@stringertom 's castaways need a home after age 19.:(
http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/the-official-teenage-tennis-talent-thread.531695/

Teens don't stand a chance in the modern era, so "let's track the next crew of talent here and see if we have any emergence from this already crowded candidates to give us something to cheer for through the rest of this decade and into the Roaring 20's."

Players simply aren't emerging until much later with the high bouncing power baseline of today requiring great strength. Many post teens like Tomic, Kyrgios, and Thiem already have their own threads and following, but what of the following:
Thanasi Kokkinakis (20) - what happens to Kokk post shoulder surgery? (ranked 446)
Borna Coric - turns 20 November 14, but floundering in the rankings now and having to qualify for Montreal.
Hyeon Chung (20) - fallen off tremendously. Is he done?
Karen Khachanov (20) - huge talented player from Russia (ranked 104)
Yoshihito Nishioka (20) - quietly climbing the rankings to 93 and a great returner and baseliner
Adam Pavlasek (21)- ranked 116 and never heard of him.
Kyle Edmund (21) - quietly making a big move up the rankings and in Davis Cup (ranked 68)
Bjorn Fratangelo (22) - took a set off Djokovic recently (ranked 108)
Jordan Thompson (22) - Australian (ranked 90)
Lucas Pouille (22) - surging up the rankings and is currently 17th in the ATP Race with a big Davis Cup win over Vesely.
Jiri Vesely (just turned 23) - with big serves and returns knocked off Thiem and Djokovic recently (49th in ATP race)

Goffin, Raonic, Herbert and other fans welcome. The theme is players improving and moving up rankings. Even Cuevas is fair game who just hit a career high ranking at age 30. Even Youngerer's recent positives worthy of comment.:D

Help out with your updates or corrections on stringer's emissions!;)

Pouille:
1ea1f.jpg

The one to watch coming into the hard court season. Pouille got a lucky break in Rome as he came in as a lucky loser into the 2nd round and then got a walkover to an ATP 1000 semi. He's capitalized on seeding at the last two majors and displayed some surprisingly great tennis at Wimbledon. An unbelievably clutch player who recently knock of Goffin in Madrid with something like 14 straight big first serves in play at the end of the match (final hold from 0-40 and tiebreaker.) Pouille's straight sets Davis Cup win two days ago against Vesely in Czech territory signals he may be ready to capitlized on his high ranking over the North American hard court season.

Pouille recently relocated from the clutches of the French Tennis Federation to Dubai:
http://sport360.com/article/tennis/...s-pouille-credits-uae-move-for-wimbledon-run/

He's getting leaner and faster and its hard to say when he'll stop improving as he's already 17th in this year's ATP race.

OP's avi is gonna be better than the bunch of them...seen by the blind hog first and met personally, including being commissioned for contribution to his teenage progress. Shapo to be celebrated in the teenage thread along with the blind hog's other youthful "emissions" and in his own thread. The rest of them are all fighting for second place.

Yes. Leftan has been cursed by the Blind Hog; its official.

I'm predicting in about three years he'll slip past the Blind Hog to this thread and greatness.:D Shaps better be on Centre at Citi tomorrow.

Ugh. That's 4th banana. I really doubt it. He better win so we can see him in the next match.:D We may be reliant on TTW live reporting, best request that in the match thread.

Khachanov d Kohlschreiber 4 and 4. Nice win for him!
Thanks for the update. I had an eye on that one. Thiem has his own thread, but officially 0-1 on clay for July 2016 and moving on to hard courts. Khachanov might have a shot at the title.

Elias Ymer has strung together two tight 3-set wins over veterans Brands and Kravchuk by identical 2-6 7-6 7-5 scores and will play #1 seed FeLo in the QFs at Gstaad on Friday.

I can't believe they're dragging this tournament out through Sunday with Toronto starting the very next day.

I agree. Pouille looking good lately. Very solid play in the Davis Cup following up his Wimbledon run.

Huh;

On 11 July, Zverev became the youngest player to break into the Top 30 of the Emirates ATP Rankings since Rafael Nadal in March 2005.

Cheers

He's still a teen, but seems to have graduated from stringer's fine thread. Wow. That is impressive. I believe his superlative first returning on grass will follow him onto the hard courts and Sascha may really break out and should have a thread of his own, but his chief booster has been slacking, @veroniquem .;)

Wow. That's what this thread is about. Ymer hadn't won an ATP level match in 15 months. I'd written him off, but now who knows.

Jordan Thompson won his first round match, but then got nudged out by Dolgo in a 3rd set tiebreaker at the Citi Open.
Coric won his first match at the Citi in the 2nd round over Sugita.
Vesely retired against Berlocq in UMAG.:(

Quinzi is a player I had a lot of high hopes for to add another post teen to the teen watch list.

Pouille has really impressed me lately and his game is great to watch as well.

Chung is so annoying to follow. On live-tennis every player's schedule is listed except his. Once in a blue moon some challenger comes up. I get the feeling he's barely playing any tournaments. Just checked and his last one was Roland Garros. What the hell was he doing during the grass season which is supposed to be one of his better surfaces? Injured? Resting? Lack of motivation? Thinking of retiring? Who can tell?

I haven't heard anything about Quinzi after beating Chung in the junior W final. Never really liked his game either tbh.

Chung is not on the schedule for anything. His ranking is going to plummet. He's got to be playing Olympics so maybe that explains the schedule.:p

The post teenage talent took a bit of a hit today:
Lajovic eliminat Khachanov at Kitzbuhel.
Monfils crushed Coric at the Citi Open.
The ray of hope is Elias Ymers who after a 15 month draught will be going for this 3rd ATP tour level win in a row againts Feliciano Lopez.

On the post teenage talent front the big story is Yoshihito Nishioka's run in Atlanta to the semis where he gave Kyrgios a nice run. On the way Yoshi knocked off a hot Daniel Evans and Dolgopolov in 3 sets.

Fratangelo lost to Fritz in three sets in the 2nd round. Kyrgios was almost the elder statesman of the Atlanta semis, but Fritz failed against Isner.

Pouille is already practicing at the Real Slam (Cincy):

Nishioka's run was in ATP250 Atlanta. His points from the SF run bumped him to NCH #85. He is seeded #2 in the Aptos CA Challenger this week and plays American Evan King later today.

Lots of post-teens in action at the six Challengers underway in Europe, Asia and NA. Maybe OP will update us with results and clarify when post-teen status expires...age 23?; age 30???

Totally missed this thing 'til now. Totally following now
Post and keep the thread going.

Edmund just got dumped at the Olympics by Taro Daniels.:(
Kokk almost won his first comeback match at the Olympics losing narrowly to Ellias 7-6, 7-6. I'm not sure how his schedule will go from here given his ranking has slipped below 400.

Streching the boundaries of this thread, but Goffin heading for collision with Rafa at RIO QFs. Herbert and Mahut went down first round in RIO doubles.
Edmund took out Thompson round 1 Olympics.

Well it never expires for those who want to post on players that don't have their own match threads. This is a thread for talent on the rise, so a player like Goffin or even Raonic is fair game.

I would say post teen generally is age 20-24. Goffin and Raonic should have threads of their own and Kyrgios for that matter who just nicely deposed three time champion Isner for the Atlanta crown. The OP took a look at players in the top 200 or so.

My thoughts on this thread are that the mighty and impressive teenage talent thread is a bit early for determing greatness for some of these players. Pouille stands out as a player who really did not do much until age 22. If a player hasn't done much by age 24 I'd say they will be at best a journeyman. Millman is a nice player that fits this description. A player like Herbert did not do much until almost 24 years of age and now is one of the top doubles players at age 25. Greatness is not determined in the teen years, though it exciting to see players like Shavopalov on the rise. Zverev is the top teen, but we won't know for sure how great he will be until he's much older. On today's tour greatness won't happen until the post teen years.

The duopoly of Goffin/Kyrgios do have their own threads ("The Renaissance of David Goffin", started in the midst of his long unbeaten Challenger run and subsequent Kitzbuhel'14 title over ThiemDomi; and "Young St. Nick, The Cure For Aussie Tomic Ache", was originated after his 1R RG'13 upset of The Worm). Bookmark them and post there if you choose.

Raonic has had threads of his own too and is part of the L O S T Boys thread about The Ninja, The Young Artist and The Missile.

Millman is 27, hardly a post teen.

I think you mentioned Pavlasek in OP...he lost today to fellow Czech Michalika in the Slovakia Challenger. That's just a taste of post teen (20-24 let's say) action today at the level most of these developing players with enough potential to pull a Pouille and seriously crack the top 50 are competing at.

Do your homework, post their results and discuss. How about the battle of 20-year-olds in Slovenia, a rout for a racist Russian? Or the Slovak in Slovenia with a pair of breadsticks and poised to move very near the top 100 with a title this week? This is a guy who has a MS1000 match win over previously mentioned Herbert and took an in-form ThiemDomi to two TBs in the next round. Do you know his name???

Sorry. I'm not digging through the challenger events for players that might peek in the top 100. Pavlesk is ranked 114 and playing almost exclusively Challengers. At this stage these players need to be playing ATP level events. I am watching those events. Happy to note Pavlesk when he breaks into that level. Millman is an example of this at age 27 and not planning to cover Millman.

Nobody is posting in the Goffin or Kyrgios threads much. Tomic is well covered.

This week got off to a great start with Pouille challenging Kygrios in the best form I've ever seen him in a match. Kygrios snagged a nice break at the end of the 2nd and sadly we didn't get a third set. Very, very high level of tennis in this match and it makes me think back to the Raonic/Kyrgios first round match at Queens; luck of the draw Kyrgios 6-2, 7-5. Kyrgios on course for possible Nadal encounter in R16.

Vesely has come through Qualifiers and is in a very workable section of the draw with Granollers and then Berdych for the 2nd round. Post teen Thiem is playing the event as 8th seed. Tomic there too.

In Qualifiers for the Real Slam, Edmund was knocked out by Sugita. A very tight week for the post teens, but Winston-Salem awaits where Kokkinakis is on the alternate list and some others.

Perhaps in Japan they bloom very late; Sugita into R16 at Cincy with wins over Zverev and Mahut in the same day.
Near post teen Coric knocks out Kyrgios in 3 sets.
Vesely lost to Granollers in 3 sets.
Tomic beat Goffin in 3 sets today and Thiem had solid win over Millman and got walkover over Monfils to boot.

So Guru first beats Baggy, then says **** it I'm out of here 5 minutes later?

Anyway, bad news for Thiem, he could've used a good lesson, and he doesn't deal well with walkovers. But then maybe that is the lesson for today

Here the day of rest should be an advantage on the field in theory.

C Ruud deserves a mention. The 17yo winning his first ATP challenger title now in Sevilla in his first ever challenger tournament, going through the qualifying and beating 3 top 100 players on his way. He was around number 500 before the tournament but will move up to around 280 on Monday.

Hey morten, I think you posted this in the wrong thread. This is the "post teenager" thread. I think you meant to post it over here in the teenager thread:

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/inde...l-teenage-tennis-talent-thread.531695/page-43

We've already been discussing Ruud's great performance over there.
