Hey pabletion! Me and Chris are currently in our 6th week. The program is amazing! You'll need weights and/or bands, a pull-up bar, and commitment. When it comes to the work-outs, I was doing the full Yoga for the first few weeks, but it's so time consuming I've been substituting it with other exercises.
It's fun working out with a partner because they'll push you that much more. We're not doing the diet, but am making a conscious effort to eat healthier. Be prepared to be really sore. =)

What equipment do you need to do it?
Thanks to anyone whose got input.

i did full p90x (maybe missed 4 days but was playing other sports on the nights) i lost 4 inches and went from 6' 230 down to 197. i did not follow the diet. kept on doing it 3-4 times a week and gained about another 8lbs of muscle.
did insanity 5 days a week for 1 month, didn;t lose any weight or gain muscle but was fit as heck. insanity is putting it mildy.
by the way i was 36 when i started and had never done any fitness workout other than playing my sports, hockey/golf etc..
if i can anybody can

Kana, what physical changes have you and Chris noticed (muscle development, weight loss - not that you need any -, etc.) and how have you incorporated tennis into the schedule? I gave up on it in part because I was too sore to practice
Thanks, Kana!
I get bored just doing Insanity as I miss the strength aspects of P90X too much. Combining both is the way to go for me.

So which do You like better,..P90x or Insanity?,...
What equipment do you need for these two programs, P90X & Insanity?
I haven't done p90x, but have started Insanity. I already have good conditioning, I could play for hours! However after 5 days of insanity, my calves have been sore everyday.
I planned to stick with the program, but I think I plan on doing it on rainy days for excercise or days I can't play tennis. I played today, and my strokes felt a little off and moving laterally was hard.
Like some have said, its great for getting in shape before a season(p90x or insanity), but don't mix it in during. Some lighter cardio and stretching to keep flexibility will keep you from over training your body
As for hybriding the 2, I do plan on substituting the Insanity cardio into the p90x routine, and try a better yoga routine

i think a bit of both is the best, insanity doesn't give your legs a rest and doesn't help your upper body as much.
p90x seems to help more with strength/muscle stamina /recovery
insanity was more geared towards speed/fast twitch/cardio
after doing these, if you stay hydrated you feel like you would never get tired.
also i gained about 4-5 inches of flexabilty(touching toes)

I think that 'blending' of the two according to Your needs/likes is a cool idea. Frankly thats just plain 'intelligent' training. Where I've seen people fail in training routines is an inability to be 'flexible' in their training.I haven't done p90x, but have started Insanity. I may spring for both systems myself..
That High Powered Plyometrics' does look good!!!....I always figure $$ spent on exercise equip is money well spent,....(unless its a useless 'gimmicky 200$ machine to work Your abs or something..)I just got Insanity yesterday and verified that the discs work.
From what I can see scanning the discs, it is basically a cross between aerobics and pylometrics done at a high intensity for 45 minutes to an hour without many breaks.
I just want to shed my last 15 pounds and I was going to start incorporating pylometrics into my workouts, so I thought this might be worth a try. I also noticed that I can sell this on Fbay for $80 or so when I'm done.
I also bought high powered plyometrics dvd and book and that looks promising.

For weight training, I'm sticking with alternating deadlifts and squats with decent weight every other week and just doing a variety of bodyweight stuff on other days.
I think I'll stick with a day or two of 5-8 mile runs at pace as well.
I've never tried P90X, but am considering buying that too for $45 bucks from the link I posted above. Might be worth a try. If not, I can probably get my $45 back anyway.
Yeah,..I hear this,...while i totally appreciate the workout approach,...its not something I wanna do at the local gym, I would totally do it on my own in the privacy of my home.. (still stuck on that macho thingy,..)....a lot of the value of actually 'buying' the DVDs that i see,...is a 'visual' 'how to' to get the moves down and correctly. That, and the dudes in all these programs seem to act like 'personal trainers' giving You that coaxing, 'kick in the butt' (that I could really use right now!!!!!I was watching the videos tonight with my wife. Her mom used to be an aerobics instructor back in the 80's (and a powerlifter in the 114 lb. class, but that's a different story). My wife says that most of these moves are the exact same things she was doing 20 years ago in the aerobics studio. She says that is 90% of it. The other 10% is plyometrics stuff that she started doing with her personal trainer a few years ago.
She was laughing out loud that people are spending $200 bucks on an aerobics workout.
That said, it is really what I want right now. The key (according to my wife) is to learn the moves really well and to keep strict form. Otherwise you are basically wasting your time and just doing cardio (and might as well just run or do the elliptical machines). She was helping me get my form down on some of the moves and telling me where I should be feeling it and what I should be concentrating on.
It's funny because even in the video, the guys seem to look so stupid doing a lot of the stuff while it just looks natural for the women. Just like if you ever see guys try to do aerobics in "real life".
Anyway, I'm going to work on my form for the next week before I actually start doing the program. Otherwise I feel I will be wasting my time.
I think I will start doing the plyometrics from the book / dvd I linked to on Amazon after I complete "Insanity". So sometime in July or I will probably just wait until fall.....see how it goes.
I'm still working on the "Beast Skills" progressions for some of the gymnastic style exercises that site talks about.

I downloaded Insanity tonight just to look at it, but I won't be doing it for at least a month. I know I'm not ready for it. I will be doing Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs though. I like him, he's kind of funny, and I did the cardio routine tonight and liked it.
Beach Body's pushup bars (which Horton claims to have invented)
Shaun T is not funny at all in Insanity.
Here is my experience with the program. Now about to complete my 6th week and played tennis for the first time in months last week. The guy I hit with routinely would beat me and I often had problems holding serve against him. This time around I won the first set 6-2 and we were at 6-6 all in the second when time ran out.
Here's where I saw an immediate impact:
Speed: much faster around the court and tracked down a number of balls that normally would have gotten by me.
Cardio: After almost two hours of tennis I was tired but not fatigued.
Strength: My shots held up pretty well because of the strength I had gained. They weren't more powerful but were more consistent because my technique didn't break down as much.
Serve: There are a lot of shoulder, back and ab exercises in the program. For the first time since I can remember my aces and service winners outnumbered my double faults by a large margin. My technique again did not break down and my confidence in my serve was very high.
I would say that the program is very beneficial to tennis players (and athletes in general) if you have the time to put into it. I've lost over 30 lbs and am close to my college weight (in my mid 30's now). My speed is almost back to the level it was in those days and I'm almost as strong too. Good luck!
I agree with everything in this post. I've just completed 11 weeks. I actually gained close to 10 lbs but the guys I'm working out w/ who are all younger lost weight. I was small and they were big. We are all seeing body transformations.
I've been playing tennis for multiple hours at a time. On two occasions, I've played for 4 hours. I haven't lost a beat. I do get tired in the third hour but this program works. It is time consuming and I worry about keeping it up after week 13. We'll see. I just have to stay motivated as I won't have workout partners like I do now. We are teachers and the school year will come to an end at approx. the same time we complete the program.
FUNNY:
I don't think Tony or Shaun T are funny. Tony is annoying and is anything even said in Insanity? We've mixed in Cardio Abs when we were looking for a change-up to Ab Ripper X. It is tough but no more difficult than P90x. Shaun T just sounds like that coach who says to do things in a forceful (I don't mind) manner like, "Let's go!"
We do laugh at the videos and text each other statements which are funny to P90x insiders. Our favorites:
I'm working hard. I know you are! (said in that weird voice)
Caw! Caw! (like a teradactil coming in for a landing)
Miming a chair.
Our own: Namaste B!tche$ !
I just shot the cover of Downward Dog Magazine!
What are your favorite annoyances?
My favorites:
Let's do it X style!!! (with emphasis on the X)
FIVEFOUR..... THREETWO.... AND
Ab Ripper X... I HATE it... but I LOVE it!!!
They call her BLAM!!!
He's a Sunday workout buddy...
on my 3rd week love the program hope to get into insanity after
I'm considering doing Insanity but we'll see how I finish w/ P90X. The thing I like about the workouts is the variety of exercises. It keeps me from getting bored even though it's hard work. I don't do the pullups because of a bad shoulder but use the bands. They really seem to have helped my shoulder problems and so does all the core work.
you noticing any results yet
