The players whom you think will never win a Slam

I know we can't predict the future and who knows what each tournament will bring, but there are some players I just don't think have it in them to win a title of this magnitude. Here's my list.

1. Rublev
2. DeMinaur
3. Coric
4. Tiafoe
5. Fognini
6. Monfils
7. Paire
8. Isner
9. Evans
10. Opelka
11. Edmund
1. Querry

There are many more but those are the ones I can name as of now. What do you think out there?

Karen Khachanov.

I had to laugh when Greg Rusedski was talking him up in commentary and saying he was on his way to the top 10. He's been there already, Greg, and slipped out.

It's bad enough having to put up with Rusedskis inane prattle between matches, him providing commentary during matches is torture.

I think the >30 year olds on that list are some incredibly hot takes tbh.

I'm not sure. I think tennis will be so open in four or five years anyone could pick up a slam.
I don't see Thiem-Zverev-Medvedev-Tsitsipas dominating. They are not really, sorry to say, so excellent they will be dead certs in slam draws. They all have strengths, but huge flaws, too. They will be like a kind of Kafelnikov, Kuerten, Rafter, Muster type deal. They'll get to No.1, win some slams, but there will plenty of seats at the grand slam table for the rest.

It takes a lot of courage to go out on a limb and predict that, among others, Isner, Fognini, Querrey, Dan Evans and Benoit Paire will, in fact, not win grand slams.

kudos.
Would you say

It takes a Paire?

Fognini won Oz Open doublettes tho

Opelka is more likely to win a slam than someone like de Minaur. It will be interesting to see how Opelka develops. He might be able to sneak one. Too early to tell with him, I think.

hate to say it, but I think the ship might have sailed for Rajeev Ram

know it sounds crazy
Lol, I know that we're talking about singles, but:

Greg's okay generally but he does have his moments and this is obviously one of them. Khachanov has been an utter disappointment since beating Djokovic in the final of the 2018 Paris Masters and, as you point out, has already visited the top #10. At the moment it's looking like he may have peaked at 2018 Paris because it's been mostly downhill ever since. Don't see him as a future Slam prospect unless he dramatically recovers form and starts playing like one again.

what about the pedantic one who goes by the name of David Goffin

any slams in the cards for David?

A reasonably fair list of has-beens and likely never-will-be's.

Unpopular opinion I do see Berretini winning a slam probably wimbledon. Rublev will definitely win a slam US open. After the next 3 years nobody will completely dominate the tour but there will be a ton of multiple slam winners in the next 10 years
1 Medvedev 6-7 3-4 USO 2 AO 1 Wimbledon
2 Thiem 5-6 3-4 FO 1-2 USO/AO
3 Zverev 4-5 1-2 FO 2-3 AO/USO
4 Tsitsipas 4-5 3 Wimbledon 1 FO 1 AO
5 Rublev 2 USO
6 Shapovalov 2 1 USO 1AO
7 Berretini 2 1-2 Wimbledon
Players that are too unpredictable that could win slams: Sinner FAA nishioka
Potential 1 Slam wonders; De minaur Khachanov Coric
Wont win a slam: Kyrgios, Opelka, Monfils, Tiafoe, Hurkacz

i think some more respect is in order for the former Basel & Halle finalist

I like and respect him a great deal but the OP asked who we think is not likely to win a Slam and, on past evidence, he fits the bill unfortunately.

Some players routinely picked are already over the hill so obviously their chances are next to zero.

If I'm going with guys sub 25, I think Medvedev and Tiafoe would be my never Slam picks. Medvedev is essentially a poor man's Goran Ivanisevic. And keeping in mind Goran played in an era where a massive serve was worth more but he also had net game. Tiafoe is basically about consistency and his disgusting forehand motion that will obliterate his wrist sooner or later.

My surprise picks for guys most probably don't think will ever win but I think have one magical run in them would be a guy like Coric or Edmund. I think given the right draw both men would snab a title. Especially in the long coming winter period of 2022-2026.

The problem with the list is the age differential between the 12 men.

Querrey and Fabio are both 32/33, Isner and Monfils are 34/35. They are all edging towards the end of their careers and none of them have much, if any, chance to win a major. But guys like Rublev, DeMinaur and Coric are 22/23.

Rublev will probably have the most successful career out of the names listed.
