Win one for Ugo, Spurs! Overtake The Blues!
Costa and Hazard rested. Ake in for Cahill and half the team have had the same illness for the best part of the week?
I think everybody had been looking forward to this game since the draw was made, it had the potential to be one for the ages. Such a shame it probably won't be what it could of been.
Off to a good start.
Yeah! It's been a good game, both sides having their moments. Costa and Hazard make things more interesting (for varying reasons ), but the game hasn't missed them so far.
That slide tackle for the penalty.
Entertaining match. Great goal from Matic.
WHAT A GOAL
What a dynamite strike.. Gerrard would have been proud of a contact that pristine.
Damn it Spurs. All three left in the competition now are pure evil.
Matic my man though.
Spurs played really well I thought, as they have done on their winning run. You have to wonder if how easy those games were might of had an impact today though.
Spurs really couldn't of hand picked an easier handful of games leading up to today, whilst Chelsea have had tests against a team in form and both Manchester clubs.
Who knows! Great game nonetheless.
True, and I thought Spurs would win for all those reasons. Fair play to Chelsea for proving me wrong, not the first time either.
Got to be the favorites now against the finalist, whoever it turns out to be.
Chelsea just had that little bit more and having the option to bring Hazard and Costa off the bench. Spurs kept up with them for a while and maybe could have gone ahead when it was 2-2.
In other news Bayern Munich dropped points again, won only one of their last four Bundesliga matches. Maybe still crushed from the CL elimination. Pity they already created a big gap before this otherwise Leipzig would have had a good opportunity to catch them.
It's a big day today, it's El Clasico. A 5 year long La Liga drought would realistically end with a win over Barcelona at the Bernabeu. Come on CR7 and co!
Hopefully it's Arsenal
Can't decide who to root for in the final. Wouldn't want Chelsea to win both but wouldn't want Arsenal to have more cups than us. But it's nice that City played 120 minutes. Maybe won't be able to watch the derby but still, hoping for a good result.
Third straight win for Palace against Liverpool at Anfield. I imagine not many teams have such a streak. With a win away against Burnley, Manchester United are still alive in the race for CL spots, and the goal difference isn't so inferior anymore either, anything can happen.
Feyenoord all set to win the dutch title after the results today. 4 points clear with two games to go.
Would be their first title since 1999! Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the gaffer.
Rakitic, you beauty.
LEO YOU GOAT! 500TH BARCELONA GOAL, VAMOS!
RONALDO THIS, RONALDO THAT. SHUT THE FÙCK UP
This is not good for my heart but I love it! Glorious finish!
I hate both Barca and RM so i was hoping the referee would win, but at least this makes the title race more interesting. RM haven't looked that amazing in La Liga this season and have had to grind out a lot of wins.
Win or lose maybe Atletico can tire RM out in those two Champions League semi-final matches, which would then have a knock on effect in the title race.
It would be funny if RM blew this, as then would we could all laugh at them for only winning 1 La Liga title in 9 years despite spending a bottomless pit of money on players. Then again a Barcelona team who have also been pretty poor this season some snatching this title wouldn't look good either
Choosing between whether I want Barcelona or Real Madrid to win the title is like choosing which of my fingers I want to have cut off first.
Level on points but Real Madrid still have a game in hand.
Los Blancos must thank Raúl González Blanco instead of Ronaldo ?
For many years now, for both us and Real Madrid, a season without La Liga or Champions League is considered a complete failure. That's what will most probably happen to us this time.
But my God, after the epic comeback against Paris Saint Germain and an injury time winner at Santiago Bernabeu, I will NOT complain!
VISCA EL BARCA!
I'll hold you to that. Any complaining before the end of the season and you will be sent to the dugout.
Is it too late to take back what I said?
haha I could never hold anybody to that if football (or any sport) is concerned. You just never know when the next bad decision will come and how it will get the emotions going etc. The heat of the moment.
And of course let's not forget the man of the match.
Already an all-time top goalscorer of El Clasico, but he didn't score in this fixture in the last 3 years.
Kicked during the entire match, even to that point that he was spitting blood. It's fine, he scores a beautiful goal to tie the game.
Once again a victim of Ramos' barbarism. It's fine, he scores a 92nd minute winner, which was also an incredible 500th goal for Barcelona.
Ladies and gentlemen, Lionel Messi.
"Say my name, Madrid! Say the name of the GOAT!"
Heartbreaking to be honest. What a bunch of clowns, letting this happen during the turning point of the season. A demanding semifinal tie with Atletico that can tire them out even more and some tough remaining games in La Liga. One more loss and Barca are on top of the table thanks to a better head to head. Morons.
Messi showing what he is made of, his greatness I have never and will never deny. Well done.
"Messi. You can drop a tarantula into his shorts and he'd still be cool"
ROFLMAO, never change, Ray Hudson.
PFA Player of the Year
The consummate pro being acknowledged by his fellow professionals. Delighted for him.
Wonder if he'll win the football writers award too or if that'll go to Hazard in a few weeks time.
Have to mention Alli here aswell, back-to-back young player of the year awards. He has the potential to be better than Gerrard and Lampard imo, only question mark is if he has the work ethic, mental strength, leadership etc.. That they both did.
Ramos seems to have returned to his old habits. Is Pepe even coming back in time?
Cuz who is gonna play as defender instead of Ramos now?
I doubt he is, two broken ribs will keep him out for a few more games at least.
No idea. Nacho is the only fit and available defender right now. Varane had an injury earlier this month and hasn't played since, I don't know if he will be back soon. Here is hoping.
Probably a little bit of both.
Although I hear Iago Aspas is going to score directly from a corner, so you'll have that to contend with.
Alonso's an interesting shout. In terms of picking an unfashionable or unknown sort of signing and having him be so effective you could make a case I suppose, certainly think consideration should be taken for that sort of signing for sure, like Michu for Swansea a few seasons back. Obviously Kante and Ibrahimovic were great players so were always likely to be pretty good so it's sort of easier to pick out such a player than to pick one out of obscurity.
Well let me tell you something more about Celta. In their last two visits to Celta's stadium, Barcelona lost both times, conceding four goals on both occasions. Also, Celta knocked out Real Madrid from the Spanish cup this season, winning at the Bernabeu and drawing at Balaidos, their home ground. They are pretty much the reason why Real aren't on course for the treble now. If arguably two best teams in the world are having issues with Celta, there is no reason to think it will be sleepwalk for the current Man United side.
You keep trying to convince yourself Man Utd haven't had a dream Europa League make up all you like. Crystal Palace beat Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, but it doesn't mean that if Barcelona or Real Madrid wouldn't be rubbing their hands with glee if they had to come up against them in a European match up.
Just enjoy the fact you've got an easy run of it, no need to try and pretend you haven't.
Real and Barcelona are in a league of their own, better than any Premier League team including Man United and the ones that Crystal Palace beat, and Celta have caused problems to them two more than once recently, it's not like they had just one of those flukes that happen to lesser sides once in a while. Just because there are no other English teams left in the competition doesn't mean it's an easy run, in fact they are the ones that have sucked for a few years now while Spain has dominated both European competitions.
There is nothing to enjoy when the team hasn't been convincing against weaker sides than Celta while the depth of the squad is just getting worse with recent injuries that have arrived with over 50 games played so far.
Dangerous side, people outside La Liga in general don't give enough credit to mid table teams here.
Btw, Real Madrid's game in hand is against Celta away. I hope they won't roll over in that one just so they could fully concentrate on the Europa League semifinal.
I'm sure they are a decent side (I heard Iago Aspas has turned into a good player since going back?) but Celta Vigo in the Semi-finals of a European competition is pretty good, I think most teams would take that as a good draw. Likewise with Lyon and Ajax. Decent sides but as the cream of a competition. Compared to last year it really is night and day.
Congrats to Rafa's Newcastle for securing their promotion back into the Premier League to join Brighton. Now for one of Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town, Fulham and Leeds to join them through the play offs. Quite like to see Sheffield Wednesday back personally.
Oh yeah, no doubt he isn't as headline grabbing as Zlatan or Kante, who have both been excellent in their own right. Chelsea were every bit as bad as last season during the opening 6 weeks of this campaign though, then the system changed and the rest is history. Would that change of been possible without Alonso? I highly doubt it. We would of been looking at Azpilicueta or Pedro playing left wing back, Terry playing in the middle etc..
So in terms of impact, he would get my vote.
I'm hoping for Sheffield Wednesday too. I wouldn't mind Fulham either, they have some great young talent and a good manager. I think they will move on in the summer if they don't go up this time, which would be a shame.
Yeah there's a few of those type of players I'm sure, haven't watched enough of Chelsea to really judge his season but obviously in that system having the right people at wing back is crucial and obviously Chelsea've been great this season so there's definitely an argument for him.
Thing with Fulham is Liverpool are linked with that 16 year old kid starting at left back for them and with them staying in the Championship it'd probably be easier to sign him and be cheaper so for that reason I'd like them not to go up. Can't say I've seen much of him, but if you are starting in the Championship at 16 for a promotion chasing team then you must have something about you.
I believe the children are our future, don't get in their way, let them lead the way.
My own version of Randy Watson.
The kids are alright.
For someone like this Man United it shouldn't be bad since they are more like a Champions League team in terms of quality, it's a really solid opportunity for them. I think it was definitely a stronger semifinal line-up last year with two stronger La Liga teams, Liverpool and Europa league regulars Shakhtar, and there was Dortmund one round earlier as well. This one is not to be underestimated either however.
I would like any of the Yorkshire teams.
If you have about 40 free minutes, I have a suggestion how to spend them.
Just heard he only got a one match suspension ( ). Surely Real can survive that long.
