Yes, a race car driver. Just because you watched more Basketball than racing doesnt make it worst list of all time. Any such list is created based on personal interests and opinions. This is not based on any international standards. As a you see in only few responses someone wants Tiger there and someone doesnt.

Lance Armstrong is not number 1 = FAIL
It's a joke? It seems a good list to me. Lance Armstrong was reported using drugs to enhance his performance. No official conclusion then but seriously it shadows his career. And even if he is not a cheater, his carees is not that good to be named in that list. He is not greater than Michael Phelps or anybody else.
I don't think you can actually number the top ten. How can you say Pele was better than Schumacher? Or Ali better than Jordan? Its too difficult to compare sports.
Some of those guys don't belong on the list. Beckenbauer? Come on. Jesse Owens was great... but he dominated one Olympic Games. One.

Tour > Giro
Tour > Vuelta
So...
3 Tours > 1 Tour + 1 Giro + 1 Vuelta
The Tour is much bigger than the other two bigs.

In fairness, half the list is made up of Americans. So we can't complain about anti-American bias.
But I would put Tiger and Lance above that dope smoker Phelps. I'd also put Babe Ruth and Wayne Gretzky ahead of Carl Lewis and Jesse Owens. So to sum up, the list puts too much emphasis on the Olympics for my taste.

But if you consider not only results but fame, social influence, iconic status, etc, you can make such a list.

I have two problems with the list:
The Germans (Schumacher and Beckenbauer)
The Olympians (Owens, Lewis, and Dopehead Phelps)
Take them off, and we're left with:
Muhammad Ali
Pele
Michael Jordan
Roger Federer
Diego Maradona
This is a fine list. Then we could add five others.
The list seems bias to me, 3 football players yet only one basketball player, also Michael Schumacher at number 3
. I was actually a fan of his but I don't think he should be ranked that high. Also, if Fed was on that list, shouldn't there be a place for Laver in there somewhere? I don't care if he should be above or bellow Fed, but I still think there should be a place for him on that list. But no Armstrong, no Tiger, none of the baseball greats, also I'd easily put Garrincha before Beckenbauer. The debate for the greatest football player has usually been between Maradona and Pele, I think they should have put just these 2 on the list.

Soccer is a much bigger sport than Formula 1,tennis, basketball, etc.., at least in Europe, then Maradona needs to be ranked higher than Michael, Roger and others.

That's a thing only between Pele or Maradona. No one else belongs to that discussion at all.
Beckenbauer was great for sure, but putting him above Maradona is just a joke, even in terms of fame, iconic status, etc.

OK It's tough to make a world-list because europe/us/commonwealth
have different sports priorities:
A US based list would have ruth,gretsky,jordan, elway,marino etc..
a europe/sa based list would include many soccer stars.,eg best.cruff etc
a commonwealth based list would include cricketers and rugby players
like shane warne/dannie craven/jpr williams/ sobers etc..
So it's impossible really....formula 1 is a sport...the car goes nowhere

Of course snooker is a sport, and one of the very few sports where the players are true sportsmen. For example declaring fouls on themselves, and playing the game as fairly as possible.
As I've said watch frame 32 of the world snooker championship final from 1994 for an example of terrific sportsmanship.
