Congratulation for Nadal and all his fans. What a great year it's been and this is a HUGE title for Nadal's career. I surely never saw this coming a year ago. You have to respect the fight of the soon to be #1.

Congrats to Rafa on #13. Getting rather close to Sampras and Fed now!
Never expected him to win the US again, incredible! Now anything's possible!

“13 Grand Slams for a guy who is 27 years old is incredible,” Djokovic said. “Whatever he achieved so far in his career is something that everybody should respect, no question about it. He's definitely one of the best tennis players ever to play the game.”

What an amazing and classy champion. Tennis is blessed to have a man like Nadal. And we're all blessed to have watched him live.

Nadal, US Open 2013 champion!

Great job, Nadal. The sport of tennis will be at a huge loss when Nadal fades. I'd likely quit watching since there's really no charismatic intense players on the tour. Nadal should retire with at least 19 Slams I believe. 4 more FOs, another AO and another Wimby.

We have to be truthful about a couple of things. Nadal is slightly fortunate that Andy Murray is not passionate about the sport right now nor hungry after winning Wimbledon. Del Potro also doesn't look in good shape. Otherwise tackling so many threats could be difficult, especially back to back. Nadal has a pretty nice window to capture the WTF for the first time. 2014 will be a very intense year as Nadal will have to play the entire season and not have another 8 month break from the tour.
Looking forward to AO :)

Nadal could skip the rest of the season and I'll still be ecstatic about what he's accomplished this season. Truly phenomenal. This season to me showed exactly why Nadal is probably the mentally toughest tennis player ever.

This may be Rafa's best season to date: 5 masters, 2 slams, 10 titles total and it's not over yet! I'm about ready to rank it above 2008 and 2010. Summer triple on hard + 8th title at RG. Do you realize how HUGE that is? He's practically guaranteed to finish the season #1 now. And still undefeated on hard court (gasp). That's just so... no word.

If he wins the WTF and grabs #1 (he most likely will), I think this is his best season without a doubt. 60-3 record this season? That's just ridiculous

What a champ!!!
I don't care much for the GOAT debates, once he stops playing the fun is out, i would absolutely miss him, goat or not is not going to matter, but boy Rafa knows how to settle scores.
Both fed and Nole fan camps will root against him more than ever, but team rafa love will more than make up for it.

MichaelNadal you are one of my favorite rafa fans here. Enjoy the win.
I miss bolo in this forum and also thelonewolf:) .

I was OK with Rafa not winning, not wanting to be greedy and all. 2013 has already more than exceeded my expectations. I usually don't go into the Pro Match section during a Rafa match, but I thought, what the hay. Rafa had lost the 2nd set and got broken in the 3rd, and I thought, eventually I'd have to hear it anyway.

And then, I looked up and saw that look in his eyes and my fingers stopped in mid-air. I thought, I'm not giving up on Rafa, because Rafa's not giving up and how many times has he astounded me?

I love that guy. He is amazing!

It's a great year to be a Nadal fan. With this win and this year Rafa really shows what an amazing and truly one-of-a-kind player he is. Definitely the greatest comeback in tennis history, by far.

If people could stop hating for a few minutes and watch objectively, they might realize how awesome he is.

Congratulations to Rafa and his team. His fans never lost faith. Last year this time we were all checking Rafa's FB umpteenth times a day, anxiously looking for news of his progress with his knee injury. We were wondering when we would see him with a racquet in his hand on a tennis court. Some of the medical reports were encouraging some bleak.

We kept our faith. We knew he would come back but no one knew how spectacularly he would come back.

Rafa is just the ultimate competitor with the talent to go with it.

Congratulations to his team!

Best overall player I've ever seen in my time watching since the early 80's.

Really did not expect him to win this, but he surprises yet again. Guy didn't even play a "great" match by his standards (he was way better in 2010), and still found a way to win.

Crazy good.

amazing year after a lot of low points, Nadal's back on top! This guy is really amazing.

Vamos!

If someone in the forum in 2007 would have said Rafa would be winning slams in 2013 I doubt a single person would have believed it, myself included. Amazing what he's doing on what seems to be bonus-time.

There's just no stopping Rafael Nadal. AND Nadal can still win Roland Garros for many years to come. It's almost unquestionable that Nadal will wind up with the slam record AND the Masters 1000 record. Not to mention that he's a player with some of the greatest longevity in world history- Nadal is the only man ever to win one slam per year for 9 consecutive years, sweeping past Borg/Sampras/Federer, who could only manage 8.

Didn't he win the clay slam as well?

After 2009 I'd probably tell such a person to kindly leave these boards to never show their face again, but I'd be very, very wrong.

Absolutely bonus-time. Everything since beating Sods in the 2010 FO final has been gravy.

Nadal's done the Clay sweep (MC-Rome-Madrid-FO), Grass sweep (Queens-Wimby) and now the North American Hardcourt sweep (Canady-Cincy-USO).

Indoor sweep to come?

STOP THE HASHTAGS!!!!!

Other than that, congrats to Rafa! Very well done to only be broken four times the entire tournament!

I <3 Rafa! Great win though he was on the ropes for the best part of 2 sets so it was amazing to see him turn it around like he did. You've gotta feel for Djokovic though.

If someone had told me this time last year that Nadal would come back from a 7 month injury lay-off and tear through the tour winning everything in sight, having a better year than his 2008 season and almost better than his 2010 season, I would have dismissed them as just fanatical ********s in the grip of the deepest delusions. I was far from convinced that he would ever again pick up a racquet! The sole blip was the rather strange 1st round exit at Wimbledon.

What a difference 12 months can make! After this, who can ever safely predict anything that he will or won't do ever again?

IMO Nadal's 2013 comeback is one of the all-time great surprises in men's tennis. I can't wait to see how much further he will take it and if he can snatch back the #1 ranking by season's end. After what he has achieved so far since his return to the tour, who could possibly bet against it?

Thank you for being a tennis fan Mainad and not make asinine comments like the others when somebody other than their favorites win.

QFT. Unbelievable. I had the same deadened feeling inside yesterday that I had during the second, third, and fourth set of AO 2012 and stupidly went into the Pro Match Results and acted like a little whiney brat back in 2012. And then he almost pulled it out. I vowed I'd never go in the PRM while watching Rafa again. And I haven't.

Yesterday seemed hopeless. Just like the fifth set of the French semi. Rafa won both of his slams this year in the hardest possible fashion. Unbelievable. Snatching victory from the gaping, Nole jaws of defeat.
