The only other American besides Isner to make the 2nd week?

With so many Americans being eliminated/injured I noticed someone that could make a pretty decent run (other than Isner that is).

Sloane Stephens is just past 19 years old and won her last two matches in straights--feeding Mattek-Sands a double breadstick today. She next plays someone ranked in the 90's, albeit a French player, so she has a good chance to win that 3rd rounder and get to the second week.

I haven't seen her play much though. Is she the real deal?

heh. if you haven't seen her play, i'd wager that espn and tennis channel will take care of that little problem for you. you'll be hearing/seeing a lot of her, i'm sure (now that just about every other american is out).

why do you think Isner will make it to the second week? he sucks on clay and he sucks in general.

Dont think you can beat federer on clay and suck on clay :p
yeah, he beat Roger at DC ... (who gives a ****), he beat Djokovic at IW serving like a robot ... Isner is pretty much clueless ... we'll talk when he actually does something at slams, and that's never gonna happen

4th Round will be second week right? I think he'll at least go that far. He only has to beat Mathieu and Granollers......

Don't think he'll get past Ferrer though.

He beat Fed, Tsonga, Simon all on their courts on red clay, last year lost in five to Nads at the FO, so if he "sucks" on clay, then I guess we know the only person in the world who doesn't, oh and he beat Djoker on hard this year, WHOOPS, maybe he doesn't suck that bad.

I could never understand how Isner did well on clay. He's big and slow, and clay won't help him move. He's fairly one-dimensional with a lot a big flat groundstrokes, which should suffer a the slow surface.

sure, he doesn't suck 'that bad' but he still sucks ... what did he win in his life? nothing ... yeah he beat Djoko and then he gets humiliated by Fed in the final of IW.

and that match, against Nadal, he still lost, while Nadal won the title, who really cares?

I do not like his technique at all. all Isner knows is serve, and serve some more ... horrible tennis, so boring to watch ... God, can we get back JMack, Connors, Sampras :)?

Well your in luck, you can catch a replay of Serena's loss, and then talk to me about boring.

The big bouncing groundies that frustrate plenty of guys, are right in his strike zone.

I watched that match and wouldn't say Isner was humiliated. The first set was as close as it can get and the second was just one break. Isner actually played a great tournament and has improved dramatically in his all court game. The reason he does so well on clay is because it's slow enough that its difficult to get anything by the guy (he has the wingspan of a 747). His serve is always tough and now that he has developed the kind of strokes that he displayed in beating Nole at IW, he's a real threat to the top players. He could very well go deep at RG in my opinion.
