Luiz is actually pretty good, he's just prone to having lapses in concentration and moments where he does some strange things. Those really stand out and get highlighted, which is understandable.

He has pace, is strong in the air and is great with the ball at his feet though. In a defence that has been bad anyway over the last 18 months? That's a definite upgrade. Especially if 3 at the back works out, he can make up for Terry and Cahill being slow, their positioning can cover up for his mental lapses.

Him being there can improve the whole defensive unit, if it's handled right. Conte seems like a manager who can make it work, I just wish he had pre season to do it and not 3 games into the season.

  2. It's been a huge transfer window for the Premier League. The clubs have spent an incredible total of 1.165.000.000 pounds this summer. It's the first time that 1 billion mark was crossed. Also, 13 clubs have broken their personal record (referring here to spending on one player, not the entire spending in one transfer window).

    Top 10 transfers:

Paul Pogba to Manchester United from Juventus - 89m
John Stones to Manchester City from Everton - 47,5m
Leroy Sane to Manchester City from Schalke - 37m
Shkodran Mustafi to Arsenal from Valencia - 35m
David Luiz to Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain - 34m
Sadio Mane to Liverpool from Southampton - 34m
Granit Xhaka to Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach - 33,8m
Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea from Marseille - 33m
Mousa Sissoko to Tottenham from Newcastle - 30m
N'Golo Kante to Chelsea from Leicester - 30m

Manchester clubs spent the most, over 150m each.

So, Real Madrid spent on only one player (only 4 out of other 19 clubs in Spain spent less than them) while Barcelona spent over 100 million in this transfer window.

What do you have to say about that @Tiki-Taka @Noleberic123 ? :D

That the guy in my avatar is going crush them.

  6. Very odd, because Real Madrid also won't be able to purchase anyone from this point until 2018.

La Masia is starting to die.

That's quite optimistic since the guy hasn't scored in that fixture in over 2 years now.

Their squad is complete. An upgraded version of Morata is now back so they have another great source for goals.

It's a pity we couldn't keep up with the recent standard but I am sure the academy will continue to produce new world class players.

Modern football requires defenders that don't know how to defend.

haha I'm just picturing some nasty stuff. Prison Break stuff. If you can't defend, there are other ways to make me happy. :p

If modern football didn't require defenders that know how to defend, we could be sitting on the GOAT defender (if healthy) with Phil Jones. He is it

  13. Fellaini and Mkhitaryan are doubtful for the derby.

Meanwhile, Schweinsteiger has been included in Man United's Premier League squad.

Mkhitaryan should be sweet for the derby. He was just taken off as precaution. Bastian can come on in the 92 minute when United are beating City 3-0.

In other news, Paul Scholes is impressed.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Scholes said: "The quality of the players he (Mourinho) has brought in, that's the biggest difference.

The previous managers (David Moyes and Louis van Gaal) took a risk by playing some players that could have worked but probably didn't work as well as they should have done.

"But he [Mourinho] brought in ready made players. That was what was needed, ready made players for the Premier League. It wasn't the right time for Mourinho to take risks''

Aguero banned for 3 matches and he will miss the Manchester derby. Good stuff. No more than he deserved. Maybe less.

Much as I'd like to defend Aguero and say it wasn't deserved given who they are playing next. There can be no complaints whatsoever. Throwing your elbow into someone's face is just unacceptable. Three game ban certainly warranted in my opinion. But Fellaini should probably be banned from playing football again seeing as he does it in basically every single game.

EPL is doing a fine job with suspending the players after the match. Other leagues, especially La Liga, should take notes.

  19. Certain Barcelona and Real Madrid players would extremely suffer if La Liga had rules like EPL.

It just comes naturally to Fellaini. With Aguero, it is more noticeable that he is trying to gain an advantage because elbow attacks are not usually his go to move. I just think it is accepted that it is part of Fellaini game, unless we have something like a Gary Mabutt black and busted eye, then it will be time to put the foot down.

Unless it's players like Costa and Fellaini where it's absurd how often it happens so they punish about 1 in 20 if that.

They just see it so often and think, well it can't be something illegal he does it so often. A double bluff of sorts.

    That's an exaggeration.

Other associations don't even look at the incidents after the match is over. I guess they are too lazy, they would have their hands full.

  23. Dramatic stuff in group F of the World Cup qualification.

Slovenia came back from two goals down to draw against Lithuania away, the final goal coming in the 93rd minute.

England managed to take all three points against Slovakia away thanks to a 95th minute winner.

Good to see Lallana scored the winner for England. Not going to watch a single minute of Allardyce in World Cup qualifiers though if I can help it.

Did see that he says he can't tell Rooney where to play? "Who am I to tell Wayne where to play?" I don't know Sam, probably the exact person who is meant to do that, his ****ing manager.

And people thought he was the best manager available.......

Wayne Rooney will come out with the goalkeeper kit on for their next game.

People will think it is a wind up, until the game starts with Wayne Rooney in nets.

''Sam, what is going on here?''

''I can't tell Wayne where to play.'' Player power killed the manager star.

Maybe Wazza knows something about Sam which gives him control over the manager.

Don't know why would Rooney prefer a midfield role himself though...

A lot of papers reporting breakdown between Jose Mourinho and Matteo Darmian.

Can't argue with Paul Ince here

''Playing Wayne Rooney in midfield is an insult as he does not have the skills to compete against the best in that position.''

They are calling the Derby on Saturday the most high profile match in British top flight history. :D

United getting whipped. City looking like a well oiled machine.

Claudio Bravo found out. United back in the game possibly. If we can get to half time at 1-2

  35. City bossed the majority of that 1st half, luckily United started playing better in the end and have a lifeline now. Shame that Ibra didn't convert one of those two chances for the equalizer. Hopefully we'll be clinical in the 2nd half.

How is that not a penalty? Anti United ref bias on display once more.

City reminding me of glory days United with that counter attacking.

Bravo has a mare on his debut. City were better.

Tennis can't compete with football in terms of nerves and blood pressure. No way. What a game it turned out to be.

City are the measuring stick. This is Sparta, this is football!! Great game. I should be more disappointed. I am, but I'm just happy it became competitive. City came out firing and I was worried about an embarrassing scoreline.

  39. Pity Jose's first home defeat happened so early. OT not back to a fortress yet.

I guess City deserved it. Hope their lead won't last long.

Guardiola schooled Mourinho in the first half.

It wouldn't be undeserved if United got the 2nd goal, but City are better atm.

I saw him make a couple of dribbles, but he wasn't making anything big happen. A shame about Mkhitaryan today. Like the guys in the studio, it was his first game starting, so I am not ready to throw the boot at him. Mostly just hitting long balls and City weren't troubled that much.

We are not the finished article either.

I have the urge to bite today. lol I'm being winded up by somebody close to me at the minute. Brutal, he wont stop sending me memes! I have to laugh, some of them are amusing.

@Slice'n'dice , Yeah, City not at full strength, but we weren't tanked or anything. I wasn't suddenly expecting us to become a dominant force over night. Our seeds are being sown too.

I think it will still be tougher than Novak Djokovic draw so far. :p

Iniesta, Messi and Suarez all on the bench tonight against Alaves. Paco Alcacer to make his debut and join Neymar and Turan in the attacking trio.
