The Ruud Awakening!

I believe that is illegal.

Casper Ruud is nothing if not a fighter. Last Sunday, the Norwegian nearly went out of this year's French Open in the first round against the Russian Roman Safiullin. Ill throughout the middle of the match, Ruud managed to recover to win it 6-2 in the final set. On Friday, Ruud had a titanic battle with Tommy Paul in the third round in which the American led by two sets to love and had two match points at 5-4 in the fourth set before the Norwegian came back to win that set in a tiebreak and the match 7-5 in the final set after close to five hours of play.

On Sunday, Ruud, who is seeded no. 15 will take on 19-year-old Joao Fonseca, the no. 28 seed, who has come back from two sets to love down in his last two matches, most notably against Novak Djokovic in the third round. This will be a first meeting between Ruud and Fonseca in which the Norwegian's greater experience might well count in the end with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
