Welcome to the dark side! :p

He scored and got 5 points.

Not worth £15.3m.

You had Wissa, I had Cunha.. both scored double the points for almost 3x less :p

Even if he scored twice, he’d still be too expensive imo.

Like those teams have to start 5+ below average players to fit him in, whilst we get to pick Salah, Mbeumo, Diaz, Palmer, Saka etc..

Feels like the robot has score a hat-trick each week just to break even.
Took my time crossing over. Yes, it did feel weird having the extra cash and thinking you can bring in anybody you want and also upgrade, instead of being at 0.1 in the bank. It has been a reasonable day. Had dreams of mighty high scores after Evanilson and Wissa scored in the first half, but still happy enough. Some things will never change, the defense coming home with a couple of points. Trent off injured is unfortunate. Need Mazraoui to level up tomorrow. He's another that seems to be doing well on the pitch but it doesn't translate to FPL points.

Rashford being back in does feel like something thought up in the Queen Vic after a few too many pints. ''But, Grant. There is no football. There is no ITV. ''

Yeah Trent is a shame, those extra 5 points he would’ve got would’ve been most welcome. But not to be, he decided to be like his hero, Reece James, and went in the fetlock :)

But yes, it’s been fun! Quite a few big names playing tomorrow so we should be in for some more shake up.

Were you the one who wanted De Zerbi here? I talk to too many Chelsea fans. One of them was adamant RDZ was the man.

Well, he’s just offered his resignation at Marseille. 4 months into the job.

Was open to it! We we at the stage where it was Frank, McKenna, Maresca or De Zerbi :-D

Yikes. Maresca so far has been decent. Some minor complaints but he seems to be doing a good job. Better than Pochettino and Potter at least.

I think Frank would’ve been ok. I reckon he would’ve been about as good as Poch if not a little better. His football is based on results purely. Better players for him you could expect better results. But he wouldn’t have progressed us much over the years.

De Zerbi and McKenna would’ve been absolute disasters. I don’t even wanna think about the circus we would’ve been seeing.

I think the football will take time. He’s tried a lot of interesting things, most of them have worked, with the execution from the players being a bit inconsistent. That’s normal. It will take time, some tweaks to the squad over the coming windows might be needed too. A big number 9, a CB who covers vast spaces so the team isn’t countered as often etc.. both profiles are missing, but unlock so many things. It’s 90% there though.

Then you’ve got the inexperience, which will again take time. Things like the Man Utd game. A mature team would know the euphoric crowd would turn sour if you swarmed them and asserted yourselves. “Here we go again, ETH has gone but we’re still losing. It’s Spurs and Liverpool all over again”.. but they played a bit timid and lacked energy against a team that was there for the taking. Switched off mentally for a second against Liverpool after equalising is another. We’re still waiting for the boys to become men, essentially. Maybe it will happen quickly (today v Arsenal will be nice), or maybe it’ll be a slower process.

The one thing we know for sure is Maresca is excellent with the communication (to players and media). I’m very confident he’s the right man. Just a time thing. Give it to him and we should be contending for the league and winning CL knockout games in a couple of years. Is he the man to win leagues and CL’s? Who knows, that’s like 7 levels above where we’re at right now. Cross that bridge when we come to it :D

Villarreal have made a flying start in La Liga, and are in 3rd place, with their only defeats so far this season against the Barcelona / Real gruesome twosome.

I tend to think that over the course of 21st century, and relative to resources, they've been the single biggest success story all things considered in La Liga during the 21st century. The fact that they've qualified for European competitions so regularly, and have been so well run behind the scenes, has been incredible. Valencia rescinding the contract of their club captain and one of their best and most influential players Dani Parejo in 2020, and allowing him to leave on a free transfer to their local rivals Villarreal, is one of the biggest transfer blunders of modern times.

It's clearly a tough time for Valencia, with a disastrous start to their season, and their last 2 La Liga games understandably being postponed due to the tragic and deadly floods. Clearly football is irrelevant compared to all of that, and it's going to be difficult for an already badly struggling team to regroup when their campaign restarts again.

I think Valencia getting relegated from La Liga, would probably be a bigger deal all things considered than any relegation from the top flight in England during the Premier League era. We were relegated 4 years after winning the title, but then we won the title 3 years after being promoted, and of course were / are nowhere near as big as Valencai. I remember Atleti getting relegated in 2000 with a team including Hasselbaink (the 2nd highest scorer in La Liga that season), Kiko, Solari, Valerón, Baraja, Molina, Capdevila etc. The lunatic president Jesús Gil (who threatened to feed the players to his pet crocodile) and Claudio Ranieri (despite working in chaotic circumstances) failed badly there.

There are very few Premier League teams I enjoy watching more than Brighton. When they're playing well, they have so many attacking options to hurt their opponents. Bringing on from João Pedro and Matt O'Riley from the bench paid dividends. It was a wonderful story for O'Riley to score the winner on his Premier League debut, after he suffered a nasty ankle injury when he made his full debut in the League Cup.

They the way they've picked themselves up after disappointing results, or halves during games in some cases, has been impressive.

Apart from the way that they handled Gus Poyet's sacking in 2013 (he found out when working for the BBC as part of their summer Confederations Cup coverage), and the appointment of Sami Hyypia, their hierarchy haven't got a lot wrong during his 15 years or so at the helm there. After sacking Poyet, even though it was handled so badly, they still made the Championship playoffs again the next season, and after Hyppia's disastrous spell in charge, they corrected that by replacing him with Chris Hughton. They were criticised for letting Hughton go, after he got them to the Premier League and kept there for 2 seasons. But replacing him with Potter helped them to progress with both better results and a better style of football. And after Potter left, De Zerbi was a very successful replacement.

Clearly eventually they'll struggle to keep suffficiently replacint key players that leave, make a managerial appointment that fails etc., but the fact that they've kept this going for so long already is impressive enough.

Was interested to hear from a lot of Brighton fans, they are all so happy Bobby Zebra left. His haircut got mentioned a few times, how ''you can never trust anybody with that cut.'' LOL

There was a lot of other things but I'll leave it there.

In the meantime Arsenal scored, but Neto has just found the back of the net, kid. 1-1.

I'm going to check out some of the Braga vs Sporting match hopefully.

Looking forward to a nice Braga-Sporting (in the stadium) and then Benfica-Porto (in the bar in the stadium) double header.

I told the Braga fans I’m with that I hope Carlos Carvalhal emulates my achievements with them on Football Manager.

Given that Sporting poached Amorim from them during the 2019/2020 season after winning the league cup, it’s safe to say that they are not overly sympathetic to Sporting’s plight with him being poached away from them during the middle of this season.

The fact that I don’t have to worry about Joe Rankin-Costello making a huge blunder every time he touches the ball, will make this even more enjoyable.

A pretty awesome game today for the captain. 250th appearance. I think Marky hypes up things a bit too much, we saw it more when Man Utd would win a game with Ten Hag, and he'd be all, ''celebrate the good times, told ya so.'' But, no doubt, Ugarte was good today.

Looking all too easy for Liverpool right now. City, take a knee, take that 8 count, but get your sh1t together. Wow, almost sounds like I'm supporting City. Yeah, ''good for the league and all,'' but it's still Liverpool.

Braga giving Sporting the beatings. 2-0 at half time, 2 goals for Ricardo Horta.

Narrowing edging out your Wladimir Kiltschko fandom.
''David Haye said some nasty things about me and my brother. Tomorrow night, I'm going to punish David Haye.''

And he did, poor David exposed on the biggest stage.

2-2 now. Come on, Sporting.

I do think there was some truth to Haye's toe but he needed to not mention it. Made him look bad and all the promises pre fight.

AWK.
He did say some funny things like - ''I can't allow you and your brother to hold the heavyweight division hostage.''
:D

Sounds like Steve Owen trying to take on the Mitchell's.

Fury was the man in the end not Haye :D. I need to add that one onto the tier list because Fury's movement for a man that size shouldn't be allowed.

I used to love the build ups (Fury-Wilder was the last one I followed properly). I don't bother following it anymore I just want them to fight and that's it.

Maybe feels a bit too scripted but this felt real tbf.

Yeah I’ll take the draw. Good way to respond going down late in the game. We escaped two big 6 games with draws. We have a horrible record in those usually so this is good.

This was the opening 10. We played Arsenal in the 11th, so have surely overtaken Bournemouth.

3rd place after the second most difficult fixtures so far isn’t so bad.

Now the “easy” games come. Between now and February the only difficult games are Spurs and Villa, the rest are all promoted teams, bottom half teams and a rogue Fulham in there.

Generally, we’ve been destroying the easier teams. We also have a B team whilst the rest are fighting for their lives playing 4 games in 10 days during the crazy December schedule.

Throw in the fact we should continue to improve as the season goes on and Maresca’s ideas become second nature. It’s a decent position, I think.

It’s very Chelsea to fluff the easy games so I’m not holding my breath. I think we’ll be in a good spot though. I think it’s too early to talk about a title but Top 4 is there. A good run of form and we can secure ourselves a return to UCL football.

We need a trophy, though. Now that we’ve been dumped out of the League Cup, the FA Cup or Conference League is must win. The squad is too good to go trophyless when one of the available trophies has Legia Warsaw as a top club.

Also: 3 years without a trophy is too much for a club like Chelsea. I’d blow a fuse if this occurred. Cmon Chels.

Yeah, no doubt we will drop points where we shouldn’t. I think most teams will, to be fair. Liverpool are the only ones immune to it, so far.

Top 4 is the big aim for me. CL is a non negotiable. Finally able to get a shirt sponsor who offers more than £69 a year, be able to attract players etc.. if we think a Diomande, Sesko, Gyokeres or anyone in demand is coming to a Europa League (or worse) side, it ain’t happening. We experienced that last summer.

Trophy would be nice, but I think the cups mean more to squad harmony. Can you imagine the B team if we’re out of everything by February? 3 months of them not getting a game could get ugly.

Is this the most excited you've been for a United managerial appointment since Sir Alex hung up the boots whip.
It was probably Jose Mourinho but Amorim has to run him close when you think of him being one of the up and coming studs, he's not past his prime, haha I won't say he's not past his peak because you never know if he will have any success here, and then his success with Sporting ends up being his peak. Hopefully, I'm just rambling and he does have a glorious time at United.

I am very excited about it. It was doom and gloom for so long. Once again, it might still be doom and gloom on down the line, but at least I've been pulled out of it for now. The reason for optimism stage.
