The toughest draw of all time: Nadal at Wimbledon 2019

R1: Sugita - warm up match (0.5/5)
R2: Kyrgios - if he brings his A-game, then expect a battle (4/5)
R3: Tsonga - washed up, way past his best (2/5)
Shapo - has yet to go past R2, too inconsistent (1.5/5)
R4: Cilic - his form has been questionable lately and doubt he’ll even make it this far, if he does ...(3/5)
QF: Thiem - on grass? Lol... he’s only been past R4 once (USO) outside of RG, I doubt he’ll even get past Querrey... if he does make it that far... (2/5)
SF: Federer - semis are expected to be tough (4/5)
F: Djokovic - first Wimby final between the two since 2011 (5/5).

That’s potentially 3 tough matches, I have seen plenty more tougher draws than that.

It's more about the type of player. Nadal needs to avoid big servers at Wimbledon especially in the first week. His draw is packed with tall guys shooting down lightning bolts on a court that won't offer anywhere near as much bounce as last year. He won't last the first week with this draw.

Nadal already had little chances to win Wimbledon before the draw (last year he was close to win), but with this draw he has literally no chance. Nor would Federer or Djokovic win with this draw. No one can. This is the toughest draw of all time.

Here is Nadal's draw:

1R: Sugita

2R: Kyrgios

3R: Tsonga/Shapovalov

4R: Cilic

QF: Thiem/Querrey

SF: Federer

F: Djokovic

This is the most brutal draw the history of tennis has ever seen. Not even the US Open 1990 comes close to this. Sampras had to defeat Muster, Lendl, McEnroe and Agassi to win the US Open 1990. But Muster, Lendl, McEnroe and Agassi "only" sum 23 Majors between the four, while Cilic, Federer and Djokovic sum 36 Grand Slams between the three. McEnroe, Lendl and Agassi are "weak" ATG compared to Federer and Djokovic.
Whoever made this draw is trying to get Thiem and Nadal out of Wimbledon to clear a path to the finals for Federer.

Really, this is the worst possible draw any normal Nadal fan could imagine. Nadal couldn't get it tougher while Djokovic couldn't get it easier. Just a repeat of USO 2018.

Unbelievable draw another reason to show Wimby hugely favours Fed... They don't want to give Nadal any more chances to come close to Fed's record

All I can say is about time. Nadal has been incredibly lucky when it comes to slam draws in recent times.
He had really tough competition at Wimbeldon 2018/USO 2018. He had a tough draw in AO 2017 and AO 2018. Faced Djokovic playing at his 2011/2015 level in the AO 2019 final. The FO paths were easier but your way under-looking some of the draws. Faced in-form Muller in Wimbledon 2017 too.

And Nadal doesn't need easy draws in RG. He won it 12 times, he can win with any kind of draw if he plays well.

He will beat them all and claim the title.

I think he can win regardless if on song .But better to face 2017-19 Thiem as a main rival than have 2005-2007 Federer on clay as a rival like he did when he was winning in his earlier years.

If you are serious about this, it’s enough to discredit literally everything you’ve ever posted on this forum. It’s just as likely Nadal will have a 2nd round walkover.

draw drama is one thing, just wait until court assignment drama where yet again couch potatoes who should be able to watch any match they want and can still see their favs through the tv or laptop will complain about where their fav ends up and takes it personally on behalf of their favorite and think its a slight against them rather than well market forces dictate where players land up and when a big player is on a smaller court it is a treat for fans there.

By week two the grass will be dirt anyways... The only dangerous floater would be Kyrgios in 2nd round. Nadal's fresh off a 3-set win against Fed so the edge belongs to Rafa. Djokovic is another animal, if it's him in the final. WIMBLEDON 2019 IS UPON US!!!!!!

Who?

2R: Kyrgios

Clown.

3R: Tsonga/Shapovalov

Hasbeen/Some punk kid.

4R: Cilic

An utter mug as has been often said by Nadal fans.

QF: Thiem/Querrey

CC specialist/Simple Jack (@Hitman tm)

SF: Federer

A 40 year old mental weakling with a crappy BH who only ever won titles against clowns, mugs, injured players and toddlers.

F: Djokovic

The only decent opponent should he reach the final.

This is the most brutal draw the history of tennis has ever seen.

Genius thread, seriously. Build up your guy to have the hardest and best earned slam of all time by going through the ultimate gauntlet. When he wins, he just accomplished the most difficult slam in history.

If he loses, well, it is to be expected as this is the "toughest draw of all time." Simply got cheated by Wimbledon.

Win win. Pure genius.:p
Hang on a sec. Did I not see threads after threads about Rafa getting handed cupcake draws.

Seriously. What do you want from him. Tough draw it's a problem. Easy draw it's a problem. Maybe you are the problem.

Nadal got royally screwed. He probably won't make it far with this kind of draw.

But at least the consolation for Rafa is that he probably wasn't winning even with an easy draw. At this stage in his career it doesn't make a difference whether he loses in R4 or the final.

Time to set sights at the UsOpen for Nadal camp. He needs to beef up his serves and ROS, as decoturf does take his spin well. So he has an outside chance in the UsOpen - especially if Djokovic gets upset, however unlikely that is.

Back to Wimbledon: Let's hope that it is a competitive final. To me it looks like it will be either be Fed or a first time slam finalist from the bottom half.

Both of them will be demolished by Djokovic. Seems a little weird got Djoker to have as many Wimbledons as Borg. It's crazy that Novak won so much on his weaker surface.

I want people to look at things realistically. If you think this is the hardest draw of all time... than YOU have a problem.

On paper, it's potentially pretty tough, due to Nick in Round 2 and Cilic in Round 4. Of course, as a #3, he should get #2 (Fed) in the semis. We'll see how it all plays out.

I can’t see why this draw is tougher than any of the 2008-2012 draws for Federer and Djokovic where they have play each other in the SF and potentially face the Nadal in the final.
Hmm...Maybe because he has an EXTREMELY difficult opponent in the second round?

I want Rafa to win so bad, but i'm also straight down the bookies for a 2nd round loss to Krygios. If he comes through Krygios and Cilic in 4 sets each then he can win it.

Kyrgios took out nadal in 2014 at Wimbledon Anything is possible. Nadal will have to play well in rounds 2 through 4. I don’t think the quarterfinals would be difficult.

The lynchpin here is Cilic. How he plays will determine how hard Nadal's draw really is.

If he plays like he did the past few years, then Nadal absolutely has a brutal draw. But if he plays like he has been in 2019, he won't even be there in the quarters, let alone capable of taking out Rafa. He's a tough opponent in name only atm.

Pantera

This looks tougher than it is. kyrgios unlikely to make it and if he does Nadal will hammer him. Tsonga is way past it...cilic is not the player he was, querrey probably in the quarters and Federer is past it as well.

Avoiding Djokovic was the key until final.

Right now it doesn't look like there is a chance Nadal will get to Cilic. Hard to see him beating Kyrgios on grass.

Lol at the reverse jinxing going on.

Remember when he was talked about as this brutal 3R opponent for Fed in NY? He went down in straights and pretty much started tanking after the first set.

Kyrgios, Thiem, cilic, Fed, Djokovic to get to a title?

Its one of the toughest, make no mistake. (Nadal would need to be 22 again to get through this draw) Only one tougher in recent memory from what I can remember is Pete's 2001 USO draw With Rafter, Safin,, Agassi, Hewitt
How bout Djokovic's 2012 AO draw? Hewitt, Ferrer, Murray, Nadal? Not quite Sampras 02 standard, but the amount of sheer grit and endurance it took Novak to win that one is one for the history books.
