Looks like Tottenham are going to sign Dybala instead, while they are also favorites to sign Coutinho on a one season loan.

Still waiting for some more info on Fernandes or Eriksen... :( Last days of the transfer window are annoying. :cautious:

Can't help thinking that United's incoming business is done.. Taking it in phases sort of thing. Damn, now I'm comparing United to Marvel.

Wow, that would be the top 3 guaranteed before the season starts then (City, Liverpool, Spurs). Man Utd and Arsenal battling for 4th could still be interesting though, maybe someone like Everton/Leicester/Wolves making a challenge if things go right for them.

I think 5th to 7th is realistic, so Europa League.

Just shows the damage from the ban. Coutinho was open to Chelsea, Dybala would of been an option, Pepe said Chelsea were the only English club he wanted to play for, could of made a run at Fernandes instead of having to sign Kovacic etc..

Playing the kids now instead could be great long term, but it’s highly likely to lead to a position closer to mid table than the top.

Optimistic as ever I see, seems a similar perspective to when you guys won the league a few years back.

If you can finish 5th you can finish 4th I think, I think it's a three horse race for sure. Playing the kids can work wonders if they are good kids, you're good enough your old enough etc. Klopp and Guardiola have shown themselves perfectly willing to play them and in big games. Trent Alexander Arnold is now arguably the best right back in Europe. Chelsea have some good young players too how many youth cups have you guys won of late. Difference is you have Lampard in charge, but I think your current squad is better than Arsenal's still, and probably Man Utd, who have Solksjear who has only shown himself as a poor manager so far with his time in England. Lampard had one fairly good season at Derby but is obviously massively inexperienced. Manager-wise logic says that Arsenal should get it but I think they have the worst squad I think it's very much a three horse race. I hope it's Arsenal but I reckon your guys and Man Utd will probably be 4th and 5th and reckon it could hinge on if Man Utd make any late signings or if Lampard proves he is a good manager and can take it or unless Solksjear gets sacked early and a good manager gets brought in.

Don't see anyone breaking the top six unless Chelsea or Man Utd spectacularly capitulate with their inexperienced managers the gap is still too big I suspect.

Top three seems assured regardless of signings for Spurs, settled better squad, better manager. Think they'll stay in touch with the top two a bit better next season too, don't see them falling away quite so much but definitely see them in third, watching the Charity Shield it looks like Liverpool and City a level above or two should be fascinating again, can't wait!

Poor form that, would be suicidal for Palace to sell him now. They basically don't win without him I seem to remember seeing. Worth far more to Palace than to any team who'd sign him.

Having said that I'd take him, would be a good backup option for the front three. Surely they wouldn't be that stupid, no time to get a suitable replacement now surely?

Think I have to push it a bit since the fellow United fans in here are practically in a coma.

Don Conte looks to be getting his man.
Seriously though, what are your expectations this season honestly? You confident?

That was quick. Think it's a good opportunity for you to get back in the top four to be honest. If you had decent manager in I'd have them as big favorites to get top 4. Still think there's a reasonable chance of it.

Looks like I already answered this one a bit in one of my earlier one-liner rants.

If the game was five-a-side, and we used our keeper and defenders then I'd be more confident than I have been for a while. Sorting defence out was top priority but it looks like other priorities have been abandoned. That's why I mentioned the phase thing in the other post. Kinda feels like a wait and see how the defence does before we let you sign a midfielder. That is my best impression of Ed Woodward. :/ They obviously know something I don't.

The hopeful fan in me now has to support McTominay. Let us see if he can step into those Pro Evo cover boots. Perhaps we will get something out of Fred. I go along with those not impressed with Matic. Can't say it was a bad transfer window. I'm not all that familiar with James but like I said abut the defence. Keep some clean sheets again.

I'd say I am still optimistic that top 4 can be possible this season. A lot of wait and see about it. Can't wait though. Still excited as ever.

Yeah the young players look good. Chelsea fans have been craving it for years. Mason Mount looks a great player, Pulisic has been way more impressive than I expected. Just a shame Hudson-Odoi, Loftus-Cheek and James look like missing a lot of time/the entire season for one of them.

I think it’s going to be an inconsistent season, I imagine we’ll put in performances that nobody expects against strong teams in a few games, but have poor losses against too many weaker teams. That’s to be expected with a very young side and inexperienced manager.

Chelsea were around 6th for a lot of last season, then managed to nip into 3rd at the end when every team limped over the line. I can’t remember what the stats were in the end. Something like 6 points in the last 20 games combined from Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs. Spurs were dropping points to West Ham, Bournemouth and a few others. Man Utd losing to Cardiff, hammered 4-0 by Everton, Huddersfield etc.. Arsenal were every bit as bad too. It’s hard to imagine them all capitulating down the closing stretch again, so I’d say the 5-7th range is probably the most likely outcome. I’d be ok with that though if there are signs of growth for the young players, the rewards from this season will come 2-3 years down the line hopefully.

I see a lot of Chelsea players in the football manager youngsters with great potential. One of them with especially high rating. See if you can guess who it is.

United still linked with Mandzukic today. Could see that happening since Lukaku is going. If not then that does mean more time for Greenwood, on paper at least. Can always see Martial being 9, then we're stuck with things like Mata playing rw. The king speed that he is. :( Of course, maybe it is time for Chong to unleash his football manager potential. Only time will tell.

I would guess it was Pulisic? He has the bigger reputation, touted as a wonder kid at one time or another. I’ve seen the American media refer to him as Captain America. So he seems to have a bit more of a brand behind him.

Yeah I wouldn’t be comfortable with Rashford and Martial as the top 2 strikers, it’s doable but not ideal. The “Dybala Debacle” probably cost them, they had to go for it but that’s time they aren’t going to get back.

I see Arsenal have signed David Luiz for £8 Million. So that means Christensen and.. Tomori as the centre back pairing? Maybe you’ll be ok with Martial on Sunday afterall :p

I'm looking at the deadline day icon on sky sports. Tierney is on it looking lively, Lukaku is loving the chance to hook up with his greatest admirer, Don Antonio. Then we have Coutinho with this sad expression. It's quite comical.

Pulisic has the monster ratings for sure. You already mentioned who I'm thinking of in your previous post. Pretty sure that Hudson-Odoi just eclipses Pulisic. It's very close anyway.

Interesting! With them both being on the same team, it should be a good comparison over the next few years. That’s if Hudson-Odoi gets past the ruptured achilles.

To update my last post, Tomori now seems to be going on loan to Everton. So our only centre backs are Christensen, Zouma and Rudiger whenever he gets back from the knee injury. Hopefully there’s a lot of goals in the front 4 because the back 4 is looking shaky as hell

It was honestly the worst race for top four that I can remember was truly shocking. I do get the feeling it'll be a fairly low bar to get top 4 this season too Chelsea and Man Utd with rookie managers (Man Utd the early signs are that he is simply a poor manager) Arsenal probably the best manager of the three certainly most proven, but their defence is appalling but the attack looks good. Could be any of the three potentially. But I don't think 7th or below are good enough still to compete with them so I think it is one of those 3.

To be part of that race was a little bit embarrassing. Fortunately Spurs and Man Utd got most of the attention (Spurs doing well in the Champions League at the time, Man Utd being the team 94% of people support). Chelsea and Arsenal flew under the radar a bit, but yes, nobody really covered themselves in glory.

I agree that it could well be a low bar again this season, it’s just going to come down to whoever can string more results together and be more consistent than the rest. I still wouldn’t rule out someone like Everton, Leicester or Wolves personally. Things would have to go right for them, but others have done it in the past (Newcastle, Everton, Spurs when they were average, Leicester, Burnley were close to top 4 for a while a few years back when the competition was stronger).

I hope there’s a couple of sides making a push and shaking things up a bit. Interesting is always good by me!

You should know by November.

De Gea will scuff one in when he comes up for a corner in the 94th minute of the 3rd round Carabao Cup tie against Port Vale.

United will go on to lose on penalties, but hey, first goal of the season is worth celebrating, right?

Ole doing his version of the Wyclef Jean song. I'll be gone by November, I'll be gone by November. :p

I guess there is a bit of wait and see with it all. Maguire was 80m a couple of months ago, almost like they planned to leave it so late as their blockbuster signing in the last week. Just get worried that he hasn't been in that long and real big game to start off with. Of course, could always work the other way. Could have a dream start. I'm ready for it. :happydevil:

Want to see James on and being fouled a lot.

Mr. Neville was feeling worried about Norwich at half time. 4-1 is not so bad all things considered. Looked like Liverpool took their foot off the gas. But still. 4-1 is 4-1, ya know. Was thinking 7 or 8 for moment. I hope Alisson is ok.

Yes, it was a bit of a hammering.

Still, 4-1 was a better result than the one Barcelona got at Anfield.

Disappointed to find out he didn’t have a Welsh accent.
James will be interviewed tomorrow after he does the work against Chelsea. I thought it was funny when I looked at sky sports and they had the big signing article. Jose has joined the pundit team. He doesn't want that China money, he knows he ain't done yet. Interesting to hear what he says tomorrow. :p

Abraham, Pulisic, Mount and old man Pedro gonna get ya. Unfortunately Christensen and Zouma will probably let about 7 in at the other end. 7-4 is my prediction :p

For the League? I’ll go with Man City. There’s nothing between them and Liverpool, it’s a coin flip really. City know how to do it though, that counts for something. Bit like the Champions League, Liverpool know how to do it and City find ways to blow it. That’s all I got.

Big time finish from Spurs against Villa. 3-1. Quite common with the spuds. Late double from Kane after being 0-1 since the 10th minute. Finally, they broke the Villa resistance in the 75th minute with Ndombele goal. Good start.

Haven't felt this disinterested at the start of the Premier League in forever. Maybe it's the feeling of inevitability that City will win again, maybe it's the feeling of us not being a factor again, or maybe it's just this unbearable heat. I won't be begging for summer season to arrive anytime soon.
