The screaming has to go.

I think that Azarenka takes the cake for being the most annoying player to watch because of her constant moaning and screaming. The crowd even started to boo her it was so excessive in her match against Aga last night, screaming when she'd miss a shot even.. I just don't see how it's necessary to scream when you hit your serve or groundstrokes alike. They do not do this in practice, so why make a conscious effort to wail every time you contact the ball in a match? I think the umpires should really start giving penalties when the noise becomes absurd.

I agree, it is irritating and embarrassing.

And she should get warnings or penalties because her sound keeps going way after she hit the ball.

DVR, women's match? SKIP SKIP SKIP SKIP SKIP... However, the semi's look solid and entertaining this time around. Hasn't been this interesting in a long time

The tennis governing bodies don't care. If they did they would do something about it. Between that and the slow play between points, tennis is hard to watch on TV.

It really does take away from the enjoyment of the game when Azarenka and Sharapova play. To me, this is blatant cheating.

They should execute one of those screamers publicly.
Would solve the problem immediately.

Watching replay of Murray/Fed match on ESPN. Murray grunts, "uhhhh ehhhh" on every point. Suspend him?

Sharapova doesn't bother me too much - sounds like it could be from effort even though you don't see it in practice vids. Azarenka's hooting I can't stand - it sounds entirely contrived and probably her attempt at "branding" herself

...and they are not messing with star players. The only "outcry" are from bitter people online (a small group) who are usually the same people who claim to hate women's tennis.

Not at all. There are a LOT of people who are of the opinion that the modern womans game is rendered all but unwatchable due to the ridiculous noises coming out of most of the WTA players mouths during play. You'd be surprised...

actually the WTA has adressed the issue but they said that it is too deeply engrained into the current generation so they will try to adress it in later generations.

however I think that this doesn't really work that way because today's girls will imitate their idols at TV and later do it too. if they want to get rid of it they need to ban it with the pros.

you can't say "we allow it to maria and vika but you kids can't do it", the only way to get rid of it is taking away the role models among top players by prohibiting it. probably won't happen.

I recall the WTA's position...which--at the time--I said it was another way of saying, "we are not messing with the money," meaning the big names who also happen to make noise.

No, it will not, as the marquee names keep the sport alive in one way or another, so what administrative body will hurt their bottom line/future by altering the behavior of the stars?

I have to mute the tv when watching many WTA matches. I'm a relaxed guy but screeeeeeching on every hit is a detriment to enjoyment received.
