The TMF GOAT list

He wasn’t far better he was just as good in 2015 he beat peak Djokovic 3 times. You are kind of proving my point Fed 2014-2015 was better than anyone bar Djokovic and 2017 seems he was better as he didn’t have Djokovic to stop him.

Feds best slams where Djokovic too and Djokovic cost Fed a lot post 2010 as Fed was still elite just not better than one person. When Djokovic went awol Fedal won 6 slams in a row so they did benefit too. All did as they are great but 66 slams was due to Fed having easier competition early and Djokovic late
Federer 2015 was nowhere near his 2017 level as in 2015 his back was an issue and had been for a few years. Its why he needed the change of racket to compensate for his reduced power due to the back so he could get more power on his shots again.
It is well documented that Federer should have changed rackets 5 years earlier.

You are taking the **** Fed 17 was great but 15 was way better. Just because the results didn’t go his way makes 17 better on paper but even the US15 final Fed was better then AO17 just don’t take his BP’s.

Also you said 17 was better then Fed 12 which is actually hilarious

I can only assume you didnt watch the respective matches. Federer's BH was light years better than at any point since 2008 arguably in 2017.

I think it is you forgetting Fed for example at USO15 didn’t drop a set to the final also at IW15 and Rome. He was crushing anyone not named Djokovic. If not for prime Djokovic Fed 15 would be one of Fee best seasons

True ! while also crushing his way into the wim 15 final dropping only 1 Set on his way with and incredible performance vs prime murray in the semi final.

He also beat Djokovic 3 times and made the F of the WTF’s. Fed 15 season was simply him being the best by a mile over anyone not named Djokovic and he was better than 2017.

Since Djokovic was awol in 2017 imagine he was in 2015 Fed would have had 2 slams 4/5 masters and a WTF

exactly lol. It would have been an absolute beast season from Fed if Novak didnt stop him.

not sure about that. 17 Federer’s baseline game was much stronger than 15, on both sides. He had the 6 months out in 2016 to fine tune his game to the new racket under Ljubicic. Serve and net game a little better in 15.

I think the reason he is mocked is not that he wrongly predicted that per se and had too much confidence (as you say, nobody could have predicted Djoko beating Fed’s records at that time), but that he copy-pasted that over and over again as a decisive discussion-ender as long as his fav was ahead, but now did a 180 and found his love for context, eye-test, “GOAT does not exist”, “slams won as father should count more” and so on.
Yes, his "there am no GOAT" (largely due to Federer being incapable of winning the Grand Slam), threads regurgitating his "Djokovic Wimbledons opponents mean his wins not mean as much as Federer's" desperate nonsense, and let us not forget the ever-ridiculous "career inflation" theory, etc., all to place that tin crown on Federer's head.

2015 his movement was much better than 2017 too. Fed in 2015 while he was slowing down he still glided around the court and his serve and volley was a good bit better than 2017.

I will agree that Fed in 2017 was better from the baseline than 2015 but I still feel 2015 was better. He made 11 finals in 2015 and had a record of 63-11 and if Djokovic wasn’t in his prime he most likely ends that season with a 68-6 record and 11 titles.

The point of this was that Fed really was unlucky as he from 32 to 37 years old was still elite and only Djokovic stopped him.

If i can make a comparison with football federer 2015 is like Messi 2018/2019 maybe he doesnt have that pure overpowered athletic ability anymore ( while he was still very good in that deparment ) just not god mode. he now instead is very complete as a player with the freekicks, the playmaking, he carried the whole barca team back then with his all around game.

It is 9 years ago lol. I need to revisit these old matches.

the same with rafa 2011. he lost 6 (+AO12) big finals vs nole that season. was it not for nole 2011 would be rafas clearly best season.

EDIT
even muzza in 2015-16 lost to nole a lot of big matches:

2015:
AO F
IW SF
miami F
RG SF
shanghai SF
paris F

h2h: 6-1

2016:
AO F
madrid F
RG F

h2h: 3-2

nole is a most common opponent to fed, rafa, muzza and wawa who was the best 4 players after himself in the last 20 years!

17 Federer was light years better than 15 Federer from the baseline. Maybe 15 fed was marginally better on serve&v which counts for little in modern game. 17 Federer as much, much better at both FH and BH, the staple of modern game tennis. 2015 Federer was a weakling vs Djokovic over BO5.

How was 15 Federer better? Did you watch the matches? 15 Djokovic completely dictated him at Wimbledon. 15 Federer had poor tactics, standing too close to baseline, perhaps because he didn’t have the movement or speed to stand further back. Djokovic bossed him. Nowhere near prime Federer in a million years. 2012 Federer wins in 4. I won’t even discuss a peak version like 2005 as it will be a bloodbath.

I've said it before: Djo fans would not give two hoots about Federer in 2015 if he lost in the SF at W and the USO.
