The Return of the Donnay Pro One

The X Dual Pro - a very impressive racquet offering is going to be re-tooled and re-released in December / early January as the new Donnay Pro One...

I personally think this is a good idea by Donnay.

1) The Dual Pro is a very impressive racquet offering from Donnay
2) The Pro One is a recognizable name offering from Donnay's past, and I think it will be a great blend of new school / old school from the company
3) Early reports are that it will still be the matte black with silver foil lettering on the frame, which I think will look incredible on the frame...

Just wondering what everyone else will think of Donnay doing this... good idea or bad idea?

Will this new Donnay Pro One be more like the original version from the early '90's or more like the TW version that was re-issued a few years ago?

BTW, will it look like this?

Exactly. Does the name Pro One means Donnay is re-releasing the old Pro One or is it a completely new/different racquet?

the original pro ones (as far as I know they were two models, Ltd and Int.) were definitely softer than 63. The Int. has fiberglass and was the softer, the Ltd. was 100% graphite and was I believe below 60.

Quite frankly, I think this is a horrible idea.

Donnay has been back in the game for ONE year, and in that time:

1) They have introduced a DOZEN X-series frames (a great start) with a "new" technology

2) Introduced a second X-Dual series of frames (I guess that's okay) with another "new" sort of technology

3) Introduced a THIRD lineup (X-P Dual)

4) Discontinued their entire initial lineup (a HORRENDOUS idea)

5) Now are replacing the X-Dual Pro with the "Pro One" title

In my opinion, they are moving WAY too fast and their discontinuance of the X-series frames makes me seriously question their marketing strategy. They really need to ESTABLISH a customer base with their frames before they go and alienate that VERY SAME set of customers by discontinuing an entire lineup.

And now they introduce a new frame (that 99% of the public can't even BUY right now), and immediately are "re-introducing" it as another frame altogether. Outside of that, there is only ONE retailer online (TW) that offers Donnay frames. They should spend more time expanding their distributorship rather than replacing one technology with another every few months.

Absolutely ridiculous. No wonder they dropped off the map years ago. I expect them to do the same in another year or two of this nonsense.

And it's a shame, since I LOVE my Donnay frames. I bought four of them so as to protect myself from this bullsh!t. I can't believe they expect their customers to react to their changing marketing ploys every few months. Sure, established companies like Wilson, Head, and Babolat can get away with it because they have TOP PROS advertising their wares and drawing in customers who need to have their gear (or what they THINK is their gear). But Donnay doesn't have that luxury.

And even then, Wilson only comes out with a new line every year or two. Not every few months. I think Donnay is on the road to ruin with all of this jockeying around with their frames so early.

Probably neither considering they have nothing to do with donnay other than leasing the company name.None the less at the current rate it'll be discontinued and on their evilbay site by March and before anyone outside of the US has even hit with it. They seem to be doing odd markeeting things.
Did you see they had a WIckmayer 100 year frame? It was almost $200 like the others, sports direct over here were selling it for £20!I thought at first it must be a lookalike but saw it in store and it was a proper graphite frame.

The throat tag indicates an RA of 73. Much too stiff. They need to take it down to 63. Everything else about it is appealing.
That's RA... TW and others measure RDC. No idea what these abbreviations stand for, but 73 RA is roughly 66 RDC. Still stiff, but from my experience (with several X and X-Dual, and X-P Dual Black), Donnay frames do not feel stiff.

On my X-Whites, stiffness is listed at 70 (in the serial number). TW lists X-White stiffness as 64.

I agree, all this marketing hoopla is mind-boggling. It's a shame, because the new Donnay frames are ridiculously good... As a brand-new owner of two X-Whites, I hope that there is a method behind the madness, and that Donnay is here to stay.

Makes you wonder if in 5 or 10 years we'll be posting in a thread where somebody says, "hey, you remember those Donnay X-Dual Pros? Those are truly a classic and hard to find becuase they only made them for a few months".

Or something along those lines.

Hi Karl, haven't seen you posting for long time. How have you been? I also heard about this new lines - the Pro One series and the Formula series. I have a mixed feeling about this.

Changing name can be a good idea as a lot of people still remember the Pro One series. What I concern is the cosmetic - silver foil lettering. I am not sure if it will look good. I need to see it first before further comment. The simple black-white is already good in my opinion. Most people like its simple look while some people said it looks like unfinished product. Donnay should also put leather grip on this racquet line.

The original Pro One International was 55 RA, the limited was stiffer at around 62

Why DID they phase out their original lineup? They had some nice sounding sticks in there - just a bit hard to playtest in some areas. For whatever reasons, some of us take a little longer to contemplate upgrading equipment. It doesn't mean we're not interested though.

Ive been interested in the x-dual pro or a pro stock TGK and prefer the simple black with white lettering for the Donnay... it's so simple it is perfect.

I really liked the X-Blue 99, it almost beat out the prestige but I like to serve and volley and the prestige was better at that. If the Pro is like the H22 or PT57A Id be very interested. A RDC of 60 + - 2 sounds great to me. 18x20 for sure
