Ffs Atletico. Beating Liverpool in both legs and then losing to Leipzig? :X3::X3:

First time CL finalist guaranteed with Leipzig and PSG going head to head in a few days...

Whenever Atletico de Simeone's team loses it is good news.
Now it is PSG's turn to become the first French team to reach the Champions League final since Monaco did so in 2004.
In addition, it would be the first time in its 50 years of foundation that the Parisian club achieved that milestone.
Only Olympique de Marseille has been crowned the only French team to be champion of the most important club tournament in Europe.
Neymar's PSG is just two wins away from repeating it and I think they have a great opportunity to do so.
:D

It was pretty obvious that Chelsea were out of their depth at this stage of their development. It was also evident that Bayern are seriously good.

I had them down to beat Barcelona without breaking a sweat, but I didn’t expect it to be a total massacre.

Wouldn't want them to go all the way though. They were the most annoying bunch back in 2013. With City PSG and Leipzig there aren't so many fans to get you mad in the first place lol.

Yeah it would be good for PSG, City or Leipzig to win, I think that's what all neutrals are hoping for.

Would be interesting to see how Leipzig go against Bayern. I believe they drew both games in the Bundesliga? Leipzig are a fantastic side, they just didn't have the consistency to challenge Bayern over a full season. In a one off game they can more than hold their own.

City could give Bayern a good game too. They've got a similar side to Bayern, but they've also got the Premier League speed and physicality that could cause them a few problems.

8-2 :-D

Is barca bad or is Bayern good?
Both. Chelsea and Barcelona weren't anywhere close to being good enough (Chelsea a young team making their way, Barcelona old and should of started their rebuild years ago).

I expected Bayern to win by a similar score line to the Chelsea game last weekend, which was 4-1. The fact Bayern doubled that this evening is a bit of a shocker.

What a result. Makes chelsea defeat more bearable now lol
Especially when you consider there was no Pulisic, Pedro, Willian, Alonso, Azpilicueta, Jorginho.. 6 youth team players on the bench and Chelsea still didn't have enough fit players to fill the bench, definitely!

Having played Liverpool a few weeks ago, and Bayern last weekend. I think it's fair to say they're the two best sides on the planet at the moment, it's a shame we don't get to see them play in the Champions League this year. What a game that would be.

Demolition was always a possibility given that Germans don't stop when they are flying high. Their unrivaled arrogance is back just like the one they had under Heynckes a few years ago. It's going to be a very difficult task but I am still hopeful that Pep or Neymar can "avenge us" and give them a cold shower they badly deserve.

I said before the game that I wouldn't mind a loss, but a bad attitude. Yet it happened again, which reflects in quite an uncomfortable scoreline. I don't expect and I don't even want the guys to press high and scoring at all costs in the last minute when leading by five but it's inexcusable when you rarely show aggression, when you are not willing to correct mistakes during the match, from one week to the next and so on, simply accepting them in this amount as a normal part of the performance. It's been a season to forget even before tonight. But if this doesn't make the alarm bells ring then we are in serious long term trouble.

Barca were totally riped apart tonight. In the sports press even weeks ago there was talk Barca need to rebuild and that was glaringly obvious tonight. The Barca defense was useless as the Bayern players all match long were given the space to run at the Barca defense and then cross the ball in for the unmarked Bayern players.

Never in my wildest dreams. Yet here we are. Wowzers. I did fancy Bayern but obviously not like this.

You're from my time, no? Out of the blue for the first time in maybe 15 years I recalled the Promatch football trading cards. Do you remember these and did you play? Seems they were issued from 1996-1999 in 4 series.

I’ll catch up with the highlights later, did they play the “Can Can" song every time Bayern scored?

When we played them in Germany at the weekend, they played it after every goal. If doing the Can Can dance when you've gone 7-1 up against a young side with half their starting eleven injured/suspended doesn't put you off a side, I don't know what will!

I have my fingers crossed for the other 4 sides left in the tournament, it would be nice to see a new winner, see Bayern get taken down a peg or two, plus it's going to take something special to stop them.. All of which i'm in favour of.

I told you!
Barça has been a poor team away from Spain for a long time.
The players on that team are too old to compete outside of La Liga.

Bayern should have won even more comfortably.
PSG vs Bayern Munich is the final of the UCL 2019/2020.
Book it!

8 goals yet should have won even more comfortably. That right there is one of the things I am talking about. But no problem. When someone properly challenges them, we'll see how smooth they really are...

I think Can Can is their goal song at home games and it was more noticeable in empty stands when they played Chelsea. Though I didn't watch that one as Barcelona were playing Napoli at the same time.

It's just their general demeanor that is off putting. Whining about small irrelevant ref decisions when the result is more than safe and still discussing the small tactics among themselves after scoring as many goals in one match as some other teams do in a month... I get perfectionism but come on. Then again I might be reading too much into it right now since we were just on the receiving end of a beatdown, who knows. But the second things stop going their way it's going to be ugly. Back when Madrid beat them 0-4 in Munich when Bayern were defending champions, they handled it so poorly throughout the match. I couldn't help but chuckle a bit, even though Real were winning.

I am all for first time winner too. Other than Chelsea we haven't seen one in over 20 years. And even though all the remaining teams (not expecting much from Lyon) spent a fortune just to put themselves on the map I can admire the football they are all playing. They didn't stumble into the semifinals on accident at all. But I would have preferred if hard working Atletico or this season's fairytale Atalanta were still there...

I don't think I played with these trading cards. I used to get the sticker album every season back in the 90s. People at school making up their own trading rules. ''This sticker is worth 10 stickers.'' Yeah, right. Opening up a packet and getting the same player for the fifth time was annoying.

Ah yeh - the Merlin's Premier League collections. I never did fill a book.

That's a fair point, the empty stadium probably did make the goal song more pronounced. Maybe it's an English/American thing, but running up the score against a weaker opponent and going crazy celebrating is considered unsporting/showing a lack of class. I've no problem with them still playing hard and keeping themselves sharp for tougher tests to come, pat yourself on the back after a nice build up and sweet finish? By all means! But yeah, stupid songs and dancing live they've just won the tournament when the game was over 6 months ago after the first leg? Bit strange.

Well i'm sure you won't have long to wait for Bayern to get what's coming to them! As you said about the Madrid game, the Champions League has a habit of coming back to bite you. If they don't get taken out this year, you can guarantee there will be someone next season who'll get you. You only have to look at what happened to Liverpool, the defending Champions, this year. Seems to happen every time.

Yeah Atalanta were the team I was backing, as a neutral for this mini tournament. I'll probably have to go with City now, for the simple fact I think they probably have the best chance at stopping Bayern. Not sure their defence is strong enough, but they move the ball quickly and have a bit of Premier League physicality to them. It has the potential to be an interesting match up, I think.

Wow, I had City to go all the way.

Well played, Lyon. (y)
At least PSG is still in the running so they can take out Bayern if they get passed the Red Bull Energy Drinks and Bayern get passed the king of the jungles. I foresee a Bull vs Lion final though. Mess with the bull, you get the horns. Hard to toot your own horn here.

all the way you mean beating all remaining teams including bayern?.. odds were on lyon (beating city after 90min) prior today' match 11/1 hah
Yeah, when they defeated Real away, I decided that it was there year. Oops Yeah, Bayern have looked great all the way and I guess I underestimated them. Same way I did with Lyon. I'll learn some day. Maybe. I learned the last 500 times. :p

For the first time since 2007, there is no La Liga team in the CL last four.
For the first time since 1996, there is no La Liga or Premier League team in the CL last four.
And for the first time since 1991, there is no La Liga, Premier League or Serie A team in the CL last four.

These Champions League semis ended up getting filled with French and Germans. Thanks a lot for this and so many other things, coronavirus. :cautious:

Should I expect Manchester to cheer me up in the Europa League at least? Are the United fans confident? Remember what Sevilla did last time you faced them...

Doubt it. This team has given me very few reasons to trust them. The one time I started to, the Anfield fiasco happened. It's going to take a while before we are in state of calmness and comfort again. Hopefully I will still have as much energy and not become officially old by then.

I was thinking more like Real Madrid would drop a few points. They weren't as solid as they were after the break against lower quality teams. They were definitely better than Barcelona this year, especially when facing each other, but I noticed they would often just randomly drop points to give Barcelona the lead back in the table. It kept occurring until coronavirus.
