The TT Football Club

We are not getting the Sesko start tonight. On the bench once more. There is one change, Yoro in for Martinez. All we know is that the injury is ''not thought to be long-term.'' That makes what I said earlier quite understandable.

Michael Carrick said the usual line - '' Sesko is ready, but managing him.''

Well anyway, Let's go.

Gotta agree with Slice, this is a Sesko game. Really just need one moment(s) (FC) of brilliance.

Get in

Somebody needs to snap that Tarkowski guy in half. Only looked for trouble all game long.

Good result. And suddenly Villa are catchable as well...

I enjoyed how cool, calm and collected that finish was. As great as the goal was the other week, people may claim it was lucky, or sometihng that might only happen once out of 8 times or something. This time, he had time to think, and boom.

Another fine game for the keeper. Yeah, yeah, simple saves and catches that anybody can make, apparently. But we know not all keepers make it look that way.

Couldn’t even beat Burnley lol. The bane of this clubs existence is having to see out results against bottom tier clubs. It is genuinely impossible for them to do it.

45 minutes to go. Cmon @TheAssassin
Amazing! So pleased for them and @TheAssassin

@El Joc Màgic , your boys should take some notes. Inter weren't that difficult to figure out.

We’ve got teams from Norway (who are playing preseason). Beating Man City, Atletico, Inter x2 and bantering Barcelona :-D who doesn’t love football eh?

I was looking at the draw, seems like it’ll either be Man City or Sporting Lisbon next. I’d say they’ve got a decent chance against both. Man City at the Etihad would be tricky, but why not?

We all know it will be Real Madrid Man City lmao. “Random” draw :D

Probably! Something not quite right about how often they play each other.

I like Man City’s domestic cup draws. It’s usually Salford, Crawley, Oldham, Non league story of the season… all at home. Then they have to play a decent team because that’s all that’s left :-D

It’s Newcastle or PSG for us. Think I’d rather play PSG.

The only thing we have going for us is despite being a fairly weak, unathletic side lacking physicality (in the Premier League). Against the rest of Europe? We look like the Monstars. Even Spurs manage to look good in Europe against teams who are small, need 5 seconds to make a decision and jog around.

How on earth are Utd 4th even with the atrocious performances and results under Ruben.
It's the best league in the world, guv. Teams were taking points off other teams, and we weren't exactly the worst team in the world under Ruben Amorim. He still managed to pick up the odd result. Carrick's unbeaten at the moment, only 2 points dropped, so it isn't really that revolutionary or anything.

Bodo gonna get raided unfortunately, they'll contribute well to the Norweigan squad at the World Cup.

Opted for Juventus v Galatasary again. It didn’t disappoint.

I tuned in for the Juventus downfall, but they actually put up a hell of fight, fair play to them.

Galatasary on the other hand, seem to buy players based on how unhinged they are. Punched a team mate in the past? Fallen out with every manager you’ve played under? Legs gone? They’ll take them at Galatasary.

No doubt they’re mercurial on their day, but they’re just as likely to throw their toys out the pram, go missing and have their start striker say he wants to join the opposition team the night before the game :-D

Anyway, here’s the path. Just have to see how it shakes out on Friday. I’d say the top bit looks the most interesting. PSG, Barcelona, Chelsea and Newcastle. All have a guaranteed tough game next and are more than capable of beating each other.

Liverpool in their section look fairly comfortable. Arsenal and Bayern have it straightforward. Man City and Madrid avoiding each other should make things pretty easy for them too.

Chance decided to pit them against each other again. Ha that's one way to describe it, I guess. Yet my mind wanders and I reckon they started working on the Chelsea vs PSG video packages months ago. Revenge for the world championship final.
The Champions League round of 16 draw produced big surprises... or lack of surprises, as Real Madrid vs. Manchester City seem to meet every single year in Champions League knockout stages. Chance decided to pit Madrid vs. City again, and it will be the 16th official match between the two teams since 2013, tenth time in the last four years, in each of the last five seasons and in six of the last seven

Their last match was only two months ago, in December 10, when City beat Madrid 2-1 at the Bernabéu in the league phase. However, last year, Madrid beat City twice in a row in the knockout phase play-offs, 2-3 at the Etihad and 3-1 at the Bernabéu.

In their 15 official games, Real Madrid has won 5 times, City has won 5 times, and there have been 5 draws.

Atleti will probably win 6 or 7-0 on aggregate.

Saw Diego Simeone’s reaction, he said “Tottenham Hotspur in the UCL Round of 16? I'm thinking about Real Oviedo.”

Oviedo will pose a much tougher challenge.

The one half of the draw is all powerhouses and the other is very barren . Though I have quickly fallen in love with the Bodø team. City is licking the proverbial not having to get destroyed by them again.

Every team who has won the UCL in the last decade is on one side of the draw :-D

The only team to ever win it in their history on the other side of the draw? Barcelona.

30 European Cups v 5.

Surely we need to go back to the old way of doing things where there’s excitement for the draw every round instead of doing it all at once?

Maybe it still pans out like this, but the bottom half (an entire days worth of football) is borderline unwatchable. Like Spurs v Newcastle and Arsenal v Sporting in the QF of the UCL? Eesh.

Why does Arsenal seem more hated than the other big English clubs? Annoying fanbase?
For me, it's really down to Arsenal being the biggest rivalry for Man Utd during my lifetime. The mid 90s into the 2000s was the peak of life. The Van Nistelrooy penalty miss and the aftermath were a wild third act, even though we still had to end their unbeaten run later on, genius from Henry all the time. Arsene and Arsenal, the perfect match, really. What's not to hate?

I don't really pay much attention to how a fanbase is carrying on. I just know people, and know there can be unsavoury individuals (HA) with every fanbase. Maybe some louder than others, I don't know.

I think it’s some mix of them being a bit Spursy (failing to win for so long), so rival fans don’t want to have to stop reminding them. And the fans, they are quite insufferable. They seem to look down on every other club, think they’re more special than they are, entitled, cringey. There’s that one post where someone said “oh look, another Arsenal fan explaining something”. Arsenal Fan TV. The list goes on.

In slightly related news, Villa lost to Wolves. Hopefully we can dent the Arsenal title hopes on Sunday, and climb to within 3 of Villa. We then play them at Villa Park on Wednesday. Win there and we go above.

Personally I don’t think we’ll beat either Villa or Arsenal, but still, would make things interesting. Before tonight’s game it was looking like we could’ve gone into that game 9 points behind. Lose to Villa too and it would be 12. Top 5 race over by the end of February.

Seeing Atletico Madrid in the same quarter of the draw wasn't pleasant at all, considering the previous continental clashes with them and what happened a couple of weeks ago. But considering the alternative draw scenarios, can't really complain.

Anyway, Newcastle United in the last 16 stage. Nearly quarter of a century since the last couple of meetings with them, when Newcastle were then managed by the guy we remember fondly as well. Sir Bobby Robson, bless his soul. I can't say I have watched much of the Premier League this season to be specific with how I expect the matches will look like, just hoping for no upset in this tie.

Perhaps we shall rewatch the tie in more detail for next season. Bodo already did the good deed for this one. ;) Truly inspirational story, they have my support for going beyond the current stage. And I will definitely do my best to watch Norway's national team during the upcoming World Cup. You have potential for being much more than just some unexpected participants, which is great especially since a lot of time has passed since the last time you qualified.

Newcastle have been pretty poor in the league, but looked good in Europe. They’ve got a bit of the Tottenham syndrome :D

The second leg at home is an advantage, but right now I’d probably pick Newcastle, personally. St James’ Park, their physicality is double that of what Chelsea threw at Barcelona. They’ve got ridiculous pace, enough quality defenders to put out two excellent teams and they’ve been incredibly strong in one off/knockout games over the last few years.

I can’t see us beating PSG, but before the draw was made? I’d have taken PSG over Newcastle.

Funny thing is, if we did get Newcastle, we would’ve played them 3 times in the space of 8 days. I think we would’ve needed a standing 8 count by half time of the second game :-D

At least with PSG it’s just a game about quality. With Newcastle it’s slightly less quality, but their intangibles are things most big teams can’t compete with. That’s what makes them dangerous imo.

As everyone is a Chelsea fan today and will actually sit down and watch, I thought it would be fun to play a little game.

  1. Which player(s) will be sent off?
  2. Which 10 minute period will they decide to shart the bed and start running round like Rosenior’s PS5 controller has disconnected?

Both things are guaranteed. The one who gets closest to the right answers wins bragging rights :)
