The end of 2014 is in sight so a good moment to review the 2014 season and look beyond.
The Notable Spring Chickens
Nick Kyrgios
A player with a great future ahead of him. Now needs to work on serious professionalism and focus. He is young, I suspect him to shine in 2016 with a possible slam win.
Dominic Thiem
Natural talent who needs to get a better technique to compete at the top. It will be a wait and see situation, if he only keeps carrying logs in the forest he might wind up being injured or qualify for weightlifting in the next Olympics.
Reaching Maturity
Nishikori
Good season, it seems he still has room to grow into an even stronger player. Question is his physique, can he maintain top tennis without too many injuries.
Dimitrov
Finally the long awaited break through is around the corner. He will get there, he is an all round player. Perhaps a slam opportunity in 2015, Wimbledon perhaps?
Cilic
Another player rapidly approaching maturity. Recovered quickly from his absence from the field. Looks like he is heading to a great 2015.
The Old Guard
Wawrinka
A promising start by winning the AO but after that it was disappointment after disappointment. With an absolute low of being bageled in the FO. Also Wimbledon came to an embarrassing ending.
Nadal
Another year interrupted by injuries. One wonders how long he will stay around. Hopefully he will have an injury free 2015.
Djokovic
Same as 2013, a solid 2014, reliable, focused and determined! Will he finally get his 2015 FO win?
The Older Ones
Hopefully the 2014 season will end with some retirements. But we will certainly thank them for their great tennis they have shown in the past!
