I would not sleep on the Cal Bears coming down the stretch
I'd have to agree. I was skeptical earlier but they've turned their season around. Chang is playing very well. Just won his match against Friend of AZ in straight sets. Also Overbeck has been competitive at the 1 spot. Doubles is also a strong suit. They can sneak up on other more favored teams.I would not sleep on the Cal Bears coming down the stretch
Definitely a hard fall from last year to this year. Wonder if they had a coaching change, or graduated players, injuries, transfer portal losses, etc. I don't follow them but a logical first guess is they don't have near the same line up this year. The Utah fall off was crazy this year. After many not so great years, they finally had a breakthrough last year to go 24-6, finish #17 and barely miss out on hosting.
All off that momentum fell apart this year with a putrid 3-20 season and not winning a single line in Pac-12 play (all 4-0 losses).
We'll that's 1 men's program and 4 women's programs. HAHA. I think this is still developing and guessing more will join like Boise, Utah St. and others.Heard on the radio that sdsu and Fresno state are joining the Pac conference.
I think I heard Boise in the same story. We'll that's 1 men's program and 4 women's programs. HAHA. I think this is still developing and guessing more will join like Boise, Utah St. and others.
They recruited Niels Hoffman from Corona del Mar. He was the top recruit from last year (at least in CA). We watched him lose to Cal's senior Derek Chen from the UK.Learner won again.
But I looked at the USC roster. It is almost all internationals. What happened to the strong California players that USC used to get in their good days? This could be why the program has fallen.
They just don't seem to be getting the same talent. USC and UCLA bothThey recruited Niels Hoffman from Corona del Mar. He was the top recruit from last year (at least in CA). We watched him lose to Cal's senior Derek Chen from the UK.
USC hadn't been the same since Peter Smith left. I hate to say it about UCLA, but something needs to change there. No reason both program should not be top 20 every year with a real chance to play for the title every few years or so.They just don't seem to be getting the same talent. USC and UCLA both
UCLA has a lot of talent on its roster this year. It's a matter of it showing up on court. Quan is another (right handed) Tien in the making. Bigun is the junior FO champ. Johnson was top ten in the Fall rankings. That's before we even get to Hoogmartens and van Loben Sels. The Bruins are loaded and I expect them to make a run sooner than later.
