The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

Just go full poly lower, even 40#s will work wonders.

Keep the frame stock for now. This frame can crush people in stock form with low strung 1.25 poly. You retain serious racquet speed. The more I use this simple setup, the better I play.

The frame truly responds to how good you are. Over the past few weeks, I have fixed some balance issues and shaken off rust and the frame just plays better and better, because I have improved.
What Power Player said ^^^ ;)

The 93p is a dream. With every swing I'm enjoying it more. With my EZONE DR 98 I was in a routine of wanting to use a huge Nadal-esque loopy motion all-out swing on my forehand (more my fault than the racquet obviously), and with the 93p I'm in steady-eddy mode. I get rewarded with excellent power and depth by getting in position early and taking a smooth 80% swing. I have way less unforced errors, which as I've said before, I didn't expect coming down from my usual 98-100 headsize racquets down to the 93. And yet when I need to whip a sharp angle or go for a huge shot, it's incredible how much confidence this thing gives me to place the ball where I'm aiming.

NOOOOO

Lead the 3+9 and V throat right now if you want that rock solid RF97 stability and stroke! :)

This is 3rd on my list. But this is a slippery slope - so I am hoping to get a string setup that I LOVE with the racquet and then see how that will impact my desire for a bit more stability.

Thoughts on adding to 10 & 2 to add some SW and move the sweet spot a bit more towards the tip?

Well I thought you said you liked how RF97 hit groundies, so adding weight to make 93P more like RF97 seems like a natural way to go.

I usually hit above 3+9 and didn't think sweespot was low, but rather found that area outside of it was less than solid. Pretty unique was instability around 4-5 and 7-8 (narrow V throat?).

Anyway, this is how I have my lead...but I did also swap in 7 gram lighter grip (synthetic) with 1.5g 2" above buttcap.

Always wondered how lead strip on one side alone would have an effect on play as I mostly use just one side of the stick myself.

I see that you have one strip at 12 on one side. Any particular type of response you get that way when hitting ball on side that has lead strip? I should try different ways and see. Like how Feli Lopez does etc.

I wouldn't do one sided at 3+9 (for lateral stability), but at 12 it should be fine because langtidunal axis is soooo much longer. In practice never noticed any difference from having it that way at 12.

Interesting. Have seen a few people do one sided on 3 & 9 (a strip at 3 on one side and then a strip at 9 on the other side) and recently read a few threads here about Lopez doing one sided strips that way as well. I don't think lateral stability should be an issue in that kind of a setup. Have never done it personally so maybe I should try and see how it works. Don't feel the need with P93 but maybe with some other racquet. Thanks.

That’s what I do with Tungsten tape

Exactly this! Any difference in how racquet plays versus 2 strips each side?
Well, think about it this way. A strip of 3g tungsten is 8 inches long. Splitting in four 2in strips means on each side you concentrated all the weight in one area of 2 inches. And with just 2 strips you spread the weight over more of the side of the frame. I see as just better weight distribution.

I have done this for years. Perfect. I also use headguard tape to experiment as it is easy to noe around as i play

Just for future reference, what would be an effective way to try and get a second racquet that matches the specs of my current one, or close to it? Provide TW with unstrung weight and balance measures and ask them to find one that matches the closest?

Yep. Mine came pretty much dead on to spec, so I am hoping this one is as well.

Hi All -

I’m about to pull the trigger on this frame based on the glowing opinions on this board. I’ve been a longtime user of the Pure Storm Ltd. GT (95, 18x20). I’ve dallied with other 95” player frames for the last 5 years (Angel TC95, Prince TT95, Yonex SV), but always slide back to the predictability and butter of the PSLGT. I play a serve & volley game, semi-western FH, one handed BH.

I’ve been using RS Lyon 1.25 on my last few string jobs and really enjoy that string.

How would the RS Lyon perform on the 93P? Suggested tensions? Is there another poly that would better illuminate the great attributes of the 93P?

Thanks for any and all input!

My string of choice for my 93p is what Michelle and Troy from TW recommended- Solinco Hyper-G 18 and I strung it at 47lbs. I used the 18 (1.15) as the smaller headsize and dense pattern naturally means a lower trajectory than an open string pattern on a larger head, etc. If you wanted to try Hyper-G in a 1.25 that would be the Hyper-G 16L. Cheers, and ENJOY! This frame is unbelievably solid, plush, and puts the ball where you want it. Looking forward to your review!

I have hit with this frame quite a bit the last week and unfortunately just don't care for it. It hits ok, I just play better with my usual frames. Also this racquet makes a very strange high-pitched ping when I hit with it, even the person I was hitting against today commented that the frame sounded strange.

String and tension, please?

Sounds like a dud to me. Not a common issue based on feedback here.

I string mine at 40#s 1.25 RS Lyon. Frame sounds amazing.

I have posted my setup multiple times here - it's RS Lyon 1.25. And you will like it a lot in the P93. I'd suggest 45#s or less. Enjoy!

Maybe tension is too high? A possible defect with the frame? We've seen a Phantom with a really strange noise in Jolly's racquet review thread.
Not sure but overall the frame doesn't feel that great to me. Going to either send it back to TW or sell it on the boards. Going to give the 100P a try, that may be the one.

How long are everyone's full poly setups lasting? I'm 6-7 hours in with the Tour Bite Soft 17 and my shots are feeling a bit mushy, not quite sailing long and still getting good enough control and spin, but I don't have too much experience with polyester strings so I can't properly assess.

I had to go to Glendale today, and I always visit a well known tennis shop when I am there.
To my surprise they had a 93p in stock. So I just had to buy one. Strung it with YPTP 1.20 40/38.
We’ll see how performs tomorrow.

I have been playing with pb10 mid lately. It will be an interesting comparison.

Was it significantly cheaper over there?

It was.
With dampener and overgrip the racquet came at 352g - right up my alley with some room for lead in the hoop as needed.
And balance feels better out of the box than pb10

That’s my shop. I live like 10min from there and it’s also where I bought my 93p!

I am in IE, and I only go there couple of times a month. I don’t think I ever walked out of there without buying something.

One thing I don't like about that shop. They don't let customers use their restroom.

From Orange County, sometimes it takes a couple of hours to get there due to crazy LA traffic, and they won't let you use the bathroom.

That’s weird. Good thing there’s 2 bars on either side!
