In Umag, Molleker needed three sets to advance to final qualies round, where he will play #8 seed Attila Balázs on Monday. Main draw starts there tomorrow as well and the WC Sinner will play his 1R match vs Pedro Sousa.

Shintaro Mochizuki wins the Wimby’19 Boys title with a comprehensive 3&2 defeat of Carlos Gimeno Valero in the Sunday final.

The Czech mates Jonas & Jiri (Forejtek/Lehecka) captured the doubles title over the Can-Am tandem of Liam Draxl/Govind Nanda, 5&4.

Congrats to all!
I was impressed with Mochizuki's social media post in English....

He seems like a likeable young man.
It must be so difficult to speak in English if you are from a country that uses a different alphabet. I've also always wondered how the Greeks and Eastern Europeans did it as well.

The swoosh knows no boundaries and that particular swoosh is as big as I have ever seen. Phil Knight keeps doing it bigger!

Sinner made a mess of his first eight games before turning around a set and a break deficit into a 1-6 6-3 6-4 win over Pedro Sousa. Bedene is next in 2R.

Molleker was dusted in 2R qualies by Attila Balázs 2&4. Must hope for LL.

Sinner went out 2R at Umag ATP250 and now heads across the Atlantic for HC Challengers as he approaches his 18th birthday inside the top 200 for now.

In Challenger action, the remaining teen in action in QFs of the four tournaments is Sebastian Korda at the Kazakh site Nur-Sultan. He has beaten the #2 and #10 seeds Giustino and Viola and will play #14 seed Alexander Vukic (AUS).

The Italian Challenger at San Benedetto featured a handful of teens but Francesco Forti (19, ITA) was the only one to make 3R.

The Canadian Challenger at Gatineau featured WC Canadian teen Liam Draxl win a 1R match before exiting in a 2R match in three sets.

The Dutch Challenger at Amersfoort saw two teen WCs (Dutch De Jong and Dane Rune) win their 1R matches to join #8 seed teen Nicola Kuhn in 2R but the trio all failed to advance.

An excellent run by the 19-year-old American Sebastian Korda at this week's Challenger tournament in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, took him all the way to today's final where he took on the top seed Evgeny Donskoy. The Russian emerged the winner after a close three-set match, 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4.

Another teen ATP level win, this time for Miomir at the ATP250 Atlanta Open over WC Jack Sock in the former top 10 player’s return to action after tearing thumb ligaments so badly he still has problems brushing his teeth or opening a bottle right handed.

Two TBs to the teen.

And then there was just one: after both Popyrin and Kecmanovic bail in the Atlanta QFs, only CH Tseng has made it to the weekend. The 2x junior slam champion in 2018 has made it to the SF at the Prague Challenger and will play Frederico Ferreira Silva (POR) on Saturday. All four of his wins have been three-set battles and he took out the #1 seed Andrej Martin in the 2R.

Not to be for Leylah today who seemed to be out of gas. She may be in line for a MD WC at Rogers moving up to 250th in the rankings.

Three teens at ATP500 Washington and two will be in 2R action...seeded #9, Félix Auger Aliassime enjoys a bye before playing either Reilly Opelka or Christopher Eubanks on Wednesday; the other two teens play each other 1R on Tuesday when Alexei Popyrin plays his last week as a teen (he’s turning 20 on August 5) and faces Miomir Kecmanovic.

At ATP250 Kitzbuhel, neither Austrian teen qualifiers receiving WCs made main draw. Dominic Thiem’s younger brother Moritz lost 1R but Sandro Kopp made it final stage and could receive a LL slot if fortunate.

At ATP250 Los Cabos there were no teen participants in MD or qualifying.

At Challenger level:

Lexington

#3 Jannik Sinner enjoys a 1R bye and will play Alexey Zakharov (RUS)

Sebastian Korda advanced to 2R and will play #14 seed JC Aragone (USA)

Liam Draxl (CAN) plays Keegan Smith (USA) 1R Tuesday.

Two American teen WCs (Ronald Hohmann and Toby Kodat lost 1R.

More details on Segovia, Chengdu, Sopot and Liberec to follow.

Another good performance earlier today from Chun-hsin Tseng who this week is playing in the Challenger tournament in Sopot, Poland. In first-round action the 17-year-old South Korean defeated the Norwegian no. 2, Victor Durasovic, 6-3, 6-4, and next faces Russian Alexey Vatutin, the no. 11 seed.

Lots of teenage British players in action this week at the ITF tournament being held outdoors on hard courts in Roehampton, London, where it is very windy and rather wet today. Participants include Jack Draper, Paul Jubb and Aidan McHugh. A couple of weeks ago Jack Draper took part in one of the ITF tournaments in Cancun, Mexico where, as the top seed, he reached the semi-finals of the singles event before losing to the eventual champion, Justin Roberts of The Bahamas. At the same tournament Draper won the doubles event with Nicolas Mejia of Colombia. In Roehampton, Draper is playing doubles with Paul Jubb.

At Sopot today in a battle of Polish WCs, the teen Daniel Michalski outlasted his much older countryman Michal Pryzsiezny. He joins teen CH Tseng in 2R.

At Segovia today, #5 seed Nicola Kuhn advanced to 3R with his straight set win.

At Liberec, the Hungarian teen Zsombor Piros fought hard to upset last week’s Prague Challenger champion Mario Vilella Martinez.

At Chengdu, my heart was broken to see Indian teen native of Chennai Manish Sureshkumar lost his 1R match.

At least Sabooshs’ older protégé Gunneswaranreshs won 1R Los Cabos.

http://instagr.am/p/BcmXrBFAjwy/ I like how his strokes look, FH has a classical prep and follow through compared to his big bro. I wonder if he was just exaggerating the follow through for training purpose to ensure he drives the ball instead of creating too much topspin. He has opted for the one hander as well and it looks pretty good but how does his strokes hold up in a match? Anyone see hm play yet? Time will tell if he will be another next gen with GS potential.

My heart was broken when his Drop Volleys(TM) repeatedly hit the net. He clearly does not have the elegance that his name suggests.

Wondering if his first name should have a double "n".

Rain on Tuesday prevented any play at the ITF tournament in Roehampton, London, so all of the players involved in the singles event have had to play two matches today. Among the teenagers, Jack Draper beat the qualifier Edward Hubner in the first round, 6-1, 6-1, then won the first set 6-0 in his second round match against another qualifier, Marcus Walters; in the second set Draper had a hiccup and lost it 1-6, but recovered to take the third set and the match 6-0, 1-6, 6-1. In the quarter-finals he will face fellow Englishman Mark Whitehouse, the no. 7 seed.

Paul Jubb, the no. 2 seed and Draper's doubles partner at this tournament, is also through to the quarter-finals of the singles event, where he will take on another Englishman, the wildcard Charles Broom. All of the singles quarter-finals and all of the first-round doubles matches are scheduled to take place on Thursday.

At ATP500 Washington, Kecmanovic rallied from a set down and a 3rd set break down to edge Herbert in a 3rd set TB. Félix is locked into a 3rd set showdown with Reilly Opelka and on serve midway with few points yielded on serve for either.

At Lexington, #3 Sinner completed his rain-delayed 2R match with a comeback win but Sebastian Korda was eliminated.

At Liberec, WC Czech teen Tomas Machac has advanced to 3R but Zsombor Piros was eliminated.

At Sopot, both Tseng and Michalski were beaten in 2R.

To be fair, Kecmanovic also had a 3rd set break he just gave away. Has some work to do. Good on him for beating a seed, though!

Three teens in Challenger SFs is a good week.

Sinner looked very strong in spurts tonight against a scrappy Duckhee Lee, who was outgunned into submission in the end. His pluck to even play out the third set after Sinner killed his legs was admirable. 4-6 6-3 6-1.

Tomas Machac’s run to the SF in Liberec came to a crashing halt, losing 3&0 to the veteran Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva (a year shy of twice Machac’s age).

Nicola Kuhn advanced to the Segovia final with a 2&2 win over the Swede Markus Ericksson. He will play Russian youngster (20) Pavel Kotov tomorrow.

Jannik Sinner is scheduled for the second SF at Lexington. The first SF is just now underway.

Should be up to a new personal best ranking when the 20points are added. Going forward I would think he needs to improve his second serve assuming today was typical.

Quick update: Brooksby took out Geller 6-2 and 6-3 in the QF yesterday, and followed that up by beating 20 year old Lebanese tennis player Hady Habib 6-3 and 6-2 in the SF reaching the final against 20 year old Argentine Santiago Fa Rodriguez Taverna (these hispanic names lol). If he wins tomorrow, he'll have his 3rd ITF M25 title of the season, which would tie for second most on the tour.

Brooksby won his second consecutive M25 F, dropping only 1 set in 2 weeks. He finished off Taverna 6-1 and 6-4. Pretty sure he's off to freshman year at Baylor now, so that might be all we see for a while.
