The retractable roof and Wimbledon?

Will they decide to slow down the grass even more to prevent the 'roof effect' ? Or did they purposely slow it down over the years knowing when the roof was built it 'might play similiar' to the 70/80's early 90's court? We all know it was slowed to ensure longer rallies, but I wonder if this was on their minds when the roof design went through. Personally, I think they should bring the 70's court back and keep the roof on to encourage some form on S&V. That would have to be S&V heaven, indoor grass!!! It would be nice to see some variety in at least one tornie. Anyway, it will be interesting to hear the players comments on the court when the roofs up. One things for sure it will rain.

Speaking as a Murray fan, I think Wimbledon becoming an indoor tournament can only improve his chances of winning.

I hopw it pours down every day he's scheduled to play!

It's not going to make that much of a difference to the extent that it will play like the 70's.

Wouldn't there be a difference between an indoor court and stadium with a retractable roof? I mean, when they close the roof in Australia it doesn't immediately start playing like Paris Indoors.

The big difference is the surface. The reason SW19 has taken so long to get a roof is because of the incredibly complex air conditioning systems needed to deal with the fact that the surface is a living, breathing entity. The test scheduled for May is as more about testing the climate control system with a full house than it is about testing the roof itself.

It will take around 45 minutes from the start of any rain to play re-commencing. This is not becuase it takes 45 minutes to get the roof on, but the time it will take the climate control system to stabilise.

The climate control will have 'drying' effect on the grass and will make it play faster. How much faster is anyone's guess but it will be faster.

Why does it take so long (45 mins) to get the roof on? They have a roof in Australia don't they. I'm sure it doesn't take that long there. But anything against the rain delays is a blessing whatever it does to the court.

Didn't you read the earlier guys comment? It doesn't take 45 min to contract the roof, bit it takes 45 min to get the climate control adjusted properly.
