The Solution Speed FF can’t be that bad, can it?

I listened to some reviews about the solution speed FF, a shoe I want to try to see if it is good for me. I love the gel resolution 8 and FF 2, but the price point and review from TW caught my attention. What are your guys’ reviews and thoughts about the shoe? Durability and stability/support are some of my key ingredients and would like to know if the shoe can compare against the resolution. Grazie!

Wouldn't call them comparable. I'd go for the resolution. Haven't tried the speeds first hand but I bought these for the female and all the problems noted with it are valid to a degree according to her but "it's a good shoe for 60 dollars."

It's a good shoe for $60. The biggest drawback is that the upper is not flexible and not breathable. I'd buy another pair if at that price point or cheaper.

Love this thread as the title has been running through my own head of late. The TW reviewers said it has a wider for ala the goat SS2 but otherwise seems like an avalanche of hate.

how would one compare the upper material/flexibility and also the width (midfoot and forefoot) between the speed FF andthe Gel Res 8? Gel Res 8 also a bit plasticky on top but it’s not an atrocity. Is this speed similar or worse?

I tried on the Court FF and it was a disaster on my foot - two narrow in the midfoot and the outer plastic material caved in on my foot. The Gel Res 8s are decent but a little clunky. In constant search for a SS2 type shoe for some clay tennis.

Gel resolution user here.

I cheaped out and decided to try the solution. I mean, come on. I'm no princess, so how could a different shoe from the same manufacturer be a problem?

Well, I found out. I now have a pair of solutions that I do not like to wear. To the point that I have gone back to my old resolutions that are bald on the bottom.

The issue is that my heel does not feel secure, and the shoe does not feel as solid. It's so frustrating to be on your toes like you're supposed to be, in a shoe that seems to be complaining about it.

That's what I get for trying to save some money.

I had to return my gel 8’s because they are too heavy for my size 13 feet, almost 16 ounces. They fit pretty well but it felt like I was wearing boots. I definitely am looking for lighter shoes because of my size

I was nervy re the plastic Upper but a good speed shoe. Don’t have issues with the creasing, just wear a basic ASICS sock and have great arch support. No need for my orthotics. No issues at all with heel, toe box issues (I thought I would but did not rub or irritate at all) or ventilation but I play in UK. They are aren’t “Vapor X kyrie 5 kyrgios“ good but a nice match day light speed shoe. It’s an all court/ doubles Player shoe.

issue is that what you want in a shoe isn’t what this shoe is designed for.

Terrible shoe. The upper rubber creases at weird places and ventilation is terrible. Because of that I swore to never buy another Asics Speed as long as they stick with that stuff.

The Asics Solution Speed 2 were the best. Asics should come back to that shoe. I should have stock up.

Funny the previous poster mentioned the Kyrie/Kyrgios. They are absolutely great and many times better than the speed ff in my opinion. It’s what Asics should have done with the Solution Speed.

yes it is Garbage. NO stability and NO bounce and energy feedback from the cushioning. then What's it good for ? Nothing

I like them a lot for it's lightweight and solid build. I'm fairly light on my feet so durability has never really been an issue for me. The only complaint I have is heel slippage, which I have also experienced from the Gel Res 6 and 7. I wear two pairs of socks because of this, which isn't a big deal, but just takes more time and effort to put those socks on.

Court feel/connection to court? Speed? If you can create your own speed and move efficiently, you don’t need heavy cushion or spring back. Some players love a low, light, connected shoe.

It’s like playing in a supportive light running shoe that has great connection to the court. It’s like a lighter Vapor 9.5. I really thought I’d hate the upper and it wouldn’t break as had massive issues with the Nike ultrafly bending funny but these flex well. They do fold and crease over the toe box but it’s never hurt once, even wearing thinner socks. For a player that has to wear orthotics in every other tennis shoe he has, these being perfect out of the box is staggering to me.

They have a market clearly but they get a lot of hate. I had the gel res 5 which is a beloved shoe and Yet I hated them as just didn’t fit well for me.

As with any shoe, you need to buy what works for your feet and your game. I’m lucky that I can pretty much make any shoe work if it fits me but I love a lighter shoe as athletically slim built and an all court player.

Not really. Amateur guys need all the help we can get. we need shoes to push us on the 1st step and jump on the serve. pros don't need this help as much. but amateurs need cushion that will literally give you 20 % power energy return to your feet so you can get going and jump higher on serve and running

youwrong. just look at his videos on Serve Jump height,, Super big differences in jump height among tennis shoes,, nike Turbo seem best and asic FF speed suck like not having any jump ability. and even Asic Gel res 8 and FF2 seem like really good on jump height ability. and they are FASTER than speed FF......LOL:laughing:

So what is FF speed good for ??????????? Nothing..... it is actually Slower than heavier court FF and Gel res 8.............................

Lots of different foot types and lots of different movement types. I find Speed FF comfortable and move more confidently than with the FF2 (narrow foot).

Have never had overheating issues in Speed FF, even in the 90+ Florida heat, but I don’t usually have overheating in most shoes.

I’m also not usually prone to ankle issues so no issues with stability for me. But i’d probably look elsewhere if that’s your top priority. The plastic upper helps, but stability is not in same league as FF2 and GelRes.

Clicking/popping always goes away after around 2nd wearing for me and have never felt the “crease”. On my 4th pair now.

Mine still crease and click and pop.
Never had this issue with any other Asics shoes in past.
Glad I bought a neutral color as I wear these just to work.
Would be too annoying for tennis.
I would not purchase again.
The Asics gel Challengers are much better at least for me, with fit, comfort, light weight, and they don't crease , click or pop.

For fear of feeding the troll

You are talking definitively here when it is a sample size of one person. I love TennisFootDoc’s videos and really appreciate what he’s doing to take down shoes to demonstrate the tech inside them.

However with only one tester, it’s what works for him, not for everyone. Even polling across this thread is only a tiny sample of the wearers of the shoe, let alone all tennis shoes. All the temperature, suicide and jump tests need multiple testers across multiple runs and multiple days to provide better data by increasing the volume of data.

The suicide tests are very small differences in the main, all within a second or so of each other. External condition such as heat/ humidity, how you feel that day, what you think the shoe should do (affecting your effort (confirmation bias)), when you do the video. These could all have an influence and skew the results more than the shoe. It’s not scientific but then it’s a video on the internet, not a lab testing of shoes. No disrespect to Zak as it’s so entertaining but let’s not delude ourselves into thinking this is anything definitive. It’s helpful, entertaining and useful.

You can prove anything with a sample size of one and no control or blind sampling

Shoes will always be subjective: feet are different so everyone’s mileage will vary. Shoes are made to a specific last and median foot type. Just because they don’t work for you or some people, doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for anyone.

I just bought them after wanting the court ft. The reason being they were half the price. Don't know what's happening with tennis equipment price's but it's getting ridiculous. Anyway

Very light and responsive (barricade user beforehand). Yes there is folding in the upper, but it's not uncomfortable. I don't hear any popping. They aren't as stable feeling as the barricades obviously but now the barricades feel like concrete blocks.

I had to use all the lace ties, but I really quite like them. And considering how cheap they were...

Let's be honest, most people here don't move like goffin. And if it's good enough for him?

This. I keep trying heavier shoes but seem to end up back with the Speeds. Obviously, there are shoes that are more stable, padded, etc.. Those are the ones the foot doc always favors. If the Speeds fit well, though, and are stable and padded enough, I don‘t know any shoes that feel faster.

It’s an individual thing, but I’m 48, have back issues, and had a first bout with plantar fasciitis a year or two ago. I thought I would need a heavier shoe but Speed FFs work fine wIthout the bulk.

One tip: some of the folding/popping/ slipping issues are created by a little extra top to bottom space in the shoe. I have a narrow foot and find two pairs of socks works well to create a more secure, snug fit.

I have went through three pairs of solution speed ff (the gray/gold, cherry tomato, and black with red and white colored back). I like them a lot for a lightweight shoe. Slickish bottom, very comfortable for my arch. I play 2-3 hours for 6 out of 7 days on hardcourt. In the summer they do get a bit hot.

I'll echo these statements. I have 2 pair I purchased almost a year ago (good TW sale). I'd been using them regularly, but was trying the new Nike Cages at the time & put them in my closet. Between the pandemic & being selected for the Hypercourt Express playtest, they're were still doing time in my closet.

So the other day I decided it was time to chuck the old Cages and get some use out of the Speeds. I was shocked at how loose my heel felt, and I wear ankle braces on both feet. At times I felt I was going to walk right out of them.

I'll wear them for the remainder of the year, then I'm switching over to the Hypercourt Supremes. Much better shoe IMO.

The only time since I left school that I rolled my ankle playing tennis was in the Speed Solutions. Not a lot of stability and they felt too wide around mid-foot and around the heel, which actually was handy when I was playing wearing an ankle brace lol.

My thoughts of a good tennis shoe is, being light weight, and comfortable , and when you get out on the court, you do not even think of the shoes. While these are light weight, have decent comfort, but...With these folding/ creasing, and popping, these shoes do not fit that criteria. It seems to be the plastic type material that the upper part has does not flex like a normal shoe.

The only issue is the thin tongue, but apparently a few asics have this problem. I developed a slight pain on the top of my foot from lacing.

I am a massive Asics Court FF fan and am currently using the FF2, which is also good but I prefer the original FF. In any case, I got a set of the Speed Solution FFs which I figured I'd use for practice or doubles. Removed tags and wore them around the house but they just don't feel right on my feet. Its unfortunate, I wanted to love these. I guess I'll use them for casual wear here and there or maybe sell them.

Good light weight, good ventilation. Comfort++. Main weakness in default form is lack of stability, which I remediated by using all shoelace holes. Had to buy longer laces to do this. The end result is great.

Is the Asics solution speed FF the same as the Asics solution speed FF2 ?
