The reason why Nadal fans are freaking out right now.

Is because they have a lose/lose outcome on Sunday:

1. Novak wins = Nadal loses his #1 rank and probably will never catch up to Federer number of weeks at number 1 especially with the 4000 points he has to defend on hard courts in North America.

2. Fed wins his 18th slam = Nadal stays number 1 for couple months longer maybe but slam gap increases and to keep up with slam count Federer had at the same age in 2009 Nadal needs to win USO this year.

Solution to both would be for Nadal to defend 4000 points on hard courts which would be a first time that Nadal ever defended a non clay title and to do it back to back 3 times.

This situation is not the best for Rafa no matter what. So Rafa fans had better do what every other fan is going to do: go with their favorite of the 2 finalists on Sunday. Simple. (And if they don't have a favorite, they can go to the beach instead :))

I think it's more important for Nadal for Djokovic to win...don't think he cares about ranking anymore - just wants to tie or beat Fed in slam totals.

Some Nadal fans just can't fathom that Nadal isn't the favourite on every surface and at every event. They hate that someone else - Federer in this case - has the spotlight and is considered King.

Nadal is master of his own surface: clay. He's also adept on hard-courts. So what if he bows out of Wimbledon early 3 years running? He had a great run on grass during his younger years but now he's a bit more limited and is no longer an all surface player.

This is Federer's turf. Should he win on Sunday, he'll accomplish what Nadal has already accomplished at the French Open: he'll have achieved the all time record for titles at Wimbledon, breaking the tie with Renshaw and Sampras.

If no favorite, they can enjoy the game also!

2 + 2 = 4. This thread is not needed. We all know that

Maybe, but they are mostly talking about easy draw for Federer which is near the peak of hypocrisy for them given 2010 USO and 2013 USO. Peak of hypocrisy for Nadal fans is of course when they complain about excessive celebration from Djokovic. That easily takes the cake.

Nadal is better off with Fed winning. After that, Fed is surely done winning slams. If Nole wins, he will get back his mojo and confidence and will be impossible to stop (outside of clay of course).

That is also widely known but yes, however hipocrisy goes both ways, even I think the Nadal fanboys are the most hypocrite ones, specially when we talk about easy draws, weak eras and this and that

I like both Nadal and Djokovic and hope Djokovic will win his second Wimbledon.

I am happy when I see a high quality match with the best player winning.

Apparently unlike many others here who do not seem to care much about match quality they seem to love the "Warwinka and Raonic' like "matches" we have seen the last few days and seem to care more about a players reputation, the respect he has, if it is good for business, his legacy, nostalgia, slam records and more of that.

But, to each his own!

The weak era argument is very interesting. Lets jump the gun and assume that Federer wins on Sunday. Then if Nadal fans claim that Federer only won his slams because of weak era then that also automatically means that Nadal also only won ALL of his 14 slams because weak era since Federer will now have slams before, during, and after Nadal won ALL his 14 slams. That pretty much only leaves Sampras fans with weak era claim.

You know that argument is easy to dismantle, specially when you consider that Nadal is a huge part of the Federer era so... not really a discussion there other than a fanboy one

Most of Fed's slams were not against Nadal. Nadal has beaten Fed most of the times he played and won quite a few slams against Federer. Between Fed and Nadal - the record books will show their head-to-head as that Nadal is the greater player. Federer was terrific against all others - and was in a weak era before Nadal came on the scene too. Federer will go down as one of the greatest players - who was never able to beat his main rival - Nadal.

@dudeski - here an example of what I was talking about LOL

Exactly. To each his own. Heck, "high quality" itself is even subjective. Some people think that attacking, quick-strike tennis is quality tennis, rather than 5 hour long bore fests of the players pretty much playing catch with the ball.

So yes, to each his own.

There's a lot of pressure to make history and be the first since Lendl to collect 8 slam runner up plates.

Too bad they didn't play 15 times indoors like they did on clay... or 6 times at the US Open like in Roland Garros... and too bad Rafa didn't show up in the second half of the year until Fed declined. Whatever happens, 17 > 14 & 237 > 50 something.

It's definitely a lose/lose situation but pretty sure Nadal was losing his number 1 chair after the US open, so here he'll lose a few more weeks, 9 or 10.
Not a big deal.
Djokovic is more consistent than Nadal on a year, he deserves to be number 1 today IMO.

I'll be going for Fed - class act and Djoko certainly is not.

Also I think it will kill Djoko's confidence and I'd be very happy to see that :)

Wimbledon is far more prestigious in tennis than the French Open and people care far more about Wimbledon slams than they do about French Open slams. Hence Federer is superior to Nadal.

If Fed wins, he'll have beaten 3 top 10 players in the same tournament to do it. So much for the weak draw theory.

Yep, and wins over Djokovic and Wawrinka would be considered even more impressive than wins over the #1 player Nadal because of Nadal's ineptitude on grass nowadays. It would be like saying it was more impressive to beat Kuerten, Bruguera, or even Corretja on clay than Sampras back in the 90's.

A lot of people view it that way. Fair enough. I still think between the 2 players - even Fed would say that he has never been able to consistently beat his main rival Nadal....I'm just saying between the 2 players - Nadal tops Fed.

I go by the head-to-head record of Nadal vs. Federer to determine the better player....

So Davydenko is better then Nadal with that logic? I thought Murray whined a lot but you take the biscuit, I bet it really hurts that even your lover boy Nadal said RF was the GOAT. You're a joke!

Some Nadal fans just can't fathom that Nadal isn't the favourite on every surface and at every event. They hate that someone else - Federer in this case - has the spotlight and is considered King.
Not only that: Nadal is basically not a factor on TWO surfaces: grass in recent years and indoor tennis.

I mean, even Murray makes it regularly to the second week of RG, while Nadal can fall easily at Wimbledon.

I don't think Rafa fans have nothing to lose. Their player has had the better 2 years of any fan....and that looks to continue even with a poor Wimbledon.

Rafa will be back to Number 1 very soon if he lost it.

Federer winning 18th....I can still see Rafa 17-18+ Majors.

Now that **** has lost the last 3 years to #100+ players, deluded fans are saying that Wimbledon sucks and that Roland Garros is a better slam than the big W.
