A new woodie arrival today -a Snauwaert Commander
My fifth Snauwaert (Miso Fibre Mids 1&2,Dyno Boron and Graphite Mid ) - and one I`ve been unable to see much info on in Classic Racquet Talk.
I`ve attached links to pics below as I`m unable to embed them fron Google Drive.
The racket is in great condition and I`m guessing dates from the 1970`s.
It`s a bit of a beast as it weighs in at 405grams with it`s original leather grip.
If anyone is able to give any extra info I`d be grateful.
The graphics design is pretty similar to the Brian Gottfried Autograph- so it maybe from the same range but a bit further down in the pecking order.

I usually take my new rackets out for a hit but this one has grip size 6 (too big) which when combined with the weight would make it quite a handful.

Lovely slab of walnut! No extra info, but I'd agree with your 1970s estimate. Snauwaert were making sticks for various other companies at that time, so there might be a Spalding / LCS / Adidas equivalent.

You should take it for a hit, as 400g rackets work well with larger grips IME.

Well I`ve read rackets like this one referred to as logs :0)
I feel I must take up the challenge laid down by Grafil so I`ve applied some Dubbin to the leather grip to soften it up a bit.
Hopefully that will make my grip on it better- avoiding the risk of a flying woodie connecting with somebodies head.
I`ll give it a 30 minute trial next week if I`m feeling brave .
I`m anticipating muscle fatigue and failure rather than tennis elbow .
Out of curiousity I weighed my Wilson T2000 for a comparision..a mere 390 grams for the Connor`s club !

I remember when McEnroe Had the Snauwaert "S" stencil on the strings of his Dunlop Max 200G in 1990.

Both acquired at thrift stores for a couple of bucks. Enjoy taking them out for a hit once in a while.

Well I took the Commander out for a 30 minute hit last week -and as expected got a bit of an arm work-out.
The old strings were in pretty decent shape and serving was fine,touch not bad either .
The weight helps a lot with plow through on baseline shots etc. but is not your friend at the net .
Control was not good though unfortunately as the grip size was too large and even though I like leather grips I couldn`t get a firm grasp.
It`s a handsome racket to add to my collection but is more likely to find wall space rather than racket bag space I think .

Nice stick, and just as the Gottfried series there is also a flex version of the Commander

and this is what I wanted to say: after using Snauwaert-Tools for 50 yrs now (and I've used a lot), these 4 are my favorite ones. these i've kept and played til' now and I will continue playin them.
and - by the way - my first racket was a Snauwaert Mini.

The Golden Mid is a wonderful racquet! I play sets with my old 1980s Snauwaert “Tennis Instruments” often. It’s like enjoying a fine wine.

I don't drink wine, but I enjoy my Snauwaerts like a gourmet.
