The Tennis Channel

Ok guys,

I think the Tennis channel is a great addition tool to any fan of tennis. I personally watch about 2 hours a day and when there is a live ATP Tournament on and I have time, much more then that. What I can't really understand is why they have to reapet programs over and over again. Like the Davis cup Croatia x Argentina Russia x Slovakia They repat those matches about 10 times trough the whole week, and that is not so bad . The worst examples are when they reapeat Challengers events like this year Tarzana event , they repeated so mant times that I almost memorized the comments of the telecasters. So, I think overall the tennis channel is doing a good job and growing. Open access is a great show with very interest interviews and the host Jensen a very nice figure indeed, but why do they have to repeat it about 4 times a day...?

My suggestion is rather then reapting the shows over and over I would love to see CLASSIC MATCHES. Darn , Wouldn't be great to see the Greats from the 80 : with Borg, Johny mac at his prime, Connors etc.. Many of us did not have a chance to really see them in action live, and It would be a great opportunity. Not only that , but who would not rather to see the encore of the doubles match from last week, or a Roland Garros final from 1997 where Guga won for the first time. How about Rod Laver many say he is one of the Brightest talents of all time but who had a chance to see him in action? I bet very few of us...

sorry , damn that is the second time that I post in the wrong Forum. I will re-post on the genral pro player sicussion since this is designated for pro gear..

At least you can get the TENNIS CHANNEL. It is on such limited areas I've stopped writing and callling my Dish channel. It has not done any good for the last two years. I talked with a lady rep at the ATP event in Cincinnati last year ( 2004) and she stated it would only be a few months before Dish tv was going to get THE TENNIS CHANNEL. It never happened. I'm tired of writing them and calling them. I'm sure it's all about the money they get charged for the TENNIS channel. Yet I can get the GOLF channel free and how about all the home shopping channels they can offer you free. I'll trade them all those for the TENNIS channel. Think they will barter like that...lol.?

i agree with you mctennis I don't want the Golf Channel period. I'd rather watch on CBS or NBC however Grigollif1 consider yourself lucky cause we don't get it period.

arrrrrg.

at least you get it! i'm here in CHICAGO fer chrissakes. I can get the cricket channel, the puppy channel, the curling channel, the bow hunting channel, the red haired japaneese hockey players named rusty channel, but not the tennis channel.

stop complaining about your shoes, said the man with no feet.

agreed i like no strings to it made me like vince spadea

wow....must be a magical show then. Vince was an ass during his high school years. Diane and Luanne were nice. People always wondered why V was such a loser...such huge attitude. Luanne was still nice after winning the Orange Bowl...

anyways,

TC is great now, with all the coverage from the Madrid Masters... Great tennis, great coverage (live, minimal interruption) and great venue (though not much audience... but the ball is easy to see on TV!)

Man, I'm just happy you included what you drive in your sig! Phew! Been wondering .

Anyway, fill me in. What is so bad about the TTC's instructional segments and Dinnoffer? The guy is a MASTER PRO with the PTR and the USPTA. He knows his stuff, no?

not at all questioning his credentials...we all know what they are. the issue lies with in the tv show.

have YOU watched the show?? if not, then don't read further...it won't make too much sense.

if yes, u must be crazy to get much value from watching his pre-teenage daughter kalindi demonstrate techniques on tv... okay - so demonstration of some of the beginner technique with her is ok... but not for 99% of the show!! why does he use her to demo inside out FH when girls her age at national level still plays heavy moon-ball topspins?? to save cost of cast? lol.. also, there's an episode where JD advertises having Shaunessy (sry misspel) as a guest... her appearance was all but 30 seconds... WHY promise big at the start of the program when all it was just a 30 second clip?? again, why does a pre-teen girl try to show us how to use power?
now, u tell me...

i don't mind those programs, ONLY the fact that the same segments are repeated so often that I almost have the show memorized. Read in an interview with the TTC head that getting sponsors is a big issue, so they repeat old shows and old ads over and over again. But once in a while I catch a new segment and it is good. Last week there was a full hour program on what happens behind the scenes at the French Open. Chris Myers interviews are not bad. Why I like them is that they don't have the hyped up commentary and aggressive talking that goes on in other sports shows (including on the golf channel). That is why tennis is different (at least till now) from the other mass marketed sports.
