most of my service games. I expect a set would go 6-2 or 3.
HE will have to come up with real solid 4.5 + passing shots.
I just have to hit my normal volleys and serve somewhat decent.
Some days, the serve goes off, but who can predict that?

If you can get 2 games off a wta pro I expect you to beat Maxx mag a 4.5.

Arche3, did you see that vid of the 4.0 pusher vs the 6.5 rusty girl?
Even HE get's two games off a WTA pro.
Guess what? If he played Matt Lin, he would get double bagelled.
Assuming you do play tennis, you would know that.

For all of your false bravado, you know the pressure has already gotten to you. And it is only going to build between now and match time. From the tone and content of your posts, your front is obviously crumbling.

The girl wasn't rusty. She just played a tournament before the video and was tired and bored. She did what she had to to win. If she actually played she would double bagel the 4.0. I know 12 year old kids that double bagel 4.0 men.
If you actually played tennis you would know the level of a wta pro. No way you get 2 games unless she let's you.

My front.
I rated Matt as a solid 4.5.
Seldom have I rated myself any better than "middlin" 4.0.
Where the front?

you claimed as recent as a few months ago 4.5 singles and 5.0 doubles. And at times you claimed 4.0 singles. And now your claiming 4.0 doubles and I'm assuming 3.5 singles. And last week you claimed to beat a ex atp 200 in doubles.

Your back tracking because your afraid what the video will show. A 65mph serve and 3.5 skills.

Arche, don't lie to make your point.
I never claimed "4.5" in singles. Yes, I did, in 1978 and '79, but that's not what you're talking about.
Since I turned 30, it's been 4.0. That was 35 years ago.
As for Malcolm and Tracy, sorry, it did happen, and I saw Tracy today about 2 hours ago, and he said..."we gotta hit someday", as he was walking over to teach his lesson.

Generous on your part. I'm not sure he will manage to get 2-3 games off you per set.

i've seen an older guy beating a young 4.5 before. Actually, I was shocked when I heard the score. A 6-2 beating. Older guy was a pusher who could hit amazing drop shots. 4.5 young guy had a big serve, a big forehand but they were not enough to beat the old guy.

While it's possible an old fart can win against a young gun 4.5, it's not going to happen in this particular case.
Here, old fart cannot run, so he cannot be effective as a pusher.
And, old fart is a self confessed 4.0, not having the weapons to beat 4.5's.

Happens in ping-pong too. You have an old guy that just keeps everything coming back - but there's much less room to cover in ping-pong.

A guy was hitting high sliced shots to me this afternoon in practice. I use my Andy Murray approach to these shots. Approach the ball with room to move forward. Get very low and then move forward and up into the ball to hit a nice, heavy topspin ball back. Repeat over and over and over again.

If you have a pusher that isn't in the best of shape, then they may get frustrated themselves. There is the option to put these balls away if they are short too.

actually most of the time he has claimed that he was a "falling 4.0". most of his (indeed suspect) stories date back 20-30 years.

Dom1985....
Think of this.
In 1978, I was 28 years old, had played tennis seriously for 4 years, my doubles partner was No.2 for CCSF (D-3). What level would that be?
Now, I"m 65, having broken my tib/fib 3 times, all needing surgery, 4 total collarbone breaks, two left shoulder separations, and I"m a 4.0 now at 65.
Can you use your brains? What level do you think I used to play at?

The older guy I spoke about is like a character from a Jin Yong novel:
he often would play with 1.5 to 2.0 players. One day, my hitting partner told me, that guy was the best player here. I told him you've got to be to joking, that guy only plays with beginners! Later on i realized it's true. His strokes remind me of Miloslav Mecir. Not very strong but very effective. He has unbelievable ball control and can put away the ball at the net. The 4.5 guy had no chance.

We should agree that old fart plays with "3.0" to "3.5" players, since around here, a 2.5 is a first day beginner.
Yes, there are guys around who play sets with beginner level players, the handicapped, and whotnot, but they also play with their peers, just we didn't see those instances.

Here in the USA, a first day beginner starts at 2.5, so there is no 1.5 or 2.0's in tennis in the United States.

5.0

This player has good shot anticipation; is able to overcome some stroke deficiencies with outstanding shots or exceptional consistency; will approach net at opportune times and is often able to force an error or make a winning placement; can execute lobs, drop shots, half-volleys, and overhead smashes with above average success; is able to vary the spin on the serve; plays well enough to reach the high school state tournament (beyond sectional tournaments) in singles or doubles; is skilled enough to compete on many Division III college teams.

5.5

This player is able to execute all strokes offensively and defensively; can hit first serves for winners and second serves to set up an offensive situation; plays well enough to be a top performer at the state high school championship level; is skilled enough to play college tennis on top Division II & III teams.

6.0

This player has mastered all of the above skills; is able to hit both slice and topspin serves; can vary strategies and styles of play in competitive situations; plays well enough to be a state high school champion, hold a national ranking, and be offered a Division I tennis scholarship.

Would be interesting to post a poll about this subject.
For sure, I know most of my buds consider a 2.5 as a first day beginner, there are no 1.0's or 2.0's.

Mr. Lob, can you make singles of a good high school team?
Yeah... pretty sure I could. Though can't say I've seen too much of high school tennis to know for sure.

A strong 4.0 friend of mine recently said my game has improved 15% from the last time I played him... about 5 months ago. I'd say closer to 20-25% in the last year. Play about 3 times a week. Getting more points off serves, can hit cross court or down the line winners. Hit a nice drop slice, the kind fed hits, a week ago. Twas a beaute. Mentality sliding from pusher to more attacking style of play.

A month ago, I watched two high schooler from over the hill, like WalnutCreek and Danville. Private clubbers, of course.
One WON the BerkeleyCityOpen in the Open division, the other lost to the winner in the 2nd round.
Caveat, none of the regular Open level players entered that event. Another is scheduled sometime in Oct.
Kid looked like a real D-1 propect.

Haha a lot of posters are treating this event like a wedding. Youthful brashness and elder experience (or some would say senility). Booming lefty serve, gliding righty movement. Relentless attack, brick wall defense.
