never said he did.

sounds like an excuse to me...

yes i said that he was out with injury and injuries are a part of the sport. i never said that was the reason duke lost but they will be aided once he returns and also that was posted after you made the "east cost excuse" argument so you had no backing to say that all east coast teams make excuses.... i'm just curious though, why are you so opposed to every person who is critical of stanford in the slightest?

yep, I had the same pb yesterday. wonder what was going on with the other webcams... maybe some upgrading. We should be thankful that Stanford has arguably the best webcams in college tennis, video and sound! Wish more teams would do the same.

Stanford playing Florida now in seattle. Doubles action has started. Doubles point will be decisive in this match between two closely matched teams.

Stanford vs. USC starting now. Looks like Whit is back in his right mind for this game, Lin/Kandath playing together again at #3. I have to idea what went through Whit's mind yesterday, but he surely learned his lesson...

Just like I said, Lin/Kandath win a crucial doubles point for Stanford! Why they didn't play yesterday is a mystery...

Not sure what to do with Kandath ?? but he does have an excuse in that he played the best teams in the country this weekend so he may say that even if you played someone else like Kehrer or Jamin Ball,,,result would have been the same...

OK,,,this is NOW time to get PUMPED up. HUGE weekend coming up for Stanford. UCLA on Friday and USC on saturday. Both Away dual matches.

If stanford splits this weekend, that is going to be bad for morale. If we take both of these, then we can wash away the bad weekend at ITA indoors and look forward to dominating the rest of the season and go into the NCAA tournament as one of the top 5 seeds.

Yes, BIG week-end coming up for men's tennis. It's going to be really interesting, and in high Q video and sound :).

The biggest Q mark is regarding UCLA. How good are they really? I say the Cards are the better team by a small margin. Klahn has to play like he knows how to, and we need the doubles point. I seriously hope Kandath gets a lobotomy during the week if he's going to play!

For sure it's going to be a close one between the Cardinals and the Bruins, but I'm going to give UCLA the advantage seeing that they've got the home crowd and they also took out Stanford-slayer Florida.

Doubles point goes to UCLA I say. Klahn and Thacher will take out Brigham and Amit at No. 1 but I don't see them winning the other two doubles.

Singles should look something like this:

1. Klahn (Stan) def. Kosakowski (really excited to see this matchup)
2. Thacher (Stan) def. Inbar (three setter between two talented lefties)
3. Clayton (Stan) def. Tabatruong
4. Thompson (UCLA) def. Lin (took Lin out at Sherwood)
5. Puget (UCLA) def. Hirshman (Hirshman won their match at Sherwood, but Puget absolutely dominated in all his matches at the Indoors)
6. Seguso (UCLA) def. Kandath

4-3 UCLA...just my predictions.

Not a Stanford lover, but I still predict Stanford beats UCLA.

Tabatruong and Seguso were not healthy and available for all matches at the indoors. Neither were Sarmiento and Lucassen for USC.

I think we will have to wait and see what the actual lineups are this weekend.

Sorry but this is a away match. so no video for UCLA match but there will be live feed for the USC match. and maybe Maxim will go and video tape the USC match, not sure on that.

think i might be going back on my "probable" UCLA pick from a month or so ago and joining you in the Stanford camp for this match

i think UCLA takes doubles, Klahn wins, and the teams split the 3-6 matches 2-2

that leaves Thacher and Inbar playing a big match, and I give the slight edge to Thacher

I agree with #6 match... sadly Kandath would lose to anyone.
I think Hirshman will win his match though. And I don't know about the doubles, but it may be Stanford's too. However, #2 and 3 spots will be 50/50.

I can't see Puget beating Hirschman. Once you get owned by a pusher, it is tough to break out of it. and i am not so sure Clayton will win his match. Hope so but he will have to play well.

feddie, what happened to your confidence in clayton / who gave you reality pills?

wasn't so long ago you were putting him in polls as a potential ITA All-American winner, and he's looked pretty good so far this dual season

How is it possible that UCLA doesn't have webcams on the courts? They have some of the best tennis court facilities I've seen, and no webcams... Or is it a pay per view access?

there is no pay per view either. ask them, they have enough money. but it might have to do with positioning of camara. There just might not be anywhere to put the camara on.

as you can see here, court #1, and 2 maybe possible. but other courts just doesn't have the right area for cam to be set.

I hope Gibbs and Ahn stay for at least 2 years. must be boring for them to blow everyone away like that at #3 and #4 spot. Not sure how but Mallory has moved ahead of them to #2 spot.

Pitiful LiveStats. The LiveStats scoreboard is stuck at 0-0 on all matches. When you watch video of court 6, they have the Johnson-Klahn score overlaid on the screen instead of the Grant-Kandath score.

the conditions of play are terrible because of the wind blowing across the courts. SO many points are almost impossible to play, the ball bouncing in random directions.

I saw Steve Johnson finish 6-3, 6-2 against Klahn, and I saw Sarmiento beat Lin 6-4, 6-2.

Any idea who won the doubles?

I think USC must have won doubles and 1/3/4 singles, because it looks like Nguyen and Thacher are playing a 10-point superbreaker now.

EDIT: Looks like Nguyen won the superbreaker. Lots of mini-breaks, playing in a crosswind.

Currently 5-0 USC. Talk about a comprehensive Stanford beatdown. What a difference one week makes, and USC is playing without Lucassen!

Meanwhile UCLA seems to be struggling against a strong CAL effort. Lost the doubles point and all the singles matches are pretty darn close at the moment.

I have never believed in UCLA this year, but was shocked when they beat Baylor. Maybe Baylor just is not that good. Florida demolished Baylor in Gainesville.

The rankings are due for some more shakeups, and UCLA will be plummeting. The question is where Stanford will end up. I want a UVa-Stanford matchup in May in Palo Alto, but not sure that Stanford can hang on to the #8 spot in the rankings. Maybe they can drop to #16 by then, so we can play them in the first Palo Alto match.

EDIT: Baylor has added their January German addition at the #2 spot, with everyone besides John Peers sliding down. Lengsfeld did not play in the 5-2 loss to Florida or the 4-3 loss to UCLA. Maybe Baylor will be good by May.

Lots of excitement over one match... Last week, Stanford beats USC, yesterday the opposite. What does it tell us?

Frankly, Stanford didn't play well at all. The conditions were tough out there, lots of wind. Not saying that's what made the difference but maybe USC is more used to play in these conditions. Nevertheless, if you look only at the scoreboard, it looks pretty bad. Several of the matches however were well disputed. Ironic that the worst performer on this team won the only singles match... Well done to him though.

Let's wait and see, many teams will have surprises during the season. This is by no means the only one, and you guys out east will also have a few of your own. :)

What does it tell us? That USC is a lot better with its singles lineup intact rather than shifting up half of their players (likewise Duke is a lot better with its singles lineup intact rather than shifting up all of their players as we saw vs Michigan). There are a lot of good teams out there, and (with the exceptions of UVA and Tenn. perhaps this year) you can definitely lose to some teams that aren't quite your caliber if you're without even just one major piece of the puzzle.

We'll see what happens next time USC and Stanford play. Perhaps you're right that this most recent result was not indicative of the two teams this year, but I tend to disagree.

yes, how quickly some forget...

that Klahn easily beat Johnson just a month ago at Sherwood, and that Klahn has been only the shadow of himself in the past 2 weeks. Whatever the reason, it's certinly not the level he normally plays at. Let's wait until he's back at full speed.

Also, Thatcher losing a tough 3rd set tie-breaker, and they didn't even play doubles, which Stanford is favorite against USC. Things could have easily changed, and the winner reversed. We'll see in Stanford in a few weeks...

Now, I wouldn't sink too quickly such strong and consistent teams as Stanford and UCLA. They may have lost one or two matches lately, but they'll rebound fast, as they always do! Some may forget that Stanford beat Cal 5-2 only 2 weeks ago, even after losing at #1. Now Cal beats UCLA and some already bury UCLA like they do with Stanford....

Well, doubles doesn't matter a whole lot when you lose five singles matches, four of them in routine straight sets. You can argue with the word routine if you wish, but the longest of those four matches / the one that clinched the USC win was 4 and 2.

Anyway, with Sarmiento back in the lineup I wouldn't call Stanford the favorite in doubles - but I guess some would.

Like you say, we'll see in a few weeks during the Baylor-USC-UCLA stretch. Personally I'd guess that Stanford has to win at least two of those three matches to have any chance of having a top 8 seed come tourney time - the rest of their schedule doesn't give them many chances for impressive wins.

I think Stanford can beat Baylor and UCLA, neither of which has been impressive recently. Baylor's Jordan Rux was #2 last year, did not play at all in the fall, and has struggled in the spring. They moved him down a spot two matches in a row, and he has settled in at #4, where he lost 6-0, 6-3 to Mississippi State today. He is obviously still recovering form after whatever it was that kept him sidelined all fall. It would be like Duke having Carleton playing #4 and losing against average opponents. If something does not improve quickly there, Baylor will drop badly in the rankings, as will UCLA.
