The resemblances of this match to AO'12 final

-Djokovic was 2 points away from victory in the fourth set, Nadal won it, but Djokovic ended up taking the match
-Nadal was 4-2 up in the final set
-Both players missed a shot that would probably have tied the match up anyway, only for them to get broken again (Nadal BH miss wide at 30-15)

I wonder if this was playing in their heads at all?

All I know is that when Nadal got broken when serving for the match, the Monte Carlo 2nd set must be replaying in his head, except he was even closing to winning the set here.

But it doesn't matter anyway, what's history is history.

Wasn't 4-2 Nadal, Djokovic had a break up and then choked to lose his service game.

Djokovic missed too many important shots while Nadal was using hacks to clip the lines.

Parallels between 2012 Australian Open F and 2013 RG SF

2012 AO: After three sets, it looks like we are headed to a comfortable 4-set win for Djokovic, who is trying to defend his title on his winningest slam
2013 RG: After three sets, it looks like we are headed to a comfortable 4-set win for Nadal, who is trying to defend his title on his winningest slam

2012 AO: Nadal fights his way back and wins the 4th set in a tiebreak
2013 RG: Djokovic fights his way back and wins the 4th set in a tiebreak

2012 AO: Nadal has a break in the fifth, and is up 4-2 with a chance to win after coming back from the brink
2013 RG: Djokovic has a break in the fifth, and is up 4-2 with a chance to win after coming back from the brink

2012 AO: Nadal shanks an easy put away at 30-15. Winning that game would mean he would have a chance to serve for the match in his next service game. Instead, he is broken. This is a huge turning point.
2013 RG: Djokovic stumbles into the net on an easy put away at deuce. Winning that game would mean he would have a chance to serve for the match in his next service game. Instead, he is broken. This is a huge turning point.

2012 AO: Djokovic digs deep and edges Nadal, barely. He deserved the win, having won 21 more points than his opponent in the match.
2013 RG: Nadal digs deep and edges Djokovic, barely. He deserved the win, having won 19 more points than his opponent in the match.

That AO final was much closer than I thought it would be. As Djokovic fan I was relieved that he won, but it was scary how close Nadal came from winning that match. I don't think Nadal fans can feel too comfortable at the prospect of another Djokodal match in Paris.

Hopefully if they meet again here it will be the final. :)

I was talking about Australian Open- both were 4-2 in the fifth and both made easy mistakes to get broken back

WOW. When you think about it, it's scary how those were almost identical matches except you reverse the players on the winning end.

Here's another comparison involving that AO12 final:

In 2009, Nadal played a 5hr SF and had to play the final after only 1 day rest. He comes out and wins against his rival in 5 sets.

In 2012, Novak played a 5hr SF and had to play the final after only 1 day rest. He comes out and wins against his rival in 5 sets.

In those sentences, I only had to change the year and name. There's something about that AO12 final...

I was thinking that as the match progressed too. Nadal also gave up that final set in Aus with a fair few UE's, just as Djokovic did yesterday. Mental fatigue I think as much as anything.

Agreed. *That* backhand miss at 30-15, 4-2 to Nadal in Aus was the equivalent of Djok's falling over the net moment. Eerily similar.
