I am a Real Madrid fan but he will never be bigger than the club. If he wants to leave then set the transfer fee for him. I will appreciate what he did for us but i feel he will regret the move. The grass's never greener on the other side.

Because he's been a star at the two football teams that you support? The way he's played this situation suggests to me that he's just angling for an even bigger contract to negate so he's got even more of his riches to spend.

No matter how much charity work you might do or donations you give, no matter how many autographs you sign for the kids, if you are as filthy stinking rich as people like Ronaldo and Messi are (and many many many many many many many many many others) are and you go to these sort of lengths to not pay your fair share of tax, then you are a ****ing disgraceful human being.

He would certainly be less likely to win the ballon d'or in England if he was playing for the sixth best team in the land, that makes sense. Second place minimum is assured for him and Messi though for the next few years regardless though to be honest.

As great as he is, and he is, a 32 year old for 150 million or whatever it would cost, kind of does seem too good to refuse.

By the way on another topic, be interested to see what people think about how an 18 year old kid, no matter how talented, would cope with becoming a world record transfer. Big weight to take onto your shoulders, think he'd be a fool to go for that at this stage.

Don't worry, there is a Norwegian club I support as well. ;) That's probably what's going to happen, Real were scared before of the possibility that he could leave, there were some rumors going on in 2013 I think. Now that he is over 30, maybe they will look at it differently. His heroics at the end of this season will certainly make the club value him more than they would have only three months ago.

Fair enough. I look at them as footballers most of the time. And when looking outside of that, I am not going to ignore all the help they did for the poor all around the world. Maybe I just tend to look at good in people, even when they get ruined and spoiled by all the insane amount of money.

You can mock Man United's most recent league finish all you like, they still managed to have a better season than most and are more likely to have great future success than Liverpool and most of other English clubs as well. As for Ronaldo and Messi, they have simply been that good for the last decade or so. In a couple of years someone will challenge them IMO.

I think Ronaldo's good for 21 to 22 goals next year or more but I wonder about him at this stage of his career in the EPL

I get supporting a Norwegian club if you are Norwegian/live in Norway and given the quality of league (no offence) wanting to follow a bigger side as well, just find it weird supporting two teams like Man Utd and Real Madrid, or any two big sides like tat, doesn't sit well with me, bu that's just me.

I get what you're saying about that, it's obviously good that they do that and absolutely should do that, but when you have been "blessed" to the degree to be able to do something like that as your career, you absolutely should do a lot, or at least give substantial amounts of money to charities and it's pretty much a bare minimum (even people like El Hadji Diouf does lots of charity work and what not). But I do like to give the benefit of the doubt with stuff like that, but when they do that and still try and use creative accountants and whatever else to avoid paying the amount of tax (which no matter how much tax they pay, still leaves them with more money than 99.99% of people will see in their lifetime) just leaves a very sour taste in their mouth. It's pure greed plane and simple, saw an article about Asamoah Gyan about a similar topic and he was moaning about tax laws meaning he doesn't get as much and apparently in China the clubs pay the tax and he just sounds like a greedy ***** who's forgotten his roots (can't imagine that privileged upbringing).

Thank you, I will. 6th eh? That's debatable though, although obviously well placed to challenge financially. The fact that England has arguably 6 (maybe even 7 if Everton and Koeman do particularly wel this window) top sides, doesn't really do them any favours as it's harder to shine against such teams and you obviously have to pay more attention to the league making European success a bit harder.

I do agree Messi and Ronaldo have been that good for at least the majority of the last decade or so but I don't think others are going to be considered until they severely decline. It's more than just how good you are (think Suarez was pretty hard done by not to get in the top three last time round, could make arguments of him being even higher based on some of his stats but his chequered past which had very little if anything to do with footballing ability counted against him).

I think he'd get at least that to be honest. I think he's gonna stay at Madrid though to be honest, with a nice bumper contract offer.

None taken. Just saying I support a team from my country as well. The support towards Man United and Real obviously stands out since they are the big names while the Norwegian teams aren't something to talk about. Maybe you have a favorite team for each of the other big leagues but none of them stands out as your 2nd all time favorite behind Liverpool like Real does for me. My guess is you probably admire Barcelona a lot for their playing style and youth policy but not that much that you regularly support them.

Yes, greed is big among many of these athletes. But in a way they also will never be able to impress some people with all the charity work. No matter how much money the athletes give away, and it is usually an amount that means so much to ordinary people, they will still have a lot for themselves which the critics don't like. They want them to give everything or at least majority of what they have. If I was so rich I'd probably want to have fun and buy everything I ever wanted for myself, but this is just a hypothetical, wishful thinking.

Forwards are heavily favored nowadays in the Ballon d'Or, that's what both Ronaldo and Messi are benefiting from. They are the best at what they do but the work of their teammates and other players playing in different positions is quite underrated.

You know there is nothing that would make him greater than Messi. ;) I want Barcelona to succeed above everything else, whether Leo plays part in all goals or none at all is far less important.

My first thought is mmmbop from Hansen.

He might not have a choice if the right offer comes in. Yes, I know, there is always a choice. Until there isn't. I can't say if he would be a fool to go for it. Tremendous pressure, no doubt about it. Not really sure right now. People can grow up fast. Lot of 18 year olds with 40 year old heads on their shoulders due to how they are brought up and so on. Rambling time. I have no idea.

Been video game free for nearly 2 weeks now. Might be time to load up.

Looks like Chelsea have entered the Morata race. I was having a discussion with a mate about Morata and Diego Costa last week. We brought this on. Jinxed it.

I love this guy. :D Superb impressions. Happy Fathers day to y'all.

Portugal looks like crap against Mexico. Looks like it will be a tie. I wonder if they can even get out of this group. Utter failure! They will have to beat the russians now

That was embarrassing. They take the lead and give it back in the last minutes of the game. Made mexico look great. Now they have to beat Russia otherwise it will be an utter failure

Sky sources saying Cristiano is interested in possibility of a Manchester United reunion.

I feel for Man United fans, they will get their hopes up and probably end up disappointed after a long summer saga. I think even to this day they still sing chants about him. Something to be admired.

    I was reading that earlier.

Oh yeah. We still sing for him. Anderson still gets the odd chant if Fabregas is on the other side. haha Damn, I was actually believing the hype back then. Thought Anderson was going to be special.

The number 7 has been kept warm for Ronaldo. He will restore the glory to that number. Those shirt sales would cover the 400 million (or whatever it is. :p ) Seriously like I said the other day, this is a deal that I have not one hope for. Obviously, I can't speak for all United fans. But if it happened.

Forget Sky. Di Marzio mentioned something like that as well.

I will hate this summer! (referring to transfer window only of course) I just hope progress will be made on some other, solid quality players, because even if Cristiano comes back that wouldn't solve Manchester's problem completely.

True story. Sky's batting average makes mine look spectacular.

You want to have everything done by the time pre season starts. The Ronaldo news kind of feels like something out of WWE. A hot storyline. Makes me think of the clash: should I stay or should I go? hmm, I'll repeat one last time, I believe he will stay. Still, it could have the possiblity of distburing other things. Hard not to.

Thinking back to last season and what United need said they need and what I believe they need. A centre midfield player, striker, full back, cb (done) and a winger. Ivan Perisic speculation is starting to remind me of the Wesley Scneijder speculation. jk, it hasn't been that long. Does feel like it. Other deals being prioritized. Evolution really is a mystery. Trying to understand the values of the modern player compared to days gone by. Yes, I need to deal with it, but I can't wrap my head round things like 50 million for Eric Dier. I suppose I can, in a way. 50 is probably the starting offer. ha.

Then you have to consider departures. I was thinking Shaw would be the English Maldini. Thinking one day they would call Maldini the Italian Shaw. Yeah, I'm clueless to it all.

    Such fun.

I really doubt Ronaldo is going anywhere. He's in the run in for Ballon D'or to match Messis 5 and all he'd want now is stability. He did this last year or the year before for a better contract. I feel he's doing the same again. I hope he stays Madrid and wins the Ballon D'or. Plus there're not many teams he could go to. Manchester United or maybe PSG. Apart from them I don't know.

A different version of Sergio Ramos. Using Man Utd to get a better deal with his current club. tut tut tut. Pay his tax bill as well. They probably have some lavish drinkers and ran up huge amounts in the clubs. Unpaid bar tabs add up. Yeah, he loves United and all that. Loves them enough to get his new deal. I am a cynic. No such thing as loyalty if you have a price. What is your price? :p

    Lewandowski possibly on the move?

He seems to of been around for ages, but he's still only 28. I wonder what fee Bayern would be after (if the rumours are true), if Lukaku is worth £100 Million, it could be astronomical.

Do you know how many years he's got left on his contract. For some reason I think he'll less than 70 million.

There's too much rumours out there. Everyone just wants to get popular. No Ines reliable anymore. Di marzio was decent at one point but he's lost it now.

That was my first thought also, the standard tactic to generate interest and get the current club to hand them a new and improved contract.

Doesn't seem to be the case, though. I'd take him in a heartbeat over Lukaku, that level of striker hardly ever becomes available and if they do, they usually end up in Spain (which he still might do).

And for us boys living in the real world .

Nando's offered me a cheeky portion of spicy rice and a 1/4 chicken as part of my payment. Mickey D's, can you match that? No, **** off to Nando's then.

Oh crap, Nando's didn't even offer me a deal. Now I'm on the breadline. HELP ME!!!!!!!

Mo Salah coming to Liverpool then, should've come a few years back but he's gone and proved himself now, one of only 8 players in Europe's top five leagues to be in double figures for goals and assists.

Yeah do like Barcelona's style and youth policy but other factors (such as them and Real monopolising the money in La Liga) make me less keen on them. Other teams I have a soft spot for, Newcastle now they have Rafa being probably the most prominent, as well as others like Swansea and Bournemouth and teams like that and I guess Huddersfield now because they have Klopp's best mate in charge, but not teams I'm invested enough to show my support. Do find tennis to be different, probably two players I full on support as well as several others who I always like to see do well that you could consider like a "second team" sort of thing. But tennis does seem different, to me anyway.

I think it would be hard with charity work, and especially, simply donations as they have so much, because first of all with any sense of a social conscience you should do that if you earn that kind of money and more poignanatly, if you do that and then make every effort with offshore accounting and everything else, to desperately avoid paying your share of tax, it just looks really bad so any good credit you might build with the rest, really tarnishes your image in that sense for me, nobody's saying don't enjoy the money as you still would have plenty left over.

Yeah agreed, although I think it has pretty much always been the case, and for any footballing award that forwards and attacking players do, as it's so much more eye-catching.
