The official unofficial Mizuno Wave Exceed Light thread (2022 NA Summer)

The uppers look like a very airy mesh but lacking the 'jacketed' durability PU protective stuff. I'm not much of a toe dragger like my younger days so that probably wouldn't be an issue personally.

And it has a traditional, padded tongue [yay]. The heel collar is the normal style as the TE4 was. And the outsole is an original pattern they haven't used before.

For $105US this could be a good value shoe for people who don't need too much stability (nor the weight that comes with that requirement) and aren't real hard on their uppers.

Current TW page link,

At first glance I'd say the Boffins from Osaka have provided us with what looks like a hybrid of the prior Tour Exceed 4 and an ASICS Solution Speed FF2 (very initial impressions, mind you).

Let this be the place to ponder and experience this new piece of foot equipment!

I'm also intrigued by these since they have the traditional tongue and same heel from the 4s, plus a supposedly wide fit which would make my feet happy. Big question will be if the cushioning is terrible.

For what it's worth I was able to try these on and they seemed about what you'd expect: an ok shoe, maybe, but more a budget, or slightly taken-down version of the Exceed 4 and 5s. Since I was able to snag one last pair of the Exceed 4s in my size, I'm going to happily roll with those instead for hard court use. These shoes do feel nice with the padded tongue above the foot but the arch is lower than the other Exceeds and the cushioning more minimal (though not terrible), lower to the ground. Width seemed a little bit in between the Exceed 4 and Exceed 5, the latter being the widest feeling of the three to me.

Mizuno seems to have good rearfoot cushioning on their tennis shoes. But forefoot cushioning is minimal compared to a shoe like the Asics GR series. I haven't tried the Exceed 5s, but wonder if Mizuno will address this in their overall product lineup?

Anyone have more experience with these shoes?
I'm considering getting a pair to try to use when I play Doubles, in an attempt to save some of the life left in my 2 remaining Exceed Tour 4s.

I took the plunge and got a pair of these (prefer the cosmetic/tongue over that of the new Tour 5s) to try out.

Definite loss of some stability compared to my Tour 4s, partially because they're so damned light! It feels like wearing thick, cozy socks/booties.
I did put them through the ringer, wore them playing singles while going all out or at least as I usually do. They hold up just fine!
Never felt like I was going to fall or lose footing. They don't stick to the court as sturdily as my Tour 4s do, and there's easier bend.

So for me it's a trade-off between weight and stability (apologies if this is just stating the obvious).
Hopefully this and the Tour 4s I have will last until the Exceed Tour 6s? And I hope they bring back the cushion-y tongue and lose the elfish heel.

@GummiiBear hey, i'm on the look for some lightweight decent priced shoes,
i prefer lighter and faster shoes over "tour" more bulky ones
so these might do. can you just fill me in on any new thoughts? tnx :)
(also your feet arch and width? how many hours you play a week?)

No new thoughts... still one small issue of wondering if my mind just feels like the shoes are lacking in stability because of how much of a contrast there is between them and my Tour 4s. When they actually hold up just fine. May be conflating increased flexibility (range of motion) with decreased stability... I play 5-10 hours a week, averaging ~8-ish.

I don't know about my feet arch, nor width really. Sort of unremarkable, average feet, I think? If not, possibly on the narrow side? I wear Women's Size 7.

Just picked up a pair of these, after wearing out my 5s. Haven't played them yet, but my first thought is that they're heavier than the 5!?

Weighed them just to be sure:
5: 296 g
Light: 351 g
(Both size 11)

I have another pair of 5s coming from the warranty, so I'll just give the lights to my son (after I give them a go).

The fact that the "light" is heavier than the 5 reinforces my appreciation of how good the 5 is.

Update: played w them last night, and they feel more sturdy than the 5. Good support, but don't feel as light and low to the ground as the 5. Think they should switch the names
