Hey pabletion! Me and Chris are currently in our 6th week. The program is amazing! You'll need weights and/or bands, a pull-up bar, and commitment. When it comes to the work-outs, I was doing the full Yoga for the first few weeks, but it's so time consuming I've been substituting it with other exercises.

It's fun working out with a partner because they'll push you that much more. We're not doing the diet, but am making a conscious effort to eat healthier. Be prepared to be really sore. =)

I started the new year doing the video series that came before it called Power 90. I did that for nearly 50 days and now I'm going into my 6th week of P90x.

I played tennis last Sunday on my day off for 2 hours and I'd felt like I was just finishing my warm-ups. I'd played 3 sets of singles and a groundstroke game and had felt like I was just warming up. I'm 39! I really thought I was just having a good day.

Thursday, I finished the YogaX workout and was invited to play basketball w/ a group that I play w/ on occasion. They are all in there mid 20s and just out of college. I'm also the smallest by far at 5'9" and 170. They avg 6'1" and 190. I used to never get to loose balls and I was getting them. I was still getting beat off of the dribble but it was taking 2-3 moves instead of just a ball fake. I even got beat and ran back around behind the guy who is explosive and jumped up and blocked the guys lay-up attempt. To put it in simple terms. My legs are 10-15 years younger than they were the last few years. I'm faster, quicker, and stronger. Yes! There is a difference between fast and quick!

I wish I would've done this years ago! I never thought I'd ever be jumping around in front of a tv. This crap works!

I'd gladly endorse it and tell everyone I see that they should be doing P90x! I've actually gained about 7 lbs since I started.

I've had people comment that I look "thicker" in the upper body "in a good way."

P90X is not a miracle program.

Any kind of program that makes you work and even more important adhere to a diet will work !! Be it P90X or not...

But good that people feel motivated with exercise from it... at least i'll give merit to that...

Now for a feedback I haven't done P90X ... only insanity and I am still midway but in the past 2 months I have lost 25 lbs ... Step by step i'm regaining my old physique

But just to say that any workout that makes you exercise intensely 5x a week with a proper diet will give similar results. But if p90x gives you the motivation then go for it ! It will work.

Kana, what physical changes have you and Chris noticed (muscle development, weight loss - not that you need any -, etc.) and how have you incorporated tennis into the schedule? I gave up on it in part because I was too sore to practice :(

Thanks, Kana!

I did one of the Insanity Plyometric workouts when we couldn't do a P90x workout. It made doing a P90x weightlifting workout seem like it was for old ladies. Do P90X and then do Insanity!

did insanity 5 days a week for 1 month, didn;t lose any weight or gain muscle but was fit as heck. insanity is putting it mildy.

by the way i was 36 when i started and had never done any fitness workout other than playing my sports, hockey/golf etc..

i did it this winter. i'm not up for bulking up during the summer as I like to play tennis and run more but for 90 days from Dec-Feb, it is very good. I really felt like it really helped me put my body in balance...

I did ...well...P63X...

Quick story was my son and I decided to try it out this winter when I was unemployed. I had all the time in the world and was needing to do 'something' as I hadn't lifted in a year.

My son is 8, I'm 38. Our first week was humbling. My son is a typical hyperactive child with more energy than I have ever seen. He also plays football and soccer and felt he was in great shape. The first week about killed him...as I don't think he'd ever been that sore in his life from working out.

We stuck with it though and made it to day 63. I had been back to work but my schedule at work had me working 12 hour days and trying to fit in dinner, family time and a workout in the evening s proved too much. So, P90X got put on hold.

In that 63 days he went from 18 pushups nominally to 73, not exaggerating, 73. I went from a nominal 12 pushups to 55. Not bad!

He couldn't do a pull up the first week, but finished doing 12. I could do 5 unassisted pullups the first week and finished doing 18 each set.

The plyo was our favorite, until I barfed in the living room one night...(didn't wait long enough after dinner).

We both agreed the yoga was NOT for us so we'd skip that night and do something different.

All in all we had a blast and kept eachother motivated.

As soon as work lightens up a bit we'll get back into it and start from the beginning. He is on a mission to complete the full 90 days before football begins in August. I hope to be right next to him completing the program.

I've been talking to a coworker who's doing P90X now with his wife. He loves the workouts, loves the results, and looks forward to doing it every night.

Me? I'm dragging my feet on the idea of working out every night...

Thanks, Kana!

We both saw a huge change in our strength and overall fitness. I finished the program in December and really started to get the results I wanted in the last month of the program. It is a challenge to stick with it, but it is so worth it. On really busy days I was working out really late at night or would get up super early to fit in my workouts.

The yoga was huge for me as it took away the soreness, energized me and enabled me to keep going to my max for the other workouts.

Plyos and KenpoX were just too easy right from the get go so I played tennis and ran on those days.

I've been some some Insanity recently and just started P90X again last week. This time round I'm playing tennis and doing Insanity on the cardio days and doing the major strength workouts MWF.

As others have stated, P90X works.

I like the Yoga X! The first 50 minutes is a bear but the last is relaxing.

As far as tennis, I'm feeling really strong and don't get tired; even after 2 hours. I think I could play for 3-4 hours of singles play right now.

So which do You like better,..P90x or Insanity?,...

i think a bit of both is the best, insanity doesn't give your legs a rest and doesn't help your upper body as much.

p90x seems to help more with strength/muscle stamina /recovery

insanity was more geared towards speed/fast twitch/cardio

after doing these, if you stay hydrated you feel like you would never get tired.

also i gained about 4-5 inches of flexabilty(touching toes)

I haven't done p90x, but have started Insanity. I already have good conditioning, I could play for hours! However after 5 days of insanity, my calves have been sore everyday.

I planned to stick with the program, but I think I plan on doing it on rainy days for excercise or days I can't play tennis. I played today, and my strokes felt a little off and moving laterally was hard.

Like some have said, its great for getting in shape before a season(p90x or insanity), but don't mix it in during. Some lighter cardio and stretching to keep flexibility will keep you from over training your body

As for hybriding the 2, I do plan on substituting the Insanity cardio into the p90x routine, and try a better yoga routine

I think that 'blending' of the two according to Your needs/likes is a cool idea. Frankly thats just plain 'intelligent' training. Where I've seen people fail in training routines is an inability to be 'flexible' in their training.
I may spring for both systems myself.. :)

P90x

Just started and am in my second week of P90X. As someone who was in decent shape beforehand and in my mid 30's here's my initial impression:

This is good only if you're in decent shape to begin with and don't have serious joint issues (neck, back, shoulder or knee). Some of the workouts are high impact and may cause injury.

The workouts allow for flexibility in how much rest you take and modifications to the exercises (to a degree).

Your diet will go a long way towards dictating your results. If you do full workouts but are still eating a lot of processed foods you will not get near the end results as if you modified what you eat.

Ultimately, I'd have to say that after two weeks the program works. A lot of the exercises in the first phase (first four weeks) of the program are good for tennis specific movements. The workouts are hard and you need a number of pieces of equipment but it is straightforward and not gimmicky. Good luck.

I do use both programs but they are only for general fitness and can only do so much for tennis. Pilates, Interval training( Insanity has this but I rather use the track). Sports adivosr dot come has some interesting tennis training.

FYI: You can buy them both for about $100. These are new and factory sealed. I actually bought Insanity and can vouch for the fact that these appear to be from the factory (not bootlegs) and all of the discs worked. If you read around, there are a lot of bad copies being sold and the discs don't work.

By the way, I don't know this person. Just a happy customer:

I just got Insanity yesterday and verified that the discs work.

From what I can see scanning the discs, it is basically a cross between aerobics and pylometrics done at a high intensity for 45 minutes to an hour without many breaks.

I just want to shed my last 15 pounds and I was going to start incorporating pylometrics into my workouts, so I thought this might be worth a try. I also noticed that I can sell this on Fbay for $80 or so when I'm done.

I also bought high powered plyometrics dvd and book and that looks promising.

http://www.amazon.com/High-Powered-...ef=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301877642&sr=8-1-spell

For weight training, I'm sticking with alternating deadlifts and squats with decent weight every other week and just doing a variety of bodyweight stuff on other days.

I think I'll stick with a day or two of 5-8 mile runs at pace as well.

I've never tried P90X, but am considering buying that too for $45 bucks from the link I posted above. Might be worth a try. If not, I can probably get my $45 back anyway.

I was watching the videos tonight with my wife. Her mom used to be an aerobics instructor back in the 80's (and a powerlifter in the 114 lb. class, but that's a different story). My wife says that most of these moves are the exact same things she was doing 20 years ago in the aerobics studio. She says that is 90% of it. The other 10% is plyometrics stuff that she started doing with her personal trainer a few years ago.

She was laughing out loud that people are spending $200 bucks on an aerobics workout.

That said, it is really what I want right now. The key (according to my wife) is to learn the moves really well and to keep strict form. Otherwise you are basically wasting your time and just doing cardio (and might as well just run or do the elliptical machines). She was helping me get my form down on some of the moves and telling me where I should be feeling it and what I should be concentrating on.

It's funny because even in the video, the guys seem to look so stupid doing a lot of the stuff while it just looks natural for the women. Just like if you ever see guys try to do aerobics in "real life".

Anyway, I'm going to work on my form for the next week before I actually start doing the program. Otherwise I feel I will be wasting my time.

I think I will start doing the plyometrics from the book / dvd I linked to on Amazon after I complete "Insanity". So sometime in July or I will probably just wait until fall.....see how it goes.

I'm still working on the "Beast Skills" progressions for some of the gymnastic style exercises that site talks about.

Yeah,..I hear this,...while i totally appreciate the workout approach,...its not something I wanna do at the local gym, I would totally do it on my own in the privacy of my home.. (still stuck on that macho thingy,..)....a lot of the value of actually 'buying' the DVDs that i see,...is a 'visual' 'how to' to get the moves down and correctly. That, and the dudes in all these programs seem to act like 'personal trainers' giving You that coaxing, 'kick in the butt' (that I could really use right now!!!!!

I got to day 40 but couldn't invest 1.5 hours 6 days a week after that because some work / personal things came up. I was getting some good results and was really getting into it. I wish I could have finished. That was my second attempt at it. I have found that a reasonable gym routine benefits me better for my overall goals.

P90X Update

Here is my experience with the program. Now about to complete my 6th week and played tennis for the first time in months last week. The guy I hit with routinely would beat me and I often had problems holding serve against him. This time around I won the first set 6-2 and we were at 6-6 all in the second when time ran out.

Here's where I saw an immediate impact:

Speed: much faster around the court and tracked down a number of balls that normally would have gotten by me.

Cardio: After almost two hours of tennis I was tired but not fatigued.

Strength: My shots held up pretty well because of the strength I had gained. They weren't more powerful but were more consistent because my technique didn't break down as much.

Serve: There are a lot of shoulder, back and ab exercises in the program. For the first time since I can remember my aces and service winners outnumbered my double faults by a large margin. My technique again did not break down and my confidence in my serve was very high.

I would say that the program is very beneficial to tennis players (and athletes in general) if you have the time to put into it. I've lost over 30 lbs and am close to my college weight (in my mid 30's now). My speed is almost back to the level it was in those days and I'm almost as strong too. Good luck!

Let me just say I like P90X a lot. Not all the discs, but many of them.

Having said this, let me warn you not to waste your money on P90X Plus.

The moves are basically the same with unnecessary tweaks. What's most annoying about the Plus version is the constant advertisement of products, such as BowFlex adjustable dumbbells, Beach Body's pushup bars (which Horton claims to have invented) and pullup bars.

Beach Body's pushup bars (which Horton claims to have invented)

These are really nice push-up stands and worth the (crazy) price IMO. I use them for static holds like L-seat variations, frog stands, tuck planche's, and handstands, etc. Very stable, good ground clearance (not too tall, about 7 inches), and makes everything so much easier on my wrists.

The reviewers on Amazon sum it up well.

I agree with everything in this post. I've just completed 11 weeks. I actually gained close to 10 lbs but the guys I'm working out w/ who are all younger lost weight. I was small and they were big. We are all seeing body transformations.

I've been playing tennis for multiple hours at a time. On two occasions, I've played for 4 hours. I haven't lost a beat. I do get tired in the third hour but this program works. It is time consuming and I worry about keeping it up after week 13. We'll see. I just have to stay motivated as I won't have workout partners like I do now. We are teachers and the school year will come to an end at approx. the same time we complete the program.

FUNNY:
I don't think Tony or Shaun T are funny. Tony is annoying and is anything even said in Insanity? We've mixed in Cardio Abs when we were looking for a change-up to Ab Ripper X. It is tough but no more difficult than P90x. Shaun T just sounds like that coach who says to do things in a forceful (I don't mind) manner like, "Let's go!"

We do laugh at the videos and text each other statements which are funny to P90x insiders. Our favorites:

I'm working hard. I know you are! (said in that weird voice)
Caw! Caw! (like a teradactil coming in for a landing)

on my 3rd week love the program hope to get into insanity after

I'm considering doing Insanity but we'll see how I finish w/ P90X. The thing I like about the workouts is the variety of exercises. It keeps me from getting bored even though it's hard work. I don't do the pullups because of a bad shoulder but use the bands. They really seem to have helped my shoulder problems and so does all the core work.

Yeah a lot. I posted on this thread earlier that I've lost more than 30 lbs and my strength, speed and cardio are close to what they were in my 20's. The real benefit comes from two things: Making sure you are doing the right weight during the resistance workouts and making sure you are using the proper technique throughout the exercises.

Also, don't be tempted to skip the yoga like a lot of people are. It's increased my core strength and flexibility. For the first time in my life I can grab my toes from a seated position with both hands. I've never been able to do that before.
